6 month alumni Weekly checkin 10/4

Oh my goodness...I knew I had missed a couple of days but when I went back to catch up (which is way more convenient the way we are posting now!) I had not realized I had missed that many days. Sorry about that.
We have been helping my brother the last couple of days. He is finishing up an addition on his house and he is down to the finishes, like the flooring. So a couple of days ago we went over there to help him and it turned into a couple of days worth of work.At first, dh wasn't happy about it but that was because it was a type of floor that we do not regularly install and honestly I think he was a little nervous about messing up. I don't know why though because it turned out so beautiful. When it was all said and done, he was happy and I think a little proud too.

This week has been full of the slow and heavy but since this rotation, this month, is upper body twice a week and lower body twice a week, today was legs and glutes off of the KPC dvd. Whew...I have done a version of that one off of the fittv channel before but I had not done it since I got KPC. That one is a good one. I was feeling the tiredness in my legs pretty much right when I was finished. I hope this means I will have some doms tomorrow. I was surprised with S&H Chest and Back. Normally I get sore in my chest and not my back. This time I got really sore in my back esp. the muscles right along the spine, but not really any chest soreness even though I felt like I was really working. Go figure huh.

The weather here is really up and down. Two days ago it was horribly humid and hot...Yesterday it was about 70 and nice...Today it is going to 94 and humid and then a big cold front is coming as I am sure Jo has already been affected by and we are supposed to hi's in the 60 and lo's in the 40's. They say if you do not like the weather in East TX...wait a minute.:D When I was young I did not get that statement but now I do more than ever.

Cendrine-I know what you mean about the circuit work. Right now I think I am really out of cardio shape anyhow. It is weird how your body changes so quickly. I hope with shock cardio I will be able to build up my endurance like sts helped build my strength...even though I have probably lost that too. I may try to do a circuit style rotation after the sept. rotation I amd doing. I like the Oct rotation but I am trying not to do any sts until shock cardio comes except for the occasional plyo workout.

Jo-So did you get snow yet? I was watching the national weather today and up your way was super cold I think even for yall at this time of year.
I did not catch the biggest loser this year but was wondering whose style of training do you like the best. Jillian's or Bob's? They are on opposite sides of the spectrum. They both seem to work but I do not know if I could take Jillian. But I guess some people need to be pushed like that or they don't get very far.

Kim-Thanksgiving this weekend? I hope this is not a stupid Q but do yall celebrate Thanksgiving for the same reasons. I know I could probably just google that:eek:. So how will yall celebrate at the cottage. Will there be a great feast like we typically do down here? I am definitely a turkey and southern dressing kind of gal. I do not skip on thanksgiving ever. The sad part is that this year my MIL is talking about having Norwegian meatballs instead. Although I love those too I would much rather have the traditional food. Call me old fashioned I guess. We will have to have both.

OK I think while the weather is clear (more rain coming) I will try to make a run to goodwill and and the grocery store. I have been slowly cleaning out my closet of the things that did not get worn this summer. I figure if they did not get worn this summer they should go.

Have a great day!

Rachel

Oh Rachel, please come help me do my closet!! I have stuff in there from forever...I've mentioned a number of times I'm working on my closet, but it's half-hearted, without enthusiasm and not very productive! Yes we missed you but knew you'd be back! I like this weekly checkin thread also!

No snow yet. Today is actually going to be 59 but it was 42 when I came to work. They said we're going to have a mild winter which usually means little to no snow...but with what we had last year, it more than made up for a couple of years! HA!

Cendrine, did you do Step Max? What did you think? That's another oldie but goodie! I usually am up by 7-7:15 and am working out by 7:30. I don't usually get to work until 10ish. (Remember I'm a night owl!) In the old days when I use to have to take my step son to school, I was up at 5:30, had him to school by 7 and then worked out after work. After he graduated was when I changed to working out in the mornings which was a big challenge for me to change to but I really prefer having my workout the beginning of my day and then have it done. Your salad sounds wonderful!

