80s fancy dress party

Zozo

 I am attending an 80s fancy dress party tomorrow night.. and I have my outfit :) But I have no idea how to do my hair or makeup!

My outfit is:
Black lycra leggings
Black leotard with red zip
Red high heels
Black leg warmers

But how should I do my hair? Has anyone have any idea? I don't know what 80s hair was like really, except Madonna
In terms of makeup.. I have no idea either. I wear make up, but i don't like it to be obvious usually.. I have a feeling 80s was bold makeup?
Can anyone help??

Zozo, if you google "80's hair and makeup pictures" you'll get a ton of ideas. Is your hair long, short, curly, straight? Yes-lots of eye makeup and bright lips. Check out Wet 'N Wild makeup at the drugstore. I swear some of the colors have been around since I was a teen in the late 80's!

You'll need a hair dryer, a fine tooth comb, and some AquaNet!!

I used to dry my hair thoroughly then flip it over, spray some hairspray on it, and blast it with hair dryer. The I'd flip my hair back up and start teasing it. If I didn't like the volume, then I'd repeat the flip, spray, hair dryer, and tease. :D

You might also consider the side ponytail... :D

If your hair is short, then spikey would be good or "swept up".

As for make, dramatic is how you want to go. Blue or black eyeliner, lots of eye shadow, and definite "blush line". It's sounds so awful now but it was cool back then! :D

Good luck!! <<singing: Girls Just Wanna Have Fu-un>>

That sounds so fun!! My friends' annual halloween party was the theme '80's prom' so I just did the whole 80's thing a few weeks ago.

80's hair was BIG! The bigger and permy-er, the better! You'll need lots of hairspary (AQUA NET preferrably!) and a blow dryer. Lots of teasing to achieve the 'mall hair' so famous in the 80's!! And the make up was bordering 'clownish' at times. Bright blues on the eyes and bright pinks for cheeks. OH - I put a mole on myself for the party and it was the hit of the night! Madonna made moles famous in the 80's so take some black eyeliner and put one on!!:p

Have a great time at your party - the 80's were the best!!

Hair products, especially hair spray, were vital for the big hair. I have really thick hair and had a perm all throughout high school. Some of my friends with normal amounts of hair teased theirs, especially the bangs. With all that hair, there were a lot of barrettes, banana clips and big bows to hold it off the face.

I also seem to remember wearing pink pearly eyeshadow on my upper eyelid and blue on my lower with eye liner and mascara. I went for the natural look, though, so you might prefer bolder colors ; )

Don't forget to accessorize, accessorize, accessorize and think big.

I graduated in '87 in AZ, if that helps.

Thank you Thank you Thank you :)
My hair is short-ish.. so I can still do the whole BIG hair thing with a hairdryer :)

I have restocked on hairspray too, so that is VERY handy :)

It all sounds very... FUN :)
I might wear my makeup like that regularly, just for fun :)

I have another question: did the makeup tend to match the outfit?

Ahhh.. in that case... what sort of jewellery? Big earings??

Thank you so much again! This is so much help :)

OMG - I just had a flashback to my 'getting-ready-for-school-morning-routine'!!! LMAO That is sooooo funny!!:eek:

Jewelry - Lots of long strands of beads. I found some at WalMart, actually! Go for flourescent pink, white, black - anything goes with the 80's!!
And definately get some big, honking flourescent earrings. Again, I think Walmart has a whole section that has some great 80's jewelry. I guess the 80's are coming back??!!:p:p

That's great news :) I have LOTS of jewellery like that :) I guess the 80s really are coming back :)

:)

I used to have many pairs of colored sunglasses and matching socks that I would wear with my white Keds.

Big earrings (hoops or dangly things) and wide, plastic matching bracelets were important. Swatch watches (with the face guard, if you were lucky) were also key wardrobe items. The great thing is that they were cheap enough that you could have several in different colors and the face guards were interchangeable as well!

I do seem to remember matching eye shadow to clothing at times, but mainly stuck with the pink / blue combo, myself.

Boy, am I depressed!

When I was younger it was the "thing" to go back and dress like the 50's for a fun party. Most of my teenage years were in the 70's.

Now the younger crowd is going back to MY era for a goofy, fun dress up party.

When did I get so old?

BTW - have fun! If you're comfortable with it, post a picture so all of us oldies can get a glimpse of our past!

Of course! I will upload a photo :) Then you can all tell me if I mastered the '80s look' or not :)
And :) If it helps.. I'd have prefered to have done the 50s.. the Grease fashion is soo much fun :)

so much fun!!!

My new avatar/profile pic is from our Halloween party with the same theme...1984 prom :D It was, like totally, fun! A friend crimped my hair, back combed it, and layers and layers of aerosol hair spray...pretty much looked like a back up singer for Pat Benatar...a definitely mall rat hairdo!!!
Bigger is better, baby, when it comes to hair!!!!!
and accessories make the outfit :D
Have fun!

I am a teacher and for spirit week we had an 80s day so I went back to my high school routine. My hair was huge and teased and I wore just about every bracelet and necklace I owned. I also had the slouchy socks over my jeans and tons of makeup. My jeans weren't stonewashed though. It was such a fun day. The kids definitely loved it.
