6 month alumni weekly check in 10/18

OK...When I get a late start like this I am never sure if after I get done gong on and on that someone else will post and I have no idea how to cut and paste:eek:. So I like to get one on the board.

Today is a scheduled rest day for me. So this morning it was cereal Sunday and dvr'ed Grey's Anatomy. I am on and off of that show but right now I am so on it.
The weather is going to be great again today. This morning it is 41 and I am still refusing to turn the heat on so it is about 60 in the house so I am sitting here in sweats with 2 shirts on looking like a homeless person.
I do not know what is on the books for today except for some grocery shopping. But first I am going to make a meal plan. DH commented last night that he has been starving here lately and I think it is because I have had all these soups and things made up for me and thought he was content with his steaks...Guess not. I hate it when he eats a lot of red meat anyway! But he did purchase all that meat and he has to eat it to move it from the freezer so I will have room for other things.

Next week is a 4DS rotation. It is my last week of 2 days a week each for upper and lower body. I really liked this rotation and probably will do it again in some form. I am really feeling yesterdays KPC in my outer upper hip/outer butt area. That shows you how long it has been since I have done any side kicking. Next week I will get a jump start on the circuit rotation to because I think that is how it is written for 4DS. To do the cardio and weights on the same day. So I will get a taste of how out of circuit shape I am.

Jo-Sorry about the pouring rain. I know it is difficult to do anything in the rain. I am sure you are keeping yourself busy with a good book though. What are you reading right now?
I still have not got up the nerve to do the juice yet. It would only be me trying it, I promise, so unless it saves I will have to make half the amount. DH won't eat veges. in the whole for the most part so he def. is not going to drink them. How long do you wait after you drink the juice to work out?

Kim-My goodness your schedule for yesterday is more than I have on a calendar for a month. You get your exercise just running around! Wedding and reception and hockey all in the same day! I would have never got all that done. Did you say hair too:eek:
That is bad luck with the limo breaking down and the bridesmaid fainting...did they figure out why she fainted? I know it could not have been heat;)

Cendrine-We have something similar to the tom's thing here. It is a big pumpkin patch and it has a big blown up slide and a hay maze. Fun for the kiddos. It gets me in the spirit too just seeing it. I do not know what I like more, the fall holidays or Christmas. I love all the christmas movies and decorations but I think that Thanksgiving is a more relaxed holiday and you get to just hang out, eat and visit! The weather is always pretty nice here too around that time.
I saw the record heat wave yall are having. Ughh I hate when you get a taste of nice weather and then it turns hot again. That happens here a lot.

OK I am off to figure out what I can cook for dh to dazzle and fill him up!

Have a great DAY!!!

Rachel

Good Morning Sunshines!!!! (No not shining here!)

Holy Guacamole Kim! Fainting bridesmaids and bizarre fender benders! Forgive me, but I did chuckle a little as they are such bizarre events! You are a busy busy busy woman! LOL!

Rachel, after I juiced I didn't workout for about an hour...I probably drank way more juice than I needed to (like 12 oz) so it was really filling! Also, I make them taste so good DH loved them. You could tell your DH that you just put green food coloring in his juice to go with the season and it's really a new limeade! :p You actually could sneak vegetables into him without him knowing! I finally finished Pillars of the Earth and am now reading The Lost Symbol - the new Dan Brown book. What are you reading? I have a whole stack of books waiting to be read! (So many books, so little time!) I have books both in hard/soft cover and on my Kindle! I'm considering returning to the closet or drawers today. With the weather like this I should be cleaning out SOMETHING! :) Oh, and did you do 4DS rotation before? That should sure is a good series! Very efficient workouts!

Cendrine, did you get to Step Works today? I'm dying to know how you liked it! We have a giant coop farm about 1 mile from here (actually there's several) and they have a huge pumpking patch. In spite of the rain yesterday, there were tons and tons of people there! So fun for the kids! I bet that's a good time for all. Oh a GF has a 3 year old like you and she took her to pick out her pumpkin the other night. The little girl thought the pumpkins were all too big for her and picked out a gourd! LOL!