Kim, once again, thank you for sharing the information from your book! I'm will be anxious for you to finish CLX so you can give us the official review! I'm finding I'm missing having all of you doing Meso 2 with me. Are you checking in with other people doing CLX? Or are you going it alone? Happy Thanksgiving to you! I did know about it because of all my Toronto co-workers. Hope you enjoy your weekend at the cottage!

I did disc 14 today (legs) and am glad I decided to repeat week 1. I'm definitely more mentally aligned than I was last week. I'm really enjoying doing it too.

Hope you're all having a good day!

Well...I had other stuff I'd posted to Rachel and it disappeared! So I don't have time to retype, but wanted to at least mention what a great workout L&G is! Did you find there was a lot cut out from the TV version? Butts & Guts is still my favorite legs workout with L&G coming in 2nd. (This being non STS leg workouts as I find I love all the leg workouts in STS.)

Okay bye now!

Hi Everybody!

I did Step Max today! I enjoyed it and the plyo work at the end worked me good.

How's everyone else's workouts going?

Not much to tell today... Have a great day!

Well the heat is on! I have the a/c which has not been on for a good couple of weeks but I guess that is how it goes.
I am finally done with groceries and all the other errands I had to do. I have been wanting a cast iron ceramic coated stew pot forever and today I just happened to find a good deal on one at TJMaxx. I just can't wait to use it. Tomorrow I am going to make a big pot of chili to test it out. That should be good cold front food right?;)
Not too much else to report here. My b-day is Sunday and dh is off shopping. I told him not to go crazy and that all I really wanted was a homemade ice cream cake with oreos...my favorite store bought cookie. I never eat them because to buy them you have to get a huge package and I am the only one who likes them. Can you imagine the destruction. At certain times of the month I just can not quit eating things like that. So since I have quit keeping those things around, it is way better around here. It is weird I have noticed a big change in my snacking since I started checking in on here when we started sts. The really weird thing is that I do not really think about food that often anymore. It used to consume every unoccupied moment of my day. Who knows how it will be tomorrow though. You know how finicky our minds are.

Jo-Don't let me fool you. My closet is still a mess it is just a little lighter. Now I have to move winter in and then it will be crowded again. But I think I might have done this in the spring too when I moved winter out because I looked in the closet that I keep that stuff in and it did not seem as crowded. I do not have a ton of winter clothes anyway because our winters are not too bad. But in saying that, we keep the thermostat at 68 in the winter and I freeze to death:D. So I have a lot of wear around the house winter stuff. Just not go out in public winter stuff.

Cendrine-How are the three ab w/o's coming. So far I have one in this week. Day before yesterday I did no equipment abs from the ab circuit dvd. So this means I have 2 more to go. I was going to do one today but TTOTM came and I just did not have the ab strength or want if you know what I mean. Sometimes I have a very mild period but this time I was a few days late and I think my uterus was pissed. I was glad to get through L&G.

Well I guess on that TMI note I will go and see what I can get into.

Have a great day!

Rachel

Hi Guys

C&W for me today. I so love this workout! I'm still not used to the circuit format, plenty of sweating and huffing going on, but that means my body is working hard and that's what I want!

Rachel, I have two ab workouts under my belt, so, one more to go. How are you doing?

I'm still on my green smoothie experiment and am drining a smoothie made with apples, kale, ginger and lemon. It is surprisingly good and very refreshing... I don't know how long I'm going to do this but it sure is an easy way to get some green stuff in the morning! LOL!

Well, off I go, have to finish the week of school with the kids.

Talk to you all later!

Good Friday Morning!
It is quiet a stormy one here. So we are cooped up in the house for the day but at least we do not have anywhere we need to be.
That's ok though because I have some real organizing to do today. We have bought our bedroom furniture piece by piece and yesterday dh got the dressers that finish it out for my b-day. I was completely surprised. We are taking apart our closet and are going to set it up so the dressers will go in there but we are going to have to build a couple of hanging racks in there. I am very excited. I guess this means Jo that I am finally on my way to an organized closet. We will see how long it lasts though:rolleyes:. Dh is not one for keeping things organized.

