6 Month Alumni -Week of Nov 8

Hi Eveyone!

well, I did Low Max today since I skipped it on Saturday.... Nothing easy about it, that's for sure!

I love LIS! I love both step workouts from 4DS a lot! They are fun and creative, even the blasts!

Legoland was fun for the kids, some more hands on stuff than just rides but to be honest, I would not go there for full price, we got to go at a 60% discount for being homeschoolers....:D

I meant to comment yesterday, Jo, I like my warm sheets in the morning as well, I'm glad I'm not the only one having a tougher time bouncing out of bed for workouts in this season change...LOL!

OK guys...away we go!
My sister had her baby today. I think there is a visitors list and I am pretty sure I am not on this one! I was going to stay away this time any way and just kind of ride the wave to see what happens. This is such a double edged sword. I really don't like it. So far all I know is that it is a boy and he weighed 7lbs 13 oz.
So I will fill yall in as I get filled in. I have spies everywhere so I am sure I will hear bits and pieces. It is hard to hide things in a small town.

I am not sure what I am going to do for a work out tomorrow. I am undecided and I am kind of playing it by ear on this light week so it maybe a good yoga and stretch and some abs...who knows!

Jo-We live in a forest too. We are off of a rural road about a 10th of a mile and e are surrounded by mainly oak trees but we do have some cedar and dogwoods. Lots of others that I am not sure what they are called.
Step Jam is one of the ones I ordered so you have made me very excited.

Cendrine-I ordered Low Max too because I always heard how tough it was but I feel like I will like it.

Kim-I hope you are not freezing up there! Where are ya! How is Insanity so far?

OK I am off to shower and get comfortable!

Rachel

Started week 3 of Insanity with doing the Fit Test. After a warmup and stretch there are 8 exercises in which you do as many reps as you can in 1 min. This is done every 2 weeks as a way of tracking progress. I got a few more reps on every exercise! And I didn't feel like I was going to be sick until after the workout was over. So happy to see the improvement.

Tomorrow is Remembrance Day which is a statuatory holiday here so no work or school! Things are very closed up but a couple of years ago they started letting the stores open for a few hours. Looking forward to sleeping in.

Just got to tell you you one more exciting thing. A patient that has been coming to our department (sees a different therapist) twice a week after having a stroke, won the lottery $50 million dollars! It's the second largest lottery win in Canada. He was supposed to come in for therapy yesterday but didn't come in, LOL. We're all wondering if he will show up for his Thursday morning appointment.

Jo, yes you are very close to the Olympics. No chance of driving up for the day?? Very few trees here, as I'm on the prairies. We do have alot at the lake though. What did you think of TBL?? They never showed how Shay or Daniel were doing at home! It's too bad that Daniel's friend never stayed on track.:(

Rachael Congrats on being an aunt again! Glad he arrived safely. I sure hope everything stays calm. Any idea on who he will be going home with.

We actually don't have polar bears around here but lots of black bears which usually aren't dangerous. The polar bears are in the northern part of our province. (very far north, only accessible by air/train, no roads) They are very dangerous and really limit life up north. Churchill which is on the Hudson Bay, is quite the tourist spot for polar bear and whale watching. They get people flying in from all over the world to come see the polar bears. I've known quite a few people who have lived up there but they never stay many years as it's so isolating and you can't really be outside much. Yesterday, the polar bears were in the news again, where a young hunter was stuck on an ice floe with 3 polar bears when his snowmobile broke down and he had to shoot one of the bears. He was rescued by boat. Our hospital treats many of the Inuit (Eskimo) people from up north and it's always fascinating to hear their stories. It's a very different life up there. I would love to visit one day but only for a few days, LOL.

cendrine The girls always seem easier to shop for. We got a Wii for Christmas last year and we had so much fun on Christmas day. We even had DH's Grandma up bowling. LOL It is a good family activity. My sister went on a family trip to California a couple of years ago and her ds loved Legoland!

Okay just another couple of things before I head to bed.

I was watching CSI Miami last night and they got attacked by a grizzly bear in Miami. We were talking about this at work today, are there grizzly bears in Miami?? Doesn't seem right to me but seems weird that they would put that in the show if there wasn't.

Got the new John Grisham book from the library, The Associate? Has anyone read it? Going to stay up late reading it and then sleep in. I was reading James Michener (?sp) "Hawaii" but just couldn't get into it. His books are quite the epic novels, anyone read those books.

Sorry I'm chatty tonight.

