Accu-measure body fat caliper

I am working on the methods in the book BFFM and I bought the caliper to measure my body fat. Each week I measure with everything being the same and I have lost lbs and my clothes are looser but the caliper hasn't changed. Am I doing something wrong or should I invest in a more accurate tool to measure body fat ie. the Tania scale? I noticed on the Accu-measure it seems as though it won't show small percentage changes which is what happens when you loose only a lb or two a week. I have been measuring for 4 weeks. Any thoughts out there? Thanks Vicky

Hi Vicky,

I would like this question answered too. How precise does the measuring device need to be? 0.5% increments? .01% increments

Vicky,

How many sites are you measuring? If you are just going by the iliac, which is what is in the directions for the calipers themselves...then I can see why your measurement stays the same. My iliac measuremnt is very slow to change. I find doing four sites best: tricep, suprailliac, umbilicus, and thigh. I go to the Body For Life website and use their calculator...inputing these 4 measurements.
Here's the link to the bodyfat calc:

I have the regular accu-measure and the digital one. The digital tels how to measure three sites and seems to show changes quickly. I know when I have eaten poorly for awhile and it definitely shows on the caliper. I never saw changes using the regular one. I kept thinking maybe I did not know what I was doing. I wondered if it couldn't go to as low of a bodyfat that I usually am at.