Today was my last slow and heavy workout. It was bi's and tri's. At first I thought I was not going to like this one because I was anticipating the burn from that slow concentrated movement but I ended up really liking that burn. Go figure right?:p As you probably remember, Cendrine, it had an ab workout at the end so now I have 2 in with one left. It should be interesting because tomorrow is IMAX2 and I know I will have to force myself to do them after that workout. But I will tell myself that it will be my birthday present to me, and I will not skimp on myself. How are the abs coming for you Cendrine?

Well I better go be sociable. We have an unexpected guest. I will elaborate on that one later.

Rachel

Cendrine we must have posted at the same time. I have wondered about those green smoothies. I have seen other people post about them on the other forums. What made you try it? I was always worried that since I was use to a sweet smoothie that I would not be able to wrap my taste buds around it.

Rachel

Hi Girls!

Cendrine...your smoothie sounds wonderful! An employee made me something similar earlier this week with kale and apple...I don't know what else was in it but they called it Kale lemonade! I was on a conference call and they brought it in to me so I didn't get to find out all the ingredients! Are you blending or do you use a juicer?

Rachel, how sweet of DH! And Happy Birthday! Seriously, I'm going to work on my closet tomorrow! ;) I love the S&H B&T workout! Isn't that great? I was doing S&H before I started STS. Sounds like today is a good day for you to be doing in-house activities! Hope it's productive! Of course you're always busy so I'm sure it will be!

Hello Kim if you're not already gone! Happy Thanksgiving!

I was up too late so got up too late and only had time to get in 7 intervals of Imax 3. That's okay though - I was really feeling it since I did Legs yesterday. I had planned to do Imax 3 plus No Equipment Needed Abs, but oh well!

BBL!

Oh my gosh! Did you guys see the Download Forum? All Cathe DVD's are now available for download! Go check it out! This is great news! (Oh but wait...I'm not supposed to be spending any money!) But XMAS is coming! Yipppppeeee!!!! We want to help the economy right?

Hi again!

Rachel, you and me will both have our abs to do....lol. I'm not particularly looking forward to it...

About those green smoothies. I think the trick is to work your way up and only use mild greens, at least at first. I tried a mix on monday that had kale, beet greens and spinach in it and it had a bit of a sting. I suspect it was the beet greens, so I will leave those out for now and see how it goes. The proportions for the kale apple smoothie was four leaves of kale, two apples, a piece of ginger, juice of a lemon (you can even add the whole thing peel included if you are brave, which I'm not yet, but it's supposed to be good for asthma, so I will give it a try because now that the air is cooler I get tight every once in a while) and then I added some flax for good fats and a tsp of stevia. It really worked for me. I decided that if I get to get myelf to be healthier by doing greens, then I can splurge on sweetener like stevia or agave or even honey to make it go down easier...LOL. the person who got me to try green smoothies again was talking about doing a ratio 50% veggies, 50% fruit with whatever liquids of your choice. That makes for a very green smoothie. I think I'm somewhere at 25% greens but that is still 1/4 more than I have been doing...LOL.

Jo, the downloads are crazy! wow! And I just ordered a bundle a month ago! But am I right that you have to purchase even each premix separately? You can't just buy one dvd's worth of workouts, right? I might have to do a cost comparison of all the titles on my wishlist... and see with the discounts if it works. Do any of you know if the ipod stuff can be burned on dvds and used instead of hooking up the ipod to the tv? Obviously I only know little about this techie stuff and dh is not home to answer my questions...
But Christmas is coming! And something Cathe related will be under that tree for me one way or the other...LOL!

Rachel, happy birthday, how nice of your husband to get the dresser! Dh did that for our bedroom a couple of years ago and it was so fun! Definitely need to hit my closet sometime soon for some organizing as well!

Wow Cendrine, I am going to have to look into that green smoothie thing. I have been having a little trouble finding Kale here. It takes a while for the stores around here to catch up. The grocery store that I shop at just started carrying greek yogurt. I was having to get it at the vitamin and natural food store I go to. That was a hassle because it was a good drive from the house and I would only go there when I needed to do errands out that way so I would have to take a little cooler withe me. Such a pain.