Quick note as I have to get to bed!

Kim, Daniel and Shay were both on the Jay Leno show. Daniel has lost 230 lbs total and looks amazing! Shay has lost 150! She looks great also but obviously still has a ways to go! Her attitude is great and so is Daniels!

Shay said she works out 4 hours a day during the week after work and 7 hours on the weekend for a total of 6 days a week! She works with a different trainer every day. For example, one trainer is a basketball coach so does drills with her, etc. So everyday she has a different type of workout. She really looked good!

I was heartbroken when they showed David! He looks even bigger than he was originally. I hope Daniel is eventually able to help him! I'm so proud of Daniel and Shay! More tomorrow.... Also, I'm so glad Shay set a record!!!

Good morning gals!!!
I have a lot of extra time this morning since I did a really short yoga session. The sad thing is I don't have any thing to say.
I can not wait till this week is over and we get to start our rotation. But we still want to hear about Insanity, Kim.

I guess no news is good news on the baby front. I hope that it means no drama is going on but some how I doubt that. Some times I look at my family and I wonder if I got switched at birth:confused::D. I like a more easy going life and they seem to live for chaos. Oh well. I will keep you updated as things play out...It helps me to vent it out. Maybe also get perspective from the outside.

Kim-Have you ever heard the expression 'Jumping the Shark'? Well if so, I think that might have been the case with a grizzly in Miami! (it comes from and episode of Happy Days when the Fonz jumped a shark on his surf board, people say that was the start of the downhill spiral of that show)
It is too bad to hear about the hunter having to kill the polar bear. All we hear about down here is the plight of the polar bear. How they are losing all the ice and losing their habitat therefore on their way to being extinct in the wild.
How exciting to know the man who won the lotto. What a great thing to happen to someone who sounds like they might have had a tough time of it!
I hope you got to sleep in and have a wonderful day off!!!

Jo and Cendrine, I hope you have a great workout and a great day!

Rachel

Finished an extra hard Insanity workout. Goodness, I sweat more with these workouts than with anything else. I'm just soaked. DH is keeping up with me! CLX, I enjoyed for a change but I probably wouldn't ever do another rotation. Insanity I could see doing a rotation once a year. It's only 60 days and is very intense. If you did the rotation too often I could see burning out. But definitely would be good for an occasional change, I will probably use the rotation again.

Do you think we will ever get an update on Shock Cardio? Cathe doesn't seem to keep us in the loop as much as she used too. The same with the roadtrips, as she announced the 4? locations and possible other locations, I've been waiting to see if Minneapolis is confirmed. She said she would do that within a month and that was months ago.

Jo That's good to hear that Shay and Daniel are doing well. At least David has a good resource for when it's ready to lose weight. I have a feeling that we will miss the finale while at Disney:( I know I miss last years finale while we were on vacation at the same time.

Rachael DH looked it up and there are no grizzlys in Florida as we thought just very weird that they would do that. I remember the shark episode of Happy Days:rolleyes:

Hi Guys,

I did a premix from LIC today because I didn't feel like doing the whole thing....:( I have had to talk myself into working out the last two weeks... I'm always glad when I did it but I don't seem to feel quite as energetic, so I decided while working out today that I am going to take the rest of the week off in order to hopefully be ready to start again full of energy on Monday with you guys!

Kim, awesome job on already seeing improvements doing Insanity, that must be so motivating! I can totally believe that you sweat more than in any other workout, I know I would! LOL! You think you might get a little hand out from your patient turned mulitmillionaire? Would be nice wouldn't it? It always happens to other people... sigh:rolleyes:

Rachel, how do you feel about knowing your sister had a baby and you have to stay away? I'm trying to imagine what I would feel and I guess it would all depend on my relationship with the relatives. I imagine though, that you would love to play out your role as an aunt, since I know you would be a good one! I hope you are holding up well through all of this and I also hope you don't run into any more heartache for yourself.

Jo, how's it going up there for you? Still rainy? I hope not!

Hi Everyone! The sun came out today but it is only 48. A little chilly...we're only have a slight break and it will start raining again tonight.

I took today as a rest day. I was going to do PUB and then ended up sleeping until 8:00 so figured I needed it! I'll shoot to do PUB tomorrow!

Kim, I had to laugh over your Fit Test and not feeling sick until the workout was over! My goodness, I know that's not a good feeling but feeling sick after instead of during is improvement! Only us workout girls would appreciate that comment! (Of course our TBL people would too!) How cool about your lottery winner!!! I agree with you on feeling we're getting less info on STS Shock Cardio - I was wondering if it was just me thinking Cathe's been light on the updates!

