6 month alumni-week of Nov 15

Good morning good morning!!!

Oh Jo I feel for you and you winter already starting. Although I do wish we could see a little winter around here. This morning I saw a blip on the news about the snow up your way and I thought it is probably going to be a great day for reading;)

So far I have gotten 1/3 of my weekend list done...No x-mas shopping yet and at this point I do not think it is going to happen. I think I am going to get lucky on my niece (my only niece so my favorite), she is 12 and I think she would much prefer cash! I remember when I was her age and I got clothes or something that I would never wear..., so I think I will let her decide what she wants! Then all my nephews are young so they are easy...Any thing that rolls electronically.

I am so excited to do this rotation. Yesterday i did push/pull, which although I thought was a pretty easy full body workout compared to some of the more intense ones, I found it had some fun moves that worked...The fonz back move I am feeling all the way down my spine today. I am glad that one was kind of easy though because I have to do Power Hour tomorrow so it would not be very beneficial to start that one already sore. I am looking forward to DOMS though because I have not had them that much while doing the circuit rotation that I was doing. So November rotation here we come!

Cendrine- Your Thanksgiving menu sounds great! Mine is still up in the air. There has been some tension in my family on both dh and my side so I am still not exactly sure what is going to go down! So I am planning a meal for dh and I and maybe my FIL. If I do cook I will do a turkey breast also because I already have a whole smoked turkey and I definitely do not need a whole roasted one! Down here we do a cornbread dressing, not really a stuffing, and I love it so I will make it. It is definitely not lean but it is Thanksgiving! I am the only one who eats sweet potatoes so it does not matter how I prepare them and I am interested in you coconut cardamom recipe...it sounds yummy! I am sure I will do green beans. Maybe a green bean and mushroom saute since that is a quick side and then I found a mashed potatoe casserole that can be prepped ahead of time. Then gravy of course. Then most likely a pumpkin pie since that is what DH requested. I thought about making something else too but then that would just be more around here for me to eat and I want to avoid that with all the rich food already on the menu! But thinking about all the possibilities makes my mouth water. I love to bake but never do because of the danger that follows:eek::rolleyes:
How is DS? I hope his fever stayed away!

Jo-Well were you doing a winter clean or what? It is a weird thing but when the weather changes here to no matter what season I always want to get the house totally clean...That is why I scrubbed on the outside of it yesterday! The weather was in the high 70's and I did not think I would have too many more days like that where I would not catch pneumonia if I got soaked. So today I am going to try to get the inside at least straightened but I want to get my coffee table sanded and refinished today too. So did you start power hour today!!!? I am looking so forward to this month!

Kim-Well my MIL did not have to have cast this time. It was the bone on the outside of her foot which the dr told her was a very common break. She is 49 and about 2 yrs ago she was getting out of her car at the post office and her foot was tangled in her purse strap and when she went to get out of the car her foot caught and her ankle broke. It is hard to explain how it happened it is one of those freak things. Well then she had to have surgery and it was really bad. The dr told her she was too young to be breaking all of these bones so that is when they did the tests for osteoporosis, I guess. She said that brittle bones run in her family but she did not put the 2 together until this second break.
So when is your holiday? I though for some reason that it was at the beginning of January but I am glad you are going to start the rotation with us then.

OK I am off to stat some laundry before I get started on my coffee table.
Jo stay WARM! I try to send some TX heat!:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Have a great day!

Rachel

Good morning, ladies. I hope you're all still enjoying the weekend. I just can't believe how time flies, ya know? Seems like we just started school and now we're less than 2 weeks from T-Day. Incredible, isn't it???

The weather here today is supposed to be in the high 60s! I'm so confused as to how to dress anymore. One day it's 30 and raining, the next 2 days it's overcast cold with HIGH winds, and today it's sunny and warm? What gives with the atmosphere and ozone these days? :D

I'm still on the fence on what to do starting tomorrow. I'm very VERY seriously thinking of doing the Nov rotation with you guys, at least for the first week or 2. Originally, my plan was to finish this 12 week round of BFL (which ended TODAY, btw), then going to circuits and cardio for a full week, then perhaps another week away from heavy weights using maybe full body wo's or something similar, then returning to the heavy weights again for the last 4 weeks leading up to Christmas. TOO MANY CHOICES! :D I'll figure it out; I have to decide by tonight so I can print off my journal pages for the coming week.