I am no techie neither. I did not even think about the premix thing. I was waiting for dh to get home to ask about the burning onto disc thing too. But if I had to purchase every premix it would not be worth it for me. Because I love having everything all on one disc. I also love having all the premixes because I feel I get to take advantage of more workouts that way.

The closet is on hold for the day due to the unexpected visitor. It is a relative of dh's. Now he is having to kind of entertain him for the day. He wanted to stay the weekend and thank goodness dh thought fast and said we had big plans for my b-day. I hate to be that way but he just showed up with out a call or anything. So I do not feel we should have to entertain him the whole weekend. Anyway, I have hair day tomorrow just in time to get the grey covered and pretend they aren't there for my 33rd. :p I am too young to have that many grey's showing.

Have a great day!

Rachel

Just got done doing Lean Circuit 3 CLX, ds joined in for a minute. Always nice to have company. Wasn't sure I was going to do it after a busy week at work (and I worked all 5 days;)) then I picked up kids from school and hurried to the pediatrician for ds to have a check for his asthma. Then we met DH at a restaurant for dinner. It was very yummy, and I ate too much.:eek:I was so full I didn't know if I was going to get to my workout! But after some tv time I was ready to go. Looking forward to sleeping in tomorrow.

I'm also very excited about the new announcements today! I'm mostly excited about the filming of Shock Cardio! Hopefully we'll have them for Jan1st!! I was excited about the downloads but really don't think I would use them. I just always work out in my basement.

We're getting some light snow here today. Going to minus 5 tonight. We're not going out to the cottage till Sat evening or Sunday am because of ds's hockey tryouts are still going on :rolleyes: Sat. evening. There will be 13 of us at the cottage and we will do the whole turkey dinner. The turkey will be cooked on the barbeque (snow or not) because the oven isn't working so well out there. Will do the stuff like winterize the boat, take out the dock, put out the mouse poison:D:D to keep the cottage over the winter.

Rachael, I don't really know the origins of either Canadian or American Thanksgiving. I think it was a celebration/time of thanks at the end of harvest. It's interesting that we have one day off for Thanksgiving (you have 2) and we get 2 for Christmas while you get 1??

Cendrine It's interesting how you have to get used to do circuits again. I'm wondering since I'm starting Insanity in a couple of weeks what it will be like since it's cardio intense and STS and CLX were mostly weights. I bet my cardio isn't so good anymore:confused::confused: The green smoothies sound interesting, I'm not very adventurous when it comes to trying new foods.

Jo Way to go on getting up early to do IMAX 2! I used to get up to workout before work more often when the kids were younger but now I'm using the evenings more. I have to be at work for 7:30 so have to get up early to get in a workout. No CLX check in for me. I also check in with the coolers who used to be the P90X group from a couple of years ago. But only 3 of us left and neither of those ladies were doing STS when we started. They are both doing STS now. It's one of the ladies (MommaPew) that lent me CLX.

Rachael How nice of you guys to help your brother with his floor! I'm sure it looks great! How is your DH enjoying P90X?? How are the back DOMS?? Have a great birthday on Sunday!

Kim

Hi Guys,

I had to talk myself into working out today but I ended up doing the whole Step Jam dvd and some abs (since I committed to do three ab workouts this week) Glad it's done and it was actually enjoyable. But I am going to have to go back to the Chiropractor again this week, my lower back and my neck are still bothering me, so jumps and things are not as fun to do right now. I wish I knew what it is that gets me into these predicaments so I could prevent them....

So I tinkered with the green smoothie recipe again and omitted all beet greens and added just kale, since that was all I had left. It tasted good! This time I had bananas and mixed berries to mix in. Rachel, if you can't get kale you can just use spinach. They say swiss chard and collards are neutral tasting in smoothies too, but I haven't tried it... I feel adventurous enough just doing spinach and kale (beet greens did not work for me) I'm sure I will find out a few recipes that really work without compromising taste that I can rotate... I have to say I do feel better since drinking those smoothies this week. Quite a fast result, I'm looking forward to what it will do long term. I told myself I would give myself until Christmas to tinker around with and get used to drinking green smoothies five times a week and then decide if it's going to be something I will continue to do or not. But in order not to burn out, I am going to have to try all sorts of variations...