Rachel, I'm thinking about you and sending you good vibes regarding your family situation! Interesting comment about the chaos. There are people that just thrive on drama and chaos! I'm with you though, I like easy going! Oh by the way, have you heard if your workouts shipped? Do you have enough to get started next week? If you don't have them, we can still wait a few days - no problem for me - I'm open to whatever (see easy going! LOL!)

Cendrine, yes, good idea to take a break! As we told Rachel, it does a body good! And you'll come back really refreshed! It's awful when you feel you're forcing your way through your workouts! They'll be there waiting for you!

Okay, so I haven't talked to you guys about this, but I'm having a bijillion hot flashes. They've gotten really bad the last three months where sometimes I'm having 25 a day (I think that's a lot). Anyway, I just got back from the Dr having my blood drawn so they can check my hormone levels. I'm having to make sure and wear layers (no heavy sweaters) as I have to get my jacket or whatever off quickly when they strike. They usually last about 5 minutes. Anyway, I haven't talked about them as I was hoping they'd go away but they're making me crazy. And when I get one when I'm doing cardio, I have to stop as the heat and sweat is overwhelming! (It's kind a funny really!). Anyway, there you are..I'm now a hot, flashy, girl!

Hot, flashy girl....LOL! I wouldn't mind feeling warmer than I am, but please without the hormonal mess it usually comes with....
Seriously, though, Jo, I'm sorry you have to go through this. 25 does seem like a lot! I hope they will be able to tell you something helpful from the results of your tests! I guess with 48degrees outside, it is not so bad to have it now rather than when you guys had the heatwave this past summer! I do hope and keep my fingers crossed that this is going to ease up and you return back to normal!

For all it's worth, black beans and flax seeds are supposed to help reduce hotflashes, I read. I have no idea if it works...

Jo you are the most positive person I think I will ever know. I love it!!!
If black beans and flax seed prevent or help with hot flashes then I should never get them because I live on black beans and have flax every day!

I just wanted to report that my dvds are supposed to be here today and I can not contain myself!!! I just can not wait to start a rotation with everyone. I think the last time when we did sts I was a little off from everyone so it will be nice to start at the same time!!!

Today I decided to take the day totally off. No yoga (even though that feels like a day off), no stretching or light cardio or anything. I am going to have so much energy by Monday I will be bursting at the seams! I hope it works for you too Cendrine. I really think it is doing me a world of good. I used to be afraid that if I took time off that I would not return but I figured out that I love it too much for that!

Last night my brother and his family came over to deliver the smoked turkey that I ordered from my niece. It was a band booster thing...I am going to have to figure out what I am going to do with it now. I bet it would make a delicious soup!
DH had so much fun making our nephew chase the little laser pointer pen. We use it for the cat all the time but had never tried it on an almost 3 yr old. This was the funniest thing ever. He would chase it and then dh would make it disappear when he thought he caught it and he would yell 'I got it I got it'! We just laughed and laughed. We told him it was a doodle bug.

As far as the baby situation goes...It really sucks. I am hoping for a miracle but we will just have to set on the sidelines and see. I think even dh would like to see him but we just have to stay back right now. But he is healthy and has a head full of black hair!

OK since I got up at five but did not work out I have not eaten so I am about to eat my arm... Have a great day !!!!

Rachel

Good Morning!

Another quick post for me as I'm off to a meeting....

I did PUB up premix this morning as that's all I had time for. That workout is so hard to do without any RESTS! Scheesch! I felt like a weiny today! LOL!

Thanks Rachel for thinking I'm positive...I feel life works better for me with a glass half full! I'm so excited for you that the workouts are coming! Oh BOY! Now you'll have some time to review some of them before we do them! (errr...do you do that?) I alway preview the cardio, even if it's just a quickie fast forward.

Cendrine, yep, I'm all over the beans and flax! I don't have black beans everyday (though I have this week) but have some bean every day. I put flax on my oatmeal which I have every day.

Hello Kim!!!

Okay, I get to get going! I'll BBL when I have more time.

Hi All,

I got up regular time even though I wasn't planning on working out. So I got some nice reading time in bed before the kids got up. It was nice and felt too short...LOL!

Rachel, that lazer pen works on 6 and 7 year olds as well ! LOL! We got it for the cat a long time ago and discovered it's great for kids too! How funny!
I love smoked turkey! I'm sure soup would taste great! I love paninis as well with turkey in it!