Thanksgiving.......for us, it will be just me with my kids, and my parents. My older sis and her fam are going to younger sis's in N Carolina, and I'm running a Pumpkin Pie 5K in town that morning. I was planning on doing a turkey breast, like you Rachel, but I 'earned' enough points at the grocery store for a free whole turkey so I may as well use that. Sides will consist of baked sweet potatoes, some fried potato cubes (my kids eat these, they don't like mashed pot's), steamed veggies (carrots and broccoli, most likely), some dinner rolls, and then dad and I will have our turkey breast on salad greens. So I'm not concerned at all about the food and its 'cleanliness'. HOWEVER, there's dessert which is a pecan pie and the usual pumpkin pie (I can resist the pumpkin, it's the pecan I will have a battle staying away from, lol).

ANYWAY................sorry to ramble on my first full weekend returning to you fine ladies.

So tell me, are all FOUR of you doing the November rotation???

Gayle

Cendrine Glad your ds is feeling better!

Not much exciting here this weekend. Keeping us with Insanity. Two weeks till holidays:D:D

The most exciting thing (well the kids thought so) was that on the way to ds's hockey game yesterday, I got stopped by the RCMP and given a ticket:rolleyes: A $190 ticket:mad::mad:. I was pulling off a small gravel road onto a highway with no one around for miles (I'm on the praires, you can see for miles;)) and so I guess I didn't fully stop. The RCMP was going the opposite direction on the divided highway and did a u-turn just to stop me. It seemed very over the top to me but he was very grumpy so I didn't argue just took the ticket and smiled. I haven't had a ticket since I was a teenager:rolleyes: DD was with me and couldn't wait to tell her dad and brother.

Rachael Yes, it's 2 weeks today that we leave on holidays. Which is one of the reasons I'll skip doing the November rotation although I'm tempted because I'll be gone the second half.

Gayle Congrats of finishing your BFL round. I'm currently doing a round of Insanity with my DH and then we're going down to Florida for vacation so no November rotation for me. But I plan to do the STS rotation with the other 3 ladies once the new workouts arrive!
Kim

Kim, so sorry about your ticket! I have been lucky so far, dh calls them california stops... I do them a lot, when I think noone is there to ticket me:eek:
Sorry about the money, too, I bet you and me both would know better ways we would like to spend it...
Ds is still doing well and I am so relieved it didn't turn into anything worse! Dh went to get his allergy shot and ds tagged along. His allergist said he had 10 doses of the H1N1 vaccine so dh opted to get it for ds. No side effects I can tell of.

Not much to tell here either. I'm mentally getting ready to start the November rotation, which should be fun since we're doing it a few of us!

Oh we are going to so Rock this rotation!!!!
I am so geared up I just about started today! But I got a lot of stuff done so I am really happy with that! My coffee table is drying as I type! Oh I just do not know what has gotten into me these last two weekends...I feel so accomplished.:D

OK I think dh and I are going to relax and watch some tv!

I hope you all had a great day!

Rachel

Oh oops Kim I am so sorry about the ticket! I have been lucky to get off with warnings in the past. Dh got one for going to fast in a school zone but it was kind of a bum deal because he was through it and then it started flashing...Oh well though.

Gayle you should join us for the rotation. The more the merrier!

Ok bye for now!

Hi Everyone! Sorry I was MIA today - I had tons going on and so will get caught up with everyone tomorrow.

I hope you'll all forgive me, but I did start the rotation today. I was going to wait until tomorrow...but I JUST CAN'T!! I always start my rotations on Sundays and can't get my brain around starting on Monday! (Crazy I know!) I also started my hormone pills today (again got them the other day, but I waited to start on Sunday - that's the way it used to be with birth control pills so it's easier this way).

Anyway, I got tons done this weekend with cleaning, company and we went to the Seattle car show today. Again, I'll get caught on on responses tomorrow; need to get to bed. Hope you all had a great weekend!

