Ab Ripper X?

I'm always on the lookout for an ab workout that will leave me totally wiped, and it appears that this could be it. Thoughts on this? How does it compare to traditional Cathe ab routines, or Core Max? Is it worth $30 (or is there an alternate place to purchase this, rather than the beachbody site?)?

Thanks!

I hate to hijack the thread since I don't have an answer for you but how in the world do you purchase one p90x work out separately??? I have looked and looked and LOOKED on the beachbody site and can not for the life of me find where you would do this!?!? PLEASE HELP!!!!:+

Here you go! I found this by accident in a P90X thread on this forum a while back...

I like this one. I've been doing it twice a week along with an additional third ab workout using one of Cathe's Core Max segments. I get good results with AbRipperX and it goes by so fast. It's tacked on to the end of all of the strength DVDs (don't know about the cardio ones) so you don't necessarily have to buy it separately. All of the upper body P90X DVDs are great too.

I think it's an excellent ab routine but not at all fun to do. It has 11 exercises, each w/25 reps, is about 20 min long and doesn't use equipment. There's a lot of hip flexor work at the beginning. I suggest you buy one of the other P90X weight workouts, (I recommend Shoulders & Arms) because all of the weight workouts also have Ab Ripper X on them, so you get more bang for your buck.

HTH!:)

If you have any hip flexor issues -- I do -- it is not the best. I had much better results for my abs from pilates and pilates with added weights. Mari

I didn't like it at all. In fact I cut it out of my p90x rotation completely and put in Cathe instead. It hurt my neck and I didn't enjoy the routine at all, and I usually like doing ab work.

I 100% agree. Also, IMO, some of the jerky fast moves of Ab Ripper X could possibly hurt someone who has any kind of back or neck issues so you have to be careful. That being said, yes, it is a great ab workout.

ABX is a pretty good and tough ab routine. I think it compares well to Cathe's Core Max in intensity level and effectiveness.

It's the only P90X DVD I have, and I bought if off the Ya Ya Swap for about $10.

It works well (but for many of us doing a rotation on another board, it often ended up being "Ab Skipper", LOL. I think the core results I got were as much from the other workouts as from this one.) After a couple of weeks, I started adding a weighted medecine ball to many of the moves (not much, just 2-3#, for variety) and/or doing the workout while seated on my rebounder (for a bit of a stability challenge that recruits the core more).

YOu will feel it in the hip flexors in the beginning, especially the first 2 or 3 exercises.

If you decide to buy it, DON'T buy it separately. It's included on each of the resistance workouts, so for the same price, you could get "Ab Rippr X" AND "Shoulders and Arms," for example.

Thanks for all of the tips everyone! And for the heads up about it being on all of the other workouts - I would have been sincerely bummed if I bought it alone, when I could have gotten Shoulders & Arms (which everyone seems to rave about) as well! I might give this a whirl...

I'm also intrigued about using the Bosu or the like to intensify ab workouts - I'll have to keep my eye out for a sale on these things. I've been thinking they were pretty cool looking for a while now, but was never seriously considering it.

My b'day can't come fast enough this year! :)

Bosu now makes two "sports" models that are smaller and cost less. www.power-systems.com sells them.

Whoa!!!!!!! This looks fantastic!!! I might have to do this...

Thanks Kathryn!

Kathryn,

Do you have one of these? I am really liking this smaller idea - I am pretty sure that I'll only use this for ab work. There are two sizes - 7" tall and 17.5" diameter, or 9" tall and 21.5" diameter. When doing ab work on them, do you essentially just position them so that you are sitting on it? So if I ensure that the span of my butt is no more than 17.5", I should be ok with the smaller one? ;-)

They also have something called the CorDisc, which looks similar to the Bosu, but without the hard plastic on the one side - it's like a huge air cushion ($45).

Anyone have the CorDisc? Or should I just spring the extra $15 and go for the small Bosu?

Thx for the enabling... :)

Nope. Since my regular Bosu has a leak, and I have to fill it if I want to use it (I haven't for years!), I'm not so into it! (I do have some balance discs (4!) that I use for various things, but they are more the size of a chair cushion. (I use them to sit on at my home computer, which is on a Fanny Lifter!, I have used them to put my knees or hands on when doing push-ups, etc.)