I made a recipe from the same place I get my green smoothie recipes from yesterday. It was called raw alfredo sauce. The ingredients were pine nuts, soaked macadamia nuts, garlic, lemonjuice, salt, pepper and water. Blend the whole thing until smooth and I served it with whole weat pasta, spinach and tomatoes. It was amazing how good it tasted! I never cease to be amazed by trying out crazy sounding recipes!LOL ! And it's so much fun!

Cendrine YOu have to share the recipe site...I love crazy recipes too.

Well I got home right as the UPS man was pulling out and I am all set to go for this next week. I will start on MONDAY!!!! yippee. I am just over the moon excited. I am tempted to do something tomorrow! I am going to take a quick look at the rotation and see if I can maybe do one of the ones that is not on for next week. Maybe low max since I have done part of that before off of fittv so I won't be totally lost. YES Jo I have to do a little prewatching on the cardio's or else I am afraid I might be totally lost!

OK so I do think I will do Low Max tomorrow and then take the weekend totally off and then jump full gear into the rotation on Monday. I think I am going to try to do clean eating until Thanksgiving too. I am pretty clean now but everyday dh gets a white chocolate kitkat and he gives me a stick:eek:. So I think I will stop that for a while...It is becoming habit!

Kim-They finally had the story of the hunter on the news down here. It was kind of sad that it was a mother polar bear and the other 2 were her cubs. I just hated to hear that!
As far as the updates go...I have really quit checking. It seems she might have gotten overwhelmed with the eggland's best tours and shock cardio and the road trips.

Cendrine- Are you enjoying the day off from working out? I really am getting ready now for Monday. I think now I will go on through till Christmas and then if shock cardio gets here I will take a short break and then delve into that with all of yall.

Jo-I am not having black beans everyday either but I do the flax and wheat germ on the oatmeal everyday too! PUB is a tough workout. I think I have only done that one twice since I got it. But I do love it and look forward to that bicep burn!

OK I am off to have some dinner.

Rachel

Rachel, yay for you that UPS came by. How is it that you get your order before me and I know I ordered a day before you.... California is not that much farther than Texas last time I checked....LOL!
Enjoy the previewing! So much fun!
You know, the website is www.greensmoothiegirl.com there are a few pages of u-tube clips of her doing some of her crazy stuff but she doesn't give measurements. I've tried some stuff just by eyeballing it but I did order some of her recipe collections. They are not that expensive and you get them in pdf format by email, so you get it really fast. If any of the ones I've tried interest you, just let me know and I'll type it up for you!
Good job on trying to get cleaner than you already are! I have quite unexpectedly turned squeaky clean ever since starting the green smoothies. I thought I would just do the smoothies, but it really carries over into my whole day and I just make clean choices all day, which is fun because it's not like I'm on a program and have to, it just turns out that way spontaneously. Of course it helps that I don't buy anything 'unclean'. if it's not in the house, I'm very unlikely to go out and get it because I'm too darn lazy, which in this case is a good thing....LOL!

Hi Everyone! Sorry I couldn't get back. Long day, lots going on, and we had to make a Costco run tonight. And, I have another early meeting tomorrow so need to get to bed!

Rachel - YEAH on getting the workouts! I'm thrilled for you and am looking forward to us all getting started on a rotation together next week!

Cendrine, I am fascinated by your recipes! The raw alfredo sauce sounds so interesting!!! Yum! I'm starting a new book and am really wanting to get some dedicated reading time this weekend!

Okay, two quick updates: it's supposed to snow here tomorrow (light snow - I told you it's been getting cold! Remember Rachel, you wanted me to tell you when we were going to get our first snow!) And...I talked to my Dr tonight and I am in full blown menopause (I figured as much!)

More tomorrow...

OK I am officially a fan of taking some time off and getting new dvds afterward:D. I did Low Max today and it was hard but so much fun too. I think if I had not had the time off I would not have been able to get DOWN. If you know what I mean! It is a great workout. I have heard yall all say that and I am glad I got it too even though it is not in this months rotation. It is the only one that I got the isn't and I am very happy with that one!

I will be doing some much needed preview this weekend for next week so I can get into the groove with yall. I think this is going to be a lot of fun. It will be like our own buddy system!

