I hurt my achilles about a year ago. I have started back running 5 weeks ago. It hurts during warm up but after that it does not really hurt. Sometimes when I sit for a little while when I stand up and walk it is a little stiff. What should I do, should I not run or not run as much or what? O, I forgot to say I run about 3-4 miles 6 days a week. Please Help!!!!!

Yrs ago I started running and got tendonitis in my ankle. Just like you it didn't hurt while I ran at all. Just at the beginning. But, more and more it started to hurt when I wasn't running. I just refused to stop till one day when it swelled up twice it's size and I was forced to stop. I was icing it and taking Motrin, but I didn't rest it and that was a mistake. Now, that same ankle always whispers to me when I do impact.

This a.m. (what a coincidence) I decided to start running again, only I plan to do it no more than twice per week. I bought an ankle brace and DH (he's a sports med. MD) told me to do ankle strengthening exercises and to be sure to stretch out a lot. So, I ran this a.m. and now my ankle is talking out loud. Not hurting, but I know it's there. I hope the exercises will keep me from always having to baby this ankle. Fingers crossed...

EDIT: OOPS, I didn't realize that this was on the 'Ask Cathe' forum. Sorry if I'm butting in.
