Advice on Creative Fitness Door Gym for pullups?

Hi There!
I'm hoping you experts will have some good advice, as you always do...
I think this may have been addressed, but, I think I need some advice on
some specifics that I cannot figure out.

I know we're going to have some form of pullups we're going to have to do,
and I've been looking at the Creative Fitness Door Gym.
Here is a link to the company's website: http://www.doorgym.net/
The base price is $45.95 + $15 s/h for the base model.
There's also the Deluxe model with Ab loops and broadreach bar for
92.95 + $18 s/h.

I am leaning toward the base model, since that's cheaper, but, do you think I will
need the other things in the deluxe model to do STS?

My other question is about the hand position on this Door Gym on the base model.
Isn't a regular pullup where your palms would be positioned forward(like a cat climbing
a wall?). The position on the Door Gym has your palms gripping some handles, so your
palms are facing each other. (Like you are praying, but hands further apart). Boy, this is hard to describe!!
Anyway will the hand position on the Door Gym be wrong compared to the regular
pullup? Does it matter? I think the muscles are used somewhat differently in the different hand positions and might not work muscle intended to be worked?

So, 1) which one would you buy (basic, or deluxe model) and why; and 2) are hand positions important for this exercise?

Thank you so much for your opinions. I REALLY appreciate it!! :)

linda

p.s. I did find a cheaper website to buy the base model for $39.95 + $2.95 s/h.
It's here: http://www.karatedepot.com/tr-ex-25.html

I've never used a pullup bar but that one looks pretty good.

yeah, it does look pretty good. After looking at the positive reviews on the sites and looking at the fact you don't have to mount it permanently(and that's it's quick to mount/remove) makes me want to spend a little $$$.

If you do pullups, what do you use? :)
thx again,
linda

I looked at similar door systems but unfortunately none would fit with the door in my workout room due to clearance & frame issues. I went with a inexpensive standard bar that installs brackets in the door frame. It worked great and got me through a P90X rotation with no problems.

Looking at the picture, it appears you could still hold the bar in a forward pull-up or underhand chin-up position just inside the handles that protrude out. The handles just give you another option of hand placement that would recruit muscles in a different way.

Oh yes, you are right(I should do my homework better!). Looks like there is a place for hands for narrow grip and wide grip in addition to palms facing in :)

If anyone here has a Door Gym please do tell how you like it. I am sure I will be purchasing this one. No one had to enable me either :)

thanks again,

Hi Linda,

I am doing P90X and need a door pullup bar. My door is not a standard door.

Do you think the one with brackets would work for me?

I am desperate for a way to do pullups since P90X and STS both use them.

If you have a link for them, please let me know.

Hi Amy:
Yikes, you're asking me? :)
I haven't purchased anything yet, but both these websites look like they are both good companies.
Creative Fitness makes the Door Gym, and they have higher prices, and Karate Depot sells a variety of fitness stuff including MMR stuff(and PINK boxing gloves! :) ), Creative Fitness, Everlast brands, etc.

Here's the info I'll post again for you with links from my original post:

The base price is $45.95 + $15 s/h for the base model.
There's also the Deluxe model with Ab loops and broadreach bar for
92.95 + $18 s/h. They have some extension bar that might possibly work in your non-standard doorway (???)

I did find a cheaper website (Karate Depot) to buy the base model for $39.95 + $2.95 s/h.
It's here: http://www.karatedepot.com/tr-ex-25.html They also have the extension bars available.

It seems like I will buy mine from Karate Depot because with the combined shipping of only $2.95 and product, it is a better deal money-wise :)

Planning to buy extra equipment for STS is a bit of a cash outlay for me, so I'm trying to be cheap!
:)

If you get the Door Gym and try it for P90x, could you report back what you think?

Have fun!

This looks great - but I'd be interested to see if anyone else has used it as well... is it sturdy enough? Would be cheaper than purchasing the pullup tower and would clearly not take up any room..
