A work RAVE--need suggestions!

I have a coworker in her mid-50s with whom I've worked side by side for the last 5 years. I adore her. She's like my big sister. Whenever I'm feeling down she lifts me up. Whenever I'm stressing she chills me out. Whenever I need help she's there. Both professionally & personally.

Well, she announced about a month ago she was retiring (god bless the state pension system LOL). Not only is she retiring, she's retiring to Florida. At the time I thought, "good for her!" Now we're 3 weeks away, it's becoming more real every day, & I'm feeling so sad! I'm gonna really miss her & I just don't know what I'll do without her.

OK now I'm getting all teary. What I meant to ask was, what's a good retirement gift for someone who's like family to you? Other than chaining her to her desk & not letting her go........;-) Cost is not an issue here, I'd do anything for her. Any suggestions?

How about a plane ticket for 6 months or 1 year from now to ensure that you don't lose touch with each other.

That's a good idea Sonja. Last night I was actually thinking about a really nice address book--maybe a Coach or a Kate--& I'd make the first entry ME of course. :p That way she could put us all in & not lose touch. What do you think?

Laura I think the high-end address book is a terrific idea. If you get it in time you could send it around the office and people could put in their own info for the personal touch.

Oooh I didn't even think of that. Almost like a permanent Hallmark card. Thanks for the idea Suzanne! :)

Laura . . I had a friend retire from our company three years ago ..moved to West Palm Beach, FL... we were/are very close .. we email each other every day.

Before she left I got some pictures of her from her start at the company at different functions and made her a scrap book (some 20 years worth of photos).. then threw her a huge party w/her closest co-workers and friends .. took pictures that night and made a Disc of them .. then her last day at the office .. brought out the camera and took pics of her w/everyone at their work stations and offices and made a photo book and mailed it to her!

Think she liked the party the best though! ;-)

Even though she is so far away .. I feel like she is right here b/c we e-mail so often .. she still helps me out on issues that arise at work .. she is a jewel!!