Oh and I LOVED doing Power Hour today! It was a killer! Can't wait to hear how you all do with it tomorrow. I'm so glad and excited we're doing this rotation together! You have no idea how motivating that is for me!!!!

Jo it is OK that you started on Sunday...I HAVE to start on Monday so I know how you feel!!!

Well of course today was PH and I loved it...I was even doing more weight than Cathe for most of it. With shoulders and tri's I stayed pretty much the same as she did but everything else, I was up! I was sweating like I was doing full fledge cardio. I think my favorite parts of any full body work out is the chest and bi's. I think it is because I am strong in those parts of my body and I did not used to be. I was such a weener along time ago...;)

Well it is the start of another week and it is raining. We finally got that cold front that is effecting everyone else! But it is nothing like yall up north. Our cold front consists of hi's in the low 60's or hi 50's , no snow here!

Jo-Stay Warm!!! What kept you so busy this weekend? How close are you to Seattle? Dh asked me the other day if I ever wanted to go there and I said well Heck yes! Maybe if that ever happens we can get together!

Cendrine How did you fair with PH? I felt that knowing all of us were doing it made me push a little harder...I know crazy huh!

Kim-Did your dh give you any flack over the ticket? I would have had to hear about it for a little bit. Esp. if it was something that I do often and he has warned me before that I would get a ticket:rolleyes:

OK I am off to kick work in its pants!

Have a great day...I have to come home and preview step works tonight:eek:

Rachel

AH! See? Now I'm jealous of you guys doing PH! lol Great job....that's one of my fave full-body WOs that Cathe has out. I hope you're all enjoying your day, and the DOMS that will sneak up on you! :p

I decided to do circuits and cardio all this week. I went back and forth on what to do, and in the end, I decided that this mix of 3 circuits, alternating days with all cardio/core, is exactly what I need for my goal over the next 2 weeks. So today I did HSTA....and my records show the last time I did this workout was 4/07! lol I looked at my log, thinking that it was soooooooo long ago and I'm so much stronger now, I can just increase all the weights. lol For the MOST part, that was fine (like leg presses, squats, etc), but for the 'smaller' things like tris, WOW! I got fried and worked up to a sweaty ol' mess!

Sorry to hit and run, DS is about to walk in the door from the bus!!! Make the rest of your day count!

Gayle

Hi Everyone!

Well, it was Step Works and Oh what fun! My legs were a little tired from PH yesterday so I was half tempted to lower my step after the 1st combo (I always do whatever Cathe does) but I didn't! Also, I didn't sleep real well last night - we had a wind storm blow through so it was really noisy all night with the trees blowing and hitting the house.

Rachel, the snow missed us by 10 miles! But it was a really cold weekend. I'm not sad about no snow yet as our hill is treacherous when it snows. We have a parking lot at the bottom of our hill for inclement weather and it stinks when I have to park down there and walk up! That's part of the reason I keep my 4WD SUV. Sounds like you were a busy girl with your coffee table and oh my gosh, you're poor MIL! I am only 17 miles from downtown Seattle. If you could ever come visit, I would come meet you whereever you are! SO COME VISIT!!!! But if you've never been here before, come in August or September as you have a higher chance of hitting good weather! LOL!

Gayle, so glad to have you back posting with us! I miss hearing about all your activities! You are still one of the busiest people I know! (Even if it is virtual! LOL!) Good job on HSTA! That is still one of my favorite circuits! The leg presses are killer!

Kim, I'm so sorry about your ticket! The RMCP must have been bored! Sometimes I just don't get it! He didn't need to do that to YOU! So you guys are getting geared up for vacation! Are the kids counting down the days?

Cendrine, did you get PH done today? How is ds anyway? Is he all better? This is bad I know, but we still don't know what we're doing for Thanksgiving...I don't know if I'm cooking or if we're going to my mom's in Oregon. Either way, we'll probably have a turkey breast, I have green beans I make and potatoes, sweet potatoes and salad. Oh, and DH has to have dressing. So we make all that traditional stuff, but I pretty much only eat the vegetables, sweet potatoes and turkey. Well...and I'll probably splurge on a piece of pumpkin pie.

Okay, lunch break is over...I'll check back later!

Hey Everyone!