Okay, off to the shower. I did Disc 16 today (chest, shoulders and triceps) for the 2nd time and this was the best workout since I restarted this Meso again. I was able to do all the weights and reps as originally planned from my workout card. The last time I did this was April 20! Can you believe it? BBL!

Hi Everybody!

Jo, I didn't get to Step Works, but I have planned it in for next week. I have several workouts this coming week that I haven't done before among which are Step Fit, Step Works and Circuit Max. I'm looking forward to them!
Did you get to your closets? I havent' done anything but buy more... But with me feeling more cold I just felt like buying some sweaters...

Rachel, how's the mealplanning going? I love 4DS Im doing it the week after this one in a circuit format using the premixes. I'm looking forward to it, the step ones in particular I really love!
Since you are wondering about where to fit in the juice (or smoothie) here's what I have done: I basically swapped them from my protein shakes to the smoothies. You could, if you wanted to, add protein powder to your smoothies (not sure if it would work with the juice, Jo- any input here?) So basically I get a lot less protein but I have done it for two weeks straight now and haven't felt bad effects.

Oh, I'm tired today. What a weekend. I feel like I need to simplify our lives somehow. Kids had swimming lessons, dd has a cold so sneezing away. Came home had lunch did CLX and some yard work (snow's melted so cleaned up the garden). Then DH took ds to hockey practice and then to watch the football game. DD and I are just relaxing. I was previewing the Insanity workout and fell asleep on the couch for awhile. The house is a total diaster but I have no energy to clean it.
Had fun at the wedding reception, it was a beautiful dinner. We had fun dancing afterwards and stayed till 11:30.

Cendrine WOW, you've got some heat! I'm actually pretty strict with my kids eating as well, for sure they have to eat what I make for dinner. I do try to make a protein, veggie and carb for dinner each night. We don't usually have dessert. My meals are pretty basic though. Tom's sounds like fun. We have a similar place not too far from us where we go to pick strawberries in the summer and do the corn maze in the fall. But never made in out there this fall. Enjoy all the new workouts this week, I'm looking forward to new workouts next week.

Rachael Did you make some money at the garage sale? What were you selling?? I'm never heard what happened with the bridesmaid but she seemed fine at the dinner. Any idea when your next job will start?? Enjoy the sunshine!

Jo I ordered the calendar too and since I had the 20% off I got some new bands. And since the weekly special was a dvd that I only had on VHS I decided to get that too:eek: So I managed to spend $63:rolleyes:. I've been wanting to read "The Lost Symbol", is it good? Since I get my books from the library I've just been waiting till I see it but maybe I should reserve it??

I'm going to skip my rest days and power through the last week of CLX. The kids and I have no school/work Friday and I"m so looking forward to a quieter more relaxing weekend. I thought if I do the 5 workouts Sun-Thurs then maybe I'll take a few days off my workouts and really relax.:D:D Although I really miss Cathe I'm going to do the 8 weeks of Insanity which will take me right to Jan 1st (with my Disney trip in there). I've bought Insanity so better use it because after I get STS cardio I probably won't want to do it.

I've been doing Cathe since dd was born (9yrs ago) with only a few breaks here and there. (To do P90X, BFL or marathon training). I think this is the longest break from Cathe I've had. I guess this says something in that I always come back to her workouts. :D:D DH was commenting that this is the first time in years that there is no fitness stuff on my Christmas list.

Kim

I'm sitting here laughing at myself! Cendrine, not a COOP farm! LOL! What a goober I am! I meant a co-op! Scheesch...well that gave me a good laugh! You're probably wondering what we have going on up here in the NW! LOL!

I have not tried putting protein powder with my juices yet. I guess part of the reason is my juices have been heavy on the dark leafy vegetables so they already have quite a bit of protein in them. But I think I might try that when I have a fruit based one. Maybe juice, then pour it in the blender with some protein powder and ice?!?! You think? I'll try that this week - man, that would be a power punch!