Kim, I would be scared starting Insanity even if I was back in circuit workout shapes, I think it would kill me to do one a week right now...LOL! I know your endurance level with all your runs is better than mine, you'll probaly do fine. But it will still be a shock for your body, which I guess is not a bad thing... You'll definitely have to let us know how the transition went!

Thanksiving is an interesting thing, isn't it? I know here in the us it is to celebrate the pilgrim's survival on the new continent thanks to the indians helping them out. In Switzerland we celebrated Thanksgiving too, but no turkeys. In Switzerland it is more of a religious thing. Only church going folks will celebrate it and as part of a church service. In our church people all brought things harvested from their gardens, so there would be beautiful displays of flower arrangements, vegetables, fruits, braids of onions and garlic, homemade breads, jams, canned produce etc. Then everybody would purchase whatever they wanted and the proceeds were donated somewhere. But that is the extent of it in Switzerland, no big family dinner and such.

Rachel, what did you do for workout and abs today? Did your guest leave as planned? I feel for you, I am not very flexible when it comes to unannounced stuff like this. Have a wonderful Birthday, it's tomorrow, right? Enjoy it and go do somethig fun!

Good afternoon gals!
It is still a cloudy dreary mess here but they are promising sun for this afternoon. I am looking and still no SUN! Hopefully tomorrow. It can be cloudy all it wants today but I would love sun for tomorrow. It would be a nice start for this week.

Of course today was hair day and I got all the grey covered and I was feeling a little adventurous so I got a few more layers too:rolleyes: I am sooo crazy huh? LOL

The company finally left last night at about 11:30pm. He kept hinting around that he did not know what he was going to do all weekend and I just ignored that like I did not hear it. I have a bad habit of giving in to things I don;t want to because I feel guilty or something. I am not really sure what it is but I felt good that I stood my ground this time. It would be different if the company was pleasant but it one of those situations that you just have to endure and get through. You know?

Anyhow. My b-day is tomorrow and I know y'all are going to find this odd but I told dh all I wanted to do is stay home and have hamburgers (which I never have) and pull stumps. I am weird I know., but it is so gratifying when you get the whole darn thing out!:D Since it has been raining all week it should be great ground for doing it. Good exercise too!

Kim-You are probably gone now but I hope you have a great Thanksgiving! I just checked in so I have not seen the Shock cardio announcement but I will have to go check that out! The only way I think I would use the down loads is if I had to go out of town again and I needed something to follow in a gym. That might come in handy! Very well done on doing your work out after the big dinner. That is something I can never do. I have to get it in in the morning or it just won't happen. Dh has not went back to p90 for about a week but I could kind of see that happening. He does that alot. He will start something full force and then burn out quickly.:D. The back doms finally went away. I had them for at least 3 days though. That is really unusual for me.

Cendrine-Switzerland's Thanksgiving sounds nice. Do you and your family celebrate traditionally here?
I know how you feel about tweeking your back and not knowing how. I have hip issues like that. It is not all the time but when it happens I try to figure out what I did and is it the same thing that is aggravating it everytime. I can never figure it out.
How are you incorporating the green smoothies into your meals. Are you having them for breakfast or just anytime you feel like it? You are really peaking my curousity. Esp. since you say you are feeling better and it has only been a week.
This mornings workout was supposed to be IMAX2 and I was going to find an ab workout but since the guest did not leave until late I was not able to get up as early as I needed to to get all of IMAX2 in so I did the 1 thru 5 premix and then since I could not let our 3 ab workout commitment go I did the ab workout on that same disc. So in total I worked out about 40 min. I would have preferred more but since I almost did not get up at all I think this was a good compromise. And I am proud that I made my commitment and stuck to it! The abs were not too bad for me today either. I tried to really concentrate on using them everytime and I felt like I really got them good.

OK I have chatted you up enough so let me see if I can get something done in this dismal dreary atmosphere!:p

Have a great day!