Jo, I knew you wouldn't start on Monday, I just figured we would be on the same week different days. As Rachel said, I always start on a Monday so I know exactly what you meant! LOL!

I did get Power Hour done today. I worked up a sweat too, Rachel! I was shocked about the 15lb bicep curls and started heavier, but with her speed of singles I had to scale down very quickly....LOL! I'm sure I'll be feeling things tomorrow. I did ok on the legs, but lately every time I do lunges, I get a real burn in my calf, the one that goes back... Any suggestions? I figured the front leg should be the one hurting, but I could keep going in the front, it's the back calf that gets me. I am probably messing up my form, just can't figure out how.

Rachel, I wish you could come and sand down some of my old furniture as well! I hate doing it! Doesn't help that the stuff I would like to resurface has a lot of ornamental stuff that is hard to reach with sandpaper!

Gayle, it must feel great to lift so much heavier than you did last time you did the workout. Right now I am not feeling strong so I kind of am doing my standart weights for each body part rather than pushing it to where I know I was after STS. I will try to maintain my new strenght on my second round of STS.

Kim, I hope all is well with you!

Hello hello Well it is finally cold to us anyway:rolleyes:
Not too much new to report here...I reviewed Step Works and I think I will be rewinding. I went ahead and watched it pretty much all the way through so maybe I will pick it up a little quicker! It looks like a blast but I am a little slow on choreography but when I finally get it ...Watch Out!:D

So I will let yall know how that turns out tomorrow!

Jo- That is scary with the wind storm. We were woke up in the middle of the night too by a storm but it was more heavy rain than wind thank goodness. We have had the top of a tree in our house before so I get nervous with the wind. I had to smile about you having to walk up the driveway when it snows...Before we concreted ours we had to park at the end and walk down it. We have had so many people get stuck in our driveway it is not even funny. One car was up on two wheels:eek: I t was so bad. Of course we were lucky it was not straight up hill!

Cendrine-If it was not for the little sanding mouse I bought it would not have probably gotten done. That made it kind of fun for me anyhow! It is really a nice little power tool that was well worth the 40 bucks I paid for it! The sad thing was I think I bought that thing 3 years ago for this very reason and I am just now getting around to it:eek:
As far as the calf thing goes, I am not sure what could be causing that. Is it a burning pain or some other kind of pain?

Kim-How are you fairing up there? has the weather turned bad yet?

Gayle-How are the kiddos? Did you ever finish you bathroom remodeling project?

OK I think I am off to replay step works in my head :D Oh I hope I do well. No matter what I now I will burn some calories!

Rachel

Just a quick pop in to let yall know how I did!!!! I surprised myself! I only used the 6 inch step so I would be able to pay attention to the tv:eek: But I really did good. I thought I was going to be rewinding all morning and not really getting it but that on watch through really helped!

So I am off to work...I hope all is well with everyone! Have a great day!

Rachel

Good job, Rachel. I love Cathe's older step workouts....I might just have to pull one out for Thursday. Enjoy your day!

Hi to everybody else that will come after me!!!

My workout this AM was iTread 15, 60 minutes and Core Max 1. I logged 6.25 miles and felt WONDERFUL! I SO LOVE CARDIO!!!!!!!!!!!! :D:D:D:D:D

BBL sometime to chat and play!

Gayle

Hi Team!

Today was a screw-up!!! I just realized I did Meso 1/Disc 3 legs instead of Plyo legs! SCHEESCH!!!! Rachel and Cendrine, don't make the same mistake! Well I still had a good workout none the less! Maybe I could get some plyo in tomorrow with the walking...

Okay, off to the shower and work!

High fives, Rachel! I find that the Cathe workouts are never as hard as I thought they would be on a coordination level for me because she cues them so well. Today was my second go at Step Works, I pretty much had forgotten already how it went the first time, so it was kind of like a first again too... My memory is not very good when I have many new workouts in a short order....LOL!
I had a good time with it too! I love the fun of getting down a combination and then moving on to the next.
Jo, so sorry you did the wrong workout....could have been me! I'm not sure I'm looking forward to tomorrow.... I remember them tough, but they were also a bit shorter, so that will be nice!
Gayle, nice distance you put in today!
Kim, how's it going?