Okay, no...no closet (I just can't bring myself to do it!). I ended up making some kale soup, doing laundry, talked to my mom twice, DH mom, and now thinking I should update my resume...just in case. I think I need a GF to come help me with the closet. I can't bear to part with anything. And, believe it or not, I am one that resurrects old clothes that are over 5 years old and people think I have something new and great! Or sometimes, I finally find something to go with those pants or whatever that never had the right sweater or blouse and now it's a great outfit. I think it's worse because I never change sizes. I've worn the same size clothes FOREVER so I can keep recycling through stuff (even though I know it should go!) Now, I do get rid of some stuff I know I'll never wear again, but I have a lot of "might" as in might wear again.

Chapter 10: Cues Activate Brain Circuits That Guide Behaviour

-Activity in the brain is stimulated not only by food itself, but also by cues suggesting that food is nearby.
-First, we have to learn through experience that a cue is linked to a specific food and once this happens the signal that predicts the food, rather than the food itself, generates the dopamine response.
-this signal then becomes the trigger of desire, we call this a "conditioned stimulus"
-conditioning can happen quickly. In one study, people were given a high-sugar, high-fat snack for 5 consecutive mornings. For days afterwards, they wanted something sweet at about the same time each morning that they had been fed the snack.
-an animal releases dopamine in a steady and fairly consistent pattern when it is not being stimulated. But give an animal a reward, and transient bursts of increased dopamine can be detected in its brain. Cues that are associated with rewards turn on electrical activity in the brain.
-cue induced wanting is triggered by the sight of a cookie or someone lighting up a cigarette nearby or clinking the ice cubes in a drink. These kinds of cues have the power to evoke the desire to have that food Sights, sounds, ,smells, time of day and location can all be cues. People and moods can also be cues.
-cues ensure that we will work hard to obtain the reward/food because of the dopamine release in our brain.

Oh Kim! We were posting at the same time! It sounds like you need some rest so enjoy another nap! I'm with you...I always come back to Cathe. I've been doing her workouts since 1993. My last big break away from Cathe was when P90X came out (I think 2005) and I did do it but found myself sneaking Cathe in for legs and cardio and then was anxious to get completely back to Cathe. I think I did P90X as is for the first 6 weeks but the leg work wasn't intense enough for me and I didn't really click with Tony so struggled with it. So far so good on the Lost Symbol. I'm only about 100 pages into it but am liking it! At my library, the new releases cycle fast so if I get on the list it usually isn't more than 30 days wait (60 at the worst).

Okay, here's my new experiment that turned out wonderful!

I juiced kale, collards, romaine, apple, pear, lemon, grapes and ginger. I was careful to juice all the greens first so that the fruit pulp was on the top. Then I removed the fruit pulp (very little anyway) and took all the greens and sauteed them with onion, garlic, and red pepper. Now the pulp is very dry since there's no juice left so I added Trader Joe's lemon pepper marinade and the corn off 3 ears and heated it up. It was FANTASTIC! Again, we ate it on romaine leaves. (Juice was awesome by the way!) Nobody even knows it was pulp! And my stepson thought it was awesome and asked me to make "that kale dish" again! Don't you love it? So it was two days of pulp and made quite a bit. You girls are my inspiration!

Top Gun is on...think I'll go watch it! I'm thinking about KPC for tomorrow.

Last post for the night...I think I'm addicted to kale now! I only just discoverd it since Cendrine originally posted that soup recipe. So now I've souped it, baked it, steamed it, sauteed it, juiced it and now recycled kale pulp! I'm crazy! LOL! It's replaced my love of spinach and become my #1! Who'd of thought?

Jo I love your enthusiasm toward Kale!!!:D If only the grocery stores down here would stock it so I could see what the buzz was about! Oh well one day. They just started carrying the Greek yogurt full time. I know forgive the south. They were probably like...Greek yogurt is that difernt than that yoplat stuff...:rolleyes:I can say that since that is how I talk anyway!

Today was 4DS kickboxing, legs and core. I went all the way through it and I think I could have gone more. I think this is going to be a strong week for me! I even added weight but I feel like I could have gone heavier. So I think my other leg workout this week is butts and guts so I will have to really get down on that one if I am still feeling this strong by Fri.