Rachel

Hey Rachel,

I'm glad your company finally left and am proud of you for working out at all! Dh and ds are out camping for the weekend, so it is just dd and me. When I don't work out I stay in bed until she gets up and comes and snuggles with me. I was very tempted to do that today! But then I decided to just get up and do it. She can suggle with me tomorrow since it is scheduled rest day. Good job for also doing the abs!

Hair day, I haven't had one since probably February this year... I always have them cut like I think it was 7 inches last time. The funny thing is they always ask if I'm sure I want that much off...LOL But I know I do because I don't know when is the next time I will take time off to get it cut... Not a priority for me...and you can't tell when your hair is long anyway... But I'm thinking it's about time for those ends...

The smoothies I do for breakfast. It works out really well because i can sip it while I start teaching ds and so I don't spend that time at the kitchen table eating, but can do it all in one! Funny thing is that the kids are bugging me to make them some too! Either my kids are used to green eating or the smoothies really arent that bad...LOL!

I have a batch of homemade granola in the oven right now. It should turn out pretty yummy and I'm experimenting making homemade kefir. Have any of you had that before? I used to get it at home as a kid. there were two types, one was like yoghurt but easier because you can just let it sit at room temp, the other is more liquid and can be used for drinks or over your cereal. I read that the probiotics on it are really good and so I decided to try it here.

Yes, we will celebrate traditional thanksgiving here. Although I usually don't do a whole turkey, but maybe a turkeybreast or something like that. Less leftovers and also a lot less messy...LOL

Hi Girls! Busy day for me: workout, clean house, oil change for my vehicle, grocery store, target, home to cook dinner and now here I am! I did Disc 15, back and biceps this morning and did better than last week. Pullups and chinups are definitely something I will have to work up to. I'm loving the tower though! I did legs on Thursday and I'm still feeling the DOMS!

Okay, I want to share with you my kale saute I made up. This is what I cooked tonight.

1 tbls olive oil
1 whole onion
a ton of garlic (we like lots)
1 whole green pepper

Saute those things until soft. Then add:

1 can water chestnuts chopped up
corn from 2 ears of corn
1 can black beans
1 bunch of kale chopped up
Cooked tilapia (it broke into small pieces once added)
1 can of italian stewed tomatoes
3 tsp oregano
chili pepper flakes (depending on how spicy you like it - we had lots!)
About 3 tbls pine nuts
Cook for about 10 minutes on low heat mixing everything up real good!

Then we put it on romaine lettuce and kind of ate it with our hands. I had wanted to roll it in the romaine to make wraps but the spines were too big. Anyway, I'm not the creative cook that you girls are so this was a surprise for everyone! And it was good!

Oh, and...I went and bought a juicer today! They had them on sale at Macy's and I've been wanting one....

Oh, Rachel, I'm glad you company is gone! I'm like you...I often find myself offering to do something I don't really want to do and feel guilty if I don't and then if my offer is accepted I'm miserable! Sigh...I think many of us do that! Glad you got to pamper yourself with hair day!

Cendrine, how did you like Step Jam? Overall, are you enjoying these older workouts? I swear they are timeless! And you (or I do) tend to think because they are older they might be easier - but they're not! Hope your back feels better! And, enjoy your time with dd! How fun for you!

Okay, I guess we're going to watch a movie so I'll talk to you tomorrow!

Happy Birthday Rachel!!!!!

Jo, that meal sounds so delicious I will try it soon! What a fun idea to eat it with romaine lettuce! Thanks for sharing it!

I see I am in good company with you and Rachel, I tend to offer out of guilt and then am miserable to follow through, too! So I'm trying to just learn to endure the tension of feeling guilty but not doing anything about it if I know that the only reason I would do anything is so I wouldn't feel guilty. ... Easier said than done... but every little no counts toward progress...

I have thought of getting a juicer before too! What made you want one? Have you tried it out yet? I hope you like it!

And I agree the old cathe workouts are by no means easier and they are timeless except maybe for some arm moves... but I love them! They are great and fun cardio workouts!
