I just finished doing AK (with Kimberly Spreen) and it was SUPER-DOOPER fun!! I didn't think it would be better than Kickbox Bootcamp but it was! Oh, and the music was PERFECT! I love love love the combat intervals with the bar! I feel like I could do them all day!
Thought I'd share.:)

Argh. I. Will. Not. Be. Enabled.

I'm trying to hold out for the CIAs to end up at DDD or somewhere else more reasonably priced.

What size body bar did you use??

Hey Marie! I only have a 12 lb body bar and it just about KILLED me in KB Bootcamp. For AK, I just used my barbell (without the weights of course;-) ). I'm thinking I'll have to order something a little lighter. She suggest not using anything over 9 lbs for AK, if that helps at all.

Is this a circuit workout, a cardio workout, or both? How would you compare the intensity level with Cathe?

It's basically 2 workouts. One is kickboxing, the other is Combat drills (with the bar). There are 3 or 4 premixes where they are combined so I would consider the combination more of a circuit since you're using a weight. It's not a circuit like Cathe's though and I wouldn't feel weird doing a weight workout the next day (just not a shoulder workout).
As far as a comparison, it's easier than Cathe but it's so much fun. I did about 60+ minutes and burned a little over 500 calories (but I'm taller than you). Maybe someone else will chime in (since I've never done the premixes and I've only done the workout once).

Consider me enabled. :+ I just ordered it. I haven't gotten any new workouts in ages & I checked this out on Collage, it does look like lots of fun. Also looks like a good workout for my core day. Thanks for the tip Carolyn! :)

I almost ordered this yesterday. The clip reminds me alot of a kickboxing class I used to take at the gym.

Carolyn, is it a weighted body bar that she's using or just a stick?

I am seriously going to be poor if I keep getting on this beard!! I just got my BBC yesterday, it's ok...but I am ordering this workout today! It sounds great...ahhhhhhhhhhhhh

Me too! Can't wait!

I have a 16lb & 24lb Body Bar, may be too heavy. My barbell without weights is 13lbs though. That might work.

Oops! Carolyn says above that Kimberley recommends nothing over 9 lbs. Maybe I can use my bar without weights. It's only 5. It's a start anyway.

That's ok Melissa.:) I used my 12 lb bar with her other KB workout and it was a little to heavy to get full range of motion for the blocks (at least for me). You may want to try your heavy bar but have your barbell bar handy just in case. I think that an 8 lbs would be perfect but I'm just guessing. I'll be ordering a few new body bars soon so I'll know better then.

That's exactly what I did today Shelley. It worked well to get the feel of the workout but you'll probably need to go up in weight fairly soon.:)

I just did this one the other day as well. Since I'd done some upper body the day before, and my only Body Bar is 9# (heavy for these moves), I used a dowel while wearing 2# weighted gloves. It worked just fine (and I didn't have to worry about clocking myself in the shins, or hitting the TV, with a 9# bar!).

I did the circuit premix(which they call 'interval,' but I don't consider it to be one), which is the same length as the regular workout, but alternating kickboxing and the bar work (I'd done the regular workout previously). I think it's my favorite way of doing this workout.

Kimberly is definitely one of my favorite instructors. While I was working out, I was thinking, now THIS is someone I would like to workout with in person. I love the way she links moves together so smoothly, and builds up a combo, then eases out of it.

I'd love to see Kimberly do a circuit workout alternating kickboxing and medicine ball work. She has a couple of med ball workouts that I like, but would like better combined with kickboxing.

>Ordered it! Can't wait to get it. I'll pick up a body bar
>on the weekend. Carolyn, what weight would you recommend?

Not Carolyn (but I'll pretend to be!), but I'd say that even a light bar works well, if you put the emphasis on the 'striking' move. I think it's safer (for shins and furniture! but also maybe for shoulders and elbows, because these are very different moves from what most people are used to)to start out light (maybe like I did, with a dowel and hand weights) until you get the moves down, then work up from there.

I was also thinking something in the range of 6-8 pounds. And working on ROM and 'snap' in the moved (like you're forceably trying to block someone or hit them, and not just putting the bar in the way of their hits and kicks. Think Jett Li!)

Super fun with a great ab workout throughout and at the end! This will be a regular in my video collection. I use a 9 lb body bar and it smokes my shoulders.
