A little rant about iTreads

I have never tried an iTread, but I begin my power walks at 5.1 mph and spend most of my 60 mins between 5.2 and my current top speed of 5.8 mph. I walk at all these speeds, no running. 4- 4.5 mph is, for me, a slow walk. Sorry.

So, yes it is possible. Depends on how you are built I guess. I'm 5' 8" with long legs. Maybe Grace is the same?

But if you know what speeds of yours correspond to her definition of "jog," "steady state run," and "sprint," you can just ignore her speed suggestions and do what works for you, right?

no, deb, YOU'RE an inspiration. look at all your rotations and all the help you give others.

i did an iTread today (#20 35 minute intervals) and thought of you. yeah, grace's whoops can get a tad annoying, but i mostly find myself laughing at them. as for her speeds, why not start out at a speed YOU want, then don't listen to the specific speeds she says, just follow the increments? like, if you start out at 6.0 and she says take it up .2, just do that and ignore the speed she says (if sh says you should be at 6.5, just tell her to "shove it") and ignore the speed you "should" be at but do what;s comfortable for you. i know, duh. ;-) i think a great aspect of itread (or any of the guided workouts) is that i find they push me harder than i would push myself.

i REALLY think if you give the iTreads a chance and try to ignore the things that bother you, you might really like them as a compliment to the cc workouts (which are also great!). don't get hung up on numbers, times, or speeds, just enjoy. then again, they aren't for everybody.

oh, one thing that ALWAYS "bothers" the crap out of me is when i am working my arse off and grace says, "i'm right there with you." i always want to scream at her, "NO, YOU'RE NOT!!! YOU'RE SITTING IN A STUDIO SOMEWHERE READING THIS!!!" but her saying it does make me laugh.

uh-oh! running late. gotta jump in the shower!

Oh my gosh, I think the SAME thing! How funny. When I tried my first iTread months ago I thought, "wait, is she actually on a treadmill too?!?!" Now it just irritates me that she says that. (Well, it doesn't *really* irritate me, but you know what I mean. :)

One of my favorite things that Grace says now is something like "you can feel my hand on your back just helping and pushing you". For some reason that always helps me get up those torturous hills!

Lorie, that's what I do. I usually start out around 5.5 and go from there. Depends on the day. Sometimes I surprise myself and can go faster and other days I just don't have it in me. I won't give up on iTreads, they are excellent workouts like I stated in my original post. I just needed to vent about them on here. I'm loving the comments this thread has generated.

LMAO on what you think when she says, "I'm right there with you." I say aloud, "YEA RIGHT!!"

Another thing I hate that she says is: "CHEST UP!" Ummm, if your chest was down wouldn't you be running on all fours? LMAO!

Oh, Debbie, I love it when she says that! I always catch myself slumping my shoulders forward or hunching them towards my ears. I love it when she gives me reminders on my form like "relax your shoulders/relax your jaw/chest up." You wouldn't believe how many times I catch myself grinding my teeth or slumping forward and Grace says those reminders at the perfect times for me. How funny that one thing can annoy one person but help another!

I totally agree Allison. I always need to relax my shoulders.

deb and alli-

lmao about running on all fours!!!

ita about the form pointers. i need them sometimes. the only thing is, after reading "chi running" and learning about using a slight lean forward when running, i don't keep my "chest up" but i do notice i am tensing my jaw, shoulders, or something and it reminds me to relax when she says it.

Oh! Oh! The "I'm right there with you" gets me everytime too. Cause Grace is not panting or anything. Sometimes I want to strangle her when I hear that one but over all I love my iTreads.

eeeew...Ms. Grace "C'mon guys..uh wuh, uh two" Lazenby. I am not a fan!
No one is better than Sean in my book ;-) I use an elliptical...the treadmill makes me feel as though I am about to wooshed backward and fly into a wall.

I'm happy to read this from all of you, too. I was starting to feel that I must be a slow runner and out of shape, even though I can run (opps! jog) steadily at 6.0-6.2. What's funny is that Itains suggested speeds made me feel out of shape to run in front of others at the gym, because I thought I was slow.

I love Grace. I love all her little quirky sayings and her ramblings about glowstix and her whoops and her inability to count.

I also love Sean, because he's Sean and he whispers in my ear that I look good. *swoons*

I pretty much loathe the music in both CCs and iTreads, but I deal.

No, I'm 5'10" and I can't run for more than about 30 seconds at 7.0. Usually I stay around 6.0 and that's tough for me. I like to start my jog/run at about a 5.0 though because 4.5 I feel like I'm shuffling and it hurts my shins...:(

I've never tried these workouts you're talking about....I'm kinda glad now that I haven't...LOL!