Jo-I think that they make menopause sound dreadful but that is because they are just now really finding ways to help your body cope with the hormonal switch. Instead of diagnosing everyone the same they are starting to look at every one as individuals and I think it is great! Keep us posted please and don't hesitate to share anything!
Thanks for the heads up on the snow. I just love it but we never get it here and when we do every thing shuts down!!!

Cendrine-Have you noticed any difference in how your body feels and looks with all your clean eating? I wish I could be as well balanced as you. It is hard because I have to pack a lunch and I have a hard time getting a lot of variety in there. Then when I get home it is late so I have try to have a lot prepared and it the freezer. That has helped me a lot with no snacking. I know that all I have to do is look in the freezer and there is something nutritious for me.

OK I have to go running late from Low Max!!!
Have a great day

HEY KIM!!

Rachel

Rachel, I'm glad you liked Low Max! It is so much fun!

Regarding the menopause - in all honesty, it's not dreadful. I'm having the hot flashes...and I get real sweaty but not beady sweaty (a couples times beady but not drippy!) and I don't turn red. But, I get misearbly hot and I've been tracking them - some days I have them every 30-45 minutes. Then like yesterday I only had 10. So I'm probably going to go on a light estrogen to control them. Other than that, I'm not having any other weird symptoms; in fact I feel pretty darn great! Oh and I do wake up hot, but I'm not really having the night sweats people talk about. I wake up, throw the covers off then a couple of minutes later throw them back on. But I think that it also helps that I lead an overall healthy lifestyle. Other women I know that are having tons of menopausal problems don't eat like I do, maintain their weight, etc. So on these cold days, my hot flashes are like a little touch of summer!:eek::D

BBL

:D:D Did you all see the update! SNM is saying that we will have Shock Cardio by Christmas!!!:D:D Canadian orders always take a few days extra but I should have them by the New Year. Should we plan our start date for Jan 3rd (sunday) or 4th??

I can't believe that I have gained 3 lbs since starting Insanity:mad: How frustrating. I have to admit I'm not the cleanest eater and I think I eat too much. I think with the New Year I have to do some reading and learning about eating cleaner and maybe do some calorie tracking. Over the years I've always been so into fitness and I just generally eat well ( lean meats, fruits/veggies, whole wheat grains but then allow myself treats) but I think I need to delve deeper into the subject. I'm sure you ladies will be a great resource! Right now with our Disney trip and Christmas I don't really have time to spend on it.

Cendrine I think that it's smart taking the rest of the week off. We all need that sometime. Most years I have a month or two where I don't workout much for some reason or other. Like when I trained/ran a marathon in late June. Then I just did fun stuff for the month of July. This year I"ve worked out 6 days/ week most of the year and I am feeling it. I think having all the new workouts STS/CLX/Insanity just kept me going this year. Maybe after the November rotation you should take a few weeks off around Christmas before we start our STS rotation.

Rachael What did you decide to do with the turkey?? I can't believe they had the polar bear incident on your news.:cool:That's kind of neat. Polar bears are vicious, it's a good thing that young boy had a gun with him. I had a patient yesterday from Churchill. He was from New Zealand working in the harbour in Churchill (kind of weird but he had a great accent). He said they had 22 polar bears locked in the "jail" right now that had wandered into town. The bears get tranquilized and relocated.

Hot Flashy Girl (can we call you that from now on??);) Hope the estrogen helps. Do you mind if I asked how old you are?? No hot flashes for me yet but many of the ladies at work complain about them. I'm always too hot and they tease me about how I will cope with hot flashes as I already complain that they keep the gym too hot. So snow coming for you. Is this usual temperatures for this time of year? We're still above seasonal norms which we're all enjoying.

Just FYI, the $50 million lottery winner didn't show up for his therapy yesterday. :rolleyes:Although I heard he phoned his therapist later in the day so don't know what his plan is. He said on the news that he plans to continue with his rehab and to learn to walk without a cane. He had a stroke at age ?40, a few months ago. But his wife was driving him to the city for therapy twice a week ( a 90 minute drive ) so maybe he will pay for a private therapist to come to his home. My friend who is his therapist said that he loved to cook but had lost most of the use of his one hand She had arranged for some adaptive tools for the kitchen but they were on hold at the store while they tried to get some funding for the items. So I guess he can buy them now.:D We all had very strict instructions from our manager about not approaching them and treating them normally (not that we would have asked them for money). We're just all very excited for them. I've never actually talked to them but we all work in a large gym and recognized them when I saw them on the news. As a therapist it would be fun to be able to be able to recommend all the things that would help make their home accessible that so many people can't afford.