Not too much going on today. DH has a job meeting to go to and I think I am going to stay home and try to clean some of the house anyway. I really need to get in the work out room and get it clean. I think I have sweat so much on the rubber floor that is must have a thin layer of salt on it or something because when I am doing a step workout it is pretty slippery and it is not wet. It isn't always, so I think I need to mop:eek: So that will be room #1 and then we will see where I go from there!

Jo-I am embarrassed to admit the book I am reading but I will...Twilight. But it is really for a good cause. My 12 tr old niece wanted me to kind of have an impromptu book club with her. I think that these are the first books that she has really gotten interested in so I am encouraging her as much as possible. It is our thing that we are sharing. But I am ready for a grown up book again. I feel kind of silly reading about this 'teenage' romance. One thing I can say for sure though is that it is a QUICK read. When we are working I do not have alot of time for reading and I do miss it.
I got 4DS when it came out but we did not know about the rotations so this is my first one using them this way. Very fun.
You remind of my GF with the closet thing. She has a closet full with no room to add more. But she can take something from yrs ago and make it look like today. I am the opposite. If I put something that I have had for 5yrs I manage to make it look 10 yrs old.

Cendrine-How exciting. All new work out week. That is why I can not wait for Shock cardio. We will all be in the new work outs then. Right now doing the 4DS rotation is kind of new to me. I am looking forward to doing the bootcamp circuit. I am saving that for my circuit rotation.
Thank you for sticking with me about the juice! I am a horrible creature of habit so it always takes me a while to work up to a change. When I do though I put everything into it. So I am trying to prepare myself. Yesterday my MIL brought some fresh pears that are kind of hard so I thought that this is a sign for me to make the Juice! All of the ideas sound so good...It is just wrapping my brain around adding the greens. I like them so it can't taste bad to me, I wouldn't think.

Kim-You do seem stretched thin...Maybe it is all the wedding stuff this weekend that pushed you over the limit. That was a lot to add to an already busy day! It just seems like there might be very little wiggle room in your day! Of course with the hockey swim lessons and work and school and dinners and workouts...Well I can see how you might need a nap. Don't beat yourself up for being tired. We all get tired and I think you have a good reason.
The garage sale was a success for me anyway. I though it was a pretty puny sale but the beauty of that was pretty much everything sold. We had things that were apparently hot garage sale items right now...Like tools and sheets and blankets and I had a lot of fall decorations that I did not want anymore...one more thing to clean around:p So we made about 300 dollars which is not bad for setting there for about half the day.

It is going to be a beautiful day today so I am going to open the windows turn up the radio and enjoy the fresh air!!!

I hope your work outs kicked your butts...in a good way...Have a great day!
Rachel

Good Morning All!
Quick post this morning! I slept way too late so only got in the first 25 minutes of KPC. (whah!) That's okay though I'll go home and walk on the treadmill tonight for a little bit.

Rachel, I read the ENTIRE Twilight series last year and loved it! So don't feel weird about it! I think it's great you're reading with your niece! There's a number of us here at my office that all read it together! We all really enjoyed it - you just have to keep in context who the target audience is! I've also read the Harry Potter books! I'll read anything! LOL! Okay, I'll BBL!

My friend has the entire set of Harry Potter and I thought about that too. But I guess I have to get through the Twilight series first. Not that I do not think it is good...It is just weird getting into these characters. I have not seen the movies thank goodness or I would be picturing those people probably.
I think I want something like Wuthering Heights after this. I have not read that before. Or Sense and Sensibility. We will see.
I bought the first Outlander book but have not started it yet. I know it is a big series and I don't want to start it and then work start up and then not get through it.
Have you ever read The Witching Hour by Anne Rice or the Vampire Chronicles ..ie. Interview with a Vampire and the many that follow?

I am cleaning the house and right now taking a break. i started out at full speed and now am feeling like I want to quit so I thought I will take a break and then finish strong as Cathe would say. I only have my bathroom and the kitchen left. They are the ones in most need so I thought I would do the things I don't normally do so that I knew they would get done and then do the things I can not go without doing last . This way I was sure I would not skimp out on anything.

