Aching back & KPC?!

Cathlete
Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong??:-( My lower back just kills me the day after I do KPC. It doesn't bother me after I do BC, LM or KM.

Where in your lower back? Equal on both sides of your spine? Do you do the entire core segment when you do KPC? How many times have you experienced this with KPC? (Are you new to the workout?)

:)
This probably won't answer any questions BUT I did KPC for the first time last week I think and the next day I had major pain, mostly on one side of my back. The next day it was gone but that first day I could feel the muscles aching like never before. Personally I think it was when I did the "hammer move"~ don't think I was careful enough with my form and might have jerked too hard and pulled a muscle.
Again, not an answer but just a consolation perhaps!

If I'm not careful with side kicks, my low back kills me after KP&C. I was in pain for about a week after doing this workout the first time I got it. Now I keep my side kicks low and have no problems with it.

Do you all keep your back straight during the low body moves like the different squat positions/kick positions? I have done KPC alot and never experienced this. I always get DOMS inbetween my thighs the next day...never back.

Charlotte~~

Hi Amy~
The pain is dead center of the small of my back. Yep, I do the core segment every time and experience the pain EVERY time. I've done the w/o 10 times so I'm pretty new to it. I'm hoping it's my form & it will improve as I keep doing it and my back will stop aching! ;-)

Kelly~
Thanks for the consolation! :) It's nice to hear that it isn't just me, but sorry that you get pain, too. :-( I'm hoping it's my form and that I can work on getting it right because I really like this w/o.

Hi Debbie~
I'm wondering if I'm doing the rear kicks wrong. I think I'll try keeping my kicks lower like you do and see if it helps. I always try to keep up with Cathe--silly me!:p

Charlotte~
Hmmmmm....my legs don't hurt too bad after--not like after Low Max!!! I think I'll have my husband watch and tell me if my back position is correct during all my kicks & LB moves. Thanks! :)

You could be overextending on your kicks (kicking higher than your body is ready for yet) or not holding your core firm when doing twisting moves (cross body punches, and in fact most punches). Try kicking a bit lower for a while, and bracing your core whenever you punch or kick.

Hi Kathryn~
I had my husband watch me last night while doing the rear leg kicks and he said I was kicking way too high and leaning way over. A friend of his who does martial arts told him not to kick higher than your knee. My back is much better this morning so I'm going to try all the kicks lower AND really concentrate on those "hammer" punches(?) I can't remember what they are called, in BC I think Cathe calles them "ice breakers"--not sure. ;-)

Thanks for the advice! :)

Pussycat,

Are you stretching your core really good after KP&C? I recall a question that was asked of Cathe a couple of years ago after KP&C came out regarding back pain. She stressed the importance of stretching afterwards. If I don't stretch my sides and my back and abs after doing ANY kickboxing...I pay for it later.

Your body will become more conditioned as you continue to do the workout but stretching is so important!

Hi Candi~
Oh yeah....I love my stretching. :) But I think I might have it figured out--finally. I did KPC on Mon and really concentrated HARD on my core and kept my kicks (especially the rear kicks) lower and didn't have any pain! :D I did KM this morning and so far no pain in my lower back, but holy moley those legs drill are deceiving!!!! Yowza!
Thanks for the advice. :)

I want to thank everyone for helping me with this problem. I think I've got it figured out.
You all are great!!!!:) :)
