Abs Question

Hello Cathe,
Long time Cathe fan. Thank you for keeping things fresh & making working out fun! My question is, using Cardio & Weights as an example, when working the abs & you are extending your arms & legs at the same time, I can not keep the small of my back flat on the floor. I have this problem when doing various ab routines. Since I do experience some back pain when my legs are at a lower angle, I modify by extending my legs more at a low "V". I can also keep my back flat that way. OK, the question, am I still getting the maximum benefit here or should I very slowing try to work my way down to where you are over time.

Thanks for your time.

not Cathe here (obviously!) but it sounds like you may need to work on strengthening your lower back muscles or possibly on flexibility in that area. It's amazing how a tightness in hamstrings and other muscle groups can affect your ability to perform a particular exercise!! Just some thoughts.:)

Definitely not Cathe, but Andrea I have the same problem and IMHO I don't think it's b/c you're not performing the exercise correctly it may the structure of your body--genetically speaking here--when I stand against a wall my back does not touch the wall. I can actually put my hand and part of my wrist can go between my back and the wall. The only logically reason I can think of is the fact that I have such a deep curvature in my back/spine and my butt is big. You may want to place a pillow under your back. Just a suggestion. HTH.

Hello Haydee,
I also can slide my arm behind my waist against a wall. I may try the pillow suggestion. I just want to make sure that I'm getting the most out of the effort.

Thank you!