OK now I am just stalling so I better get to it!
I also have a Halloween costume to make...
The party is this saturday...

Rachel

Rachel, YES I've read The Witching Hour and all the Vampire Chronicles. Anne Rice is a brilliant writer as is Diana Gabaldon (Outlander). The Witching Hour is probably my favorite of Anne Rice's but really loved the Vampire books as well. Outlander and The Witching Hour were both books "I couldn't put down!" Have you read them or just investigating reading them? I read Witching Hour when were were hiking in Colorado. Everytime we stopped I pulled it out to read....DH was very frustrated with me! :p

Hope you enjoy your beautiful day!

I read all the Witch series and The Vampire series...It has been years on both but I loved them.
There was another set of books by Alice Borchardt <--I think I might have misspelled that. But it was about shape shifters. One of them might have been called She Wolf. I can't really remember but they were also good. You are right so many books so little time. I am such a slow reader too. I read in my head like I would out loud..Terrible.

I did get my house clean. I am so dull...:D
Now I am going to try that chicken chili recipe. I am off!

Rachel

Rachel, are you kidding me???? No Kale in TX??! What's up with that? Let me know how your chicken chili turns out!

I read every word...not a skimmer...is that what you mean by reading in your head? I am a medium speed reader I guess but I feel I've cheated if I skip any words! (Is that obsessive compulsive?) I feel to fully digest a story I don't want to miss a single word, sentence or detail!

Oh Jo
I am sure that there is Kale in TX..maybe a more progressive city like Dallas or Austin;):p:D...Just none in my little neck of the woods.

I am definitely not a skimmer. I feel cheated too. It would be like doing a Cathe workout and skipping to the Blasts every time! You would miss out on a lot of good stuff then.

So far I have browned the chick, roasted and peeled the peppers, sauted the onions and garlic (also put it every thing Jo) added the chick back in with cumin and some smoked paprika and am no simmering until chick is done. Next step is to remove chick from bone (leg quarters) then add back with peppers beans and thicken sauce and let simmer a while. I think!;)

So let me go see how its goin

Rachel

Boy you guys were busy here since I last checked in!

I accidentally and completely unintentionally fell asleep after my alarm went off and I overslept big time! So instead of doing the whole DM I ended up doing the total body premix. I was super groggy and I'm doing it thinking, how did I ever do the whole thing? As you can tell, not an energetic day here at all! I hope tomorrow is better because I indend on doing Step fit and enjoying it too!

Reading: if I am reading for pleasure I never skip a single word! I savour every single word and it is still over way too fast! Right there with you guys!

Right now I am reading Jillian Michaels' Master your metabolism. I got it for free, otherwise I would not have bought it. But I enjoy reading anything, even if it is not fiction...LOL!

Oh, Kim, I meant to thank you for the summary! I hope you get some good time to relax and I hope you can get done with your CLX so you can get back into Cathe workouts with us too!
I'm reading Mr Poppers penguins to ds, which is really cute!

Jo, your juicing experiments sound awesome! I wish I could come and be a taster in your house! How cool that your family enjoyed it too!

Rachel, I'm amazed that you made so much money at your garage sale! that is great! we are too lazy here, we just call the salvation army truck every 6 months... We could have made some money if we just weren't so lazy...LOL!

As far as the closet goes, I have a lot of maybes in my closet, too! Sometimes I stand there and I say: I have a closet full of nothing to wear! Isn't that sad? You guys ever feel the same?

Ok, gotta go. Catch up with you all later.

Cendrine I can completely relate...Everytime the season changes I feel like I have a closet full of nothing. Right now I am in my ...I want some new cute sweat shirts stage...Is there such a thing as a cute sweat shirt?

I probably have been on here way too much today but thats ok. I got the house work done so I can justify a little girl talk...:D

OK I am off to shower and plan what I need to get done tomorrow...Have a great night!

Rachel

Hi Girls! Quick post. I did Disc 17 legs for 2nd time today...love it love it love it!

It's very foggy here today and really feels winterish! I'm looking forward to going to CA this weekend for some warmer weather!
