Adjustable weights?

Howdy y'all,

I asked this about a year ago and life just took control. What is the name of the adjustable weights? Not the kind where you have to add and subtract plates, but kind of an all-in-one thing? Now that we live in an apartment, I don't have room for free weights. I want to add Cathe back into my life and although the apt gym has a great set-up, I prefer to workout with Cathe in my home.

Thanks!
Pam

The bowflex selecttech weights?
I purchased them for my youngest son for his college apartment, and a set for my oldest when he moved into his first home.
They love them. No issues with them.:)
I tried them with a few of my home workouts. They are bulky, but I did not find them awkward.

That's exactly what I'm talking about. I've Googled it and there are quite a few options out there. I guess I need to hear reviews on as many as possible.

Thanks for your input!
Pam

I've had my original Bowflex Selecttech for a few years (mine only go up to 20 lbs). I love them, but find the handle uncomfortable at higher weights, so I always wear lifting gloves. I also prefer to use a regular set at lighter weights 5, 8 lbs, and mostly use them at 10-20 range. I use them daily. HTH!

I own the select techs that go up to 50 pounds and I love them. However, they are not suitable for use with most workout DVDs, even many of Cathe's. They are not quick to adjust the poundage. It isn't difficult to do, but it takes more time than most workout DVDs give you. So I have regular dumbbells ranging from 3 to 20 pounds and only use my select techs for over 20 pounds (and for 17.5 pounds). BTW--that is another thing I love about the select techs--how I can do 17.5 and 22.5 pounds.

However, if you are not using them with workout DVDs and you are space constrained--they are perfect.

I would suggest going to Sports Authority or Dicks Sporting Goods. They usually have display models you can try out. I found most of the ones that went up to 50+ lbs to be pretty bulky.

I forgot to mention that I found the Nautilus Universal adjustable weights to be the most cost effective and comfortable. I nearly bought those but went with plate weights instead. It was super easy to change the weights too...just a turn of a knob.

We have Power Blocks and love them. They get a real beating because both my DH and I use them, but they still look and feel like new after 6 years of hard use.
