A problem with running.

Cathe,
I have been over at VF talking to runners. They have told me that I need to back off some and slow down. I just started running 3-4 weeks ago and am running about 5 days a week. We run somewhere between 2-5 miles. The day we run 2 we also do stair work. Anyway to make along story short they have advised me to back off, only running every other day for about 1 mile for 10 days then adding 1/2 mile the next 10 days and gradually working up. They said it takes about 12 weeks to get to the point where I'm running 4-5 miles at a time. They are concerned that I might hurt myself. That my body needs to get acclimated to runninng. My question is, when running this 1 mile can I go fast? This may sound strange but I find if I run at the pace that feels good I'm running under a 9 minute mile. I'm not sure what I really run it at. If I slow down I can feel it in my hips and groins. That fast of a clip get me huffing but it feels better to me. I haven't been able to get a response over there. What do you think? Thanks Cathe.
