A revelation!

I know that I'm not the strongest person out there; I usually lift a little less than Cathe on most exercises, but I can match her on some, and on some back exercises I go heavier. But I've always felt wimpy using a barbell. Cathe and crew use so much weight, and I'm using a fraction of what they've got. Some exercises I only have 2.5 pound plates on each end! Pretty discouraging.

Today I was cleaning out my workout room (getting my new bouncy aerobic floor in a few days, I hope! Yay!), and I took the weights off of the bar to move it out of the room. It occurred to me that the bar felt like it weighs more than 5 pounds, which I think is what Cathe's bar weighs. So I weighed it. The dang thing weighs 15 pounds with no weight on it!!!! No wonder I can't put too many huge plates on it!

I feel better now...I may be kinda wimpy, but not as wimpy as I thought.:7

Kathy, you are also a sweetie! :*

We're following Chris's directions in the STS forum for making an aerobic floor. I ordered 300 of the foam blocks from stagestep (and the kids are having a ball using them as building blocks, LOL!) We have a favorite handyman who has done a bunch of other projects for us (he put the drywall and carpeting in the workout room a couple of years ago.) He said he's done a few of these floors before. He's coming over tomorrow to take measurements, etc, and I'm hoping he can get it done over the weekend! Can't wait!

You are welcome to come over and try it out when it's done...I think you can handle the three mile drive from your house to mine, LOL!

>That's one of the bestest revelations I have heard lately.
>How nice for you !

Thanks Jacque! I love it when everyone here is so supportive!:)

>WHAT?!?!?!?!?! You two only live THREE MILES from each
>other?!?!?!? NO FAIR!! I'm lonely over here in CT.... :( ;)
>

Okay, I just checked on mapquest and I underestimated a bit. It's 4.63 miles.:p

Allison, you should come visit us in Atlanta sometime and hang out with the Atlanta Cathe Fans!

Yay! Thanks, Jodi! I'm on my way! ;)

Wow, I'm busy this week. First I have to go to Mama Deb's house for Matzo ball soup and then I'm in Atlanta to hang out with Jodi and Kathy S. This is so exciting! ;) :)

Woohoo!! I remember when I did the same thing a couple yrs ago!! I thought my bar was 5# and it turns out it's 18# w/out weight!!! I figured it out when I was doing PLB and realized I was really doing 38, 43, 48# instead of 25, 30, 35#. ;)

And very cool that you live so close to another Catheite!

Jodi,

We're definitely having a GTG at your house. I'm so excited that you are getting a new floor. Just give me a date and time and I'll be there. I'm about 25 miles from my mom's house and you are probably 1/2 mile from them. HMMMMM - I'll be there in 30 minutes!!

How many steps can you fit in your workout room?

LOL Carolyn!

I'm not sure how many steps would fit. The area we're aiming for is 12 feet wide by 10 feet deep. This is assuming when he comes to check it out tomorrow that he doesn't find some major problem with our plan. I am so impatient I can barely stand it! (but at least it helps take my mind off the RT a little!)

How exciting! :) I know mine weighs more than 5 pounds but not sure how much, it would be great if mine was 15 pounds. Is that the average? I don't own a scale so would have to borrow someones to figure it out?!

I see those heavy dumbbells in your avatar picture so I'm sure you can lift pretty heavy!

Have fun with your new floor, that sounds awesome!!!

Mary

Thanks!

I just had to look at the avatar again...those may be my DH's dumbbells in the background, I'm not sure, LOL!

Jodi,
Thanks for the post. Got me thinking; how much does my barbell weigh? I always thought it was 10 lbs. Well, thanks to you, I went and weighed it for the first time. Well,,,,,,, Its 15 lbs.!! I know thats only a 5lb. difference, but for me thats major!! I'm a little less wimpy,too!!!:7