Great job Rachel and Cendrine! Isn't Step Works just so much fun?! :p

So I went back and looked at the rotation and Cathe said Plyo Week 1 and so I think the Week 1 is what tripped me up! Oh well!

Great job to you too Gayle! I forgot about the iTread workouts since none of us do those!

Kim, tonight TBL is makeover night! Make sure you watch!

We had another huge windstorm last night. 60 mph winds - the streets were a mess this morning with limbs and leaves. But alas, though another storm is coming in, we had an hour of sunshine! Okay back to work!

Oh how nice to have a little sunshine..Jo! It's the glass half full that I love so much!;)
I hate it that you got the wrong workout but I am glad you still got a good one in! I vaguely remember that one and I know it was a good one!

I am not quite stressing over Thanksgiving yet but I am sure it is coming. I keep telling DH to call his mom to let her know the plans but he is putting it off which is putting me off... I want to try to find some recipes that I can make the day before so I can concentrate on the little things on Thurs. We will see. Do you know what you are doing yet Jo?

Jo-I meant to also ask about those wind storms and all those trees...Are you uphill from them?

Cendrine- I know what you mean about the plyo work outs. They are hard for me too. When I put my heart rate monitor on before my work out starts, my heart rate is elevated a little just from apprehension. Then when I get into it it is never as bad as I think it is going to be and it also surprises me everytime because it is over before I know it.

Gayle-Way to go on all those miles...I am so not the runner. I think I just never got the right mind set when I used to do it. I think if I started again I would go at it differently. Instead of being about the speed I think I would start out with the way it felt. Trying to get into a pace...Oh well maybe it is in my future...Never rule anything out!

OK I am off to early bed. I am wiped out tonight!

Rachel

Just a quick catch up while I watch TBL. The makeover episode is always so much fun! Tonight we had an Insanity class, the whole family (all 4 of us) did the Insanity workout:D :D Good start to week 4!

Jo The windstorms sound scary. Hope there wasn't too much damage. How frustrating with the workout mixup, I'm sure you still had a great workout!

Rachael We're still having above normal temperatures here. +12C and sunny today. Usually we have snow and below zero by now so no complaining! Isn't it fun to do a new workout
Gayle Great run! How's the plantar fascitis?? Did you run the half marathon that you were training for??

Cendrine How are those biceps today? I feel lunges in the back of my calf (back leg) sometimes as well.

The kiddos are getting so wound up about the trip! I have Thursday and Friday off work so will try to get us organized and maybe start packing a little. The weather looks hot down there (80's, that's hot for Canadians;)) so will have to dig out everyone's shorts and maybe go buy one more suitcase.

Might not get a chance to check in tomorrow as I have a meeting at the school.
Kim

Hi Girls,

FIL just sent me a big box of persimmons from his yard, said he had a bumper crop this year... I haven't had persimmons since I was a kid. What would you guys do with them? Any yummy recipes or suggestions other than eating them as they are or making jam with them are welcome (If all else fails, I'll put them in my smoothies LOL!)

Jo I made a dinner tonight that I think you would love.

First marinate your favorite white fish in shallots, lemon juice and olive oil for an hour (cut in pieces)
Skewer fish, slices of red onion and cherry tomatoes on skewers
grill (I broil mine) for about min.
in the meantime blend 1 roasted bellpepper, 1 TBSp balsamic vinegar, 1 tsp honey, 1 tsp mustard and 1/2 tsp salt with 4 tbsp olive oil in blender
serve skewers on top of your favorite lettuce mix and drizzle with pepper sauce

It made me think of you so I thought I'd share.
While I'm in the sharing mode, Rachel, here's the sweet potato dish

5 Med sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1/3 inch pieces
3/4 cup light coconut milk
2 tsp cardamom ground
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp salt
1/8 tsp fresh pepper
1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
1/3 cup pecan halves chopped

Preheat oven to 325F. boil sweet potatoes until soft, about 10 min. drain and put in bowl. Add coconut milk, cardamom, vanilla, salt, pepper and cayenne to potatoes. Mix on medium speed until smooth. Transfer to 9x9 inch baking dish. Sprinkle pecans evenly oveer sweet potato mixture. Bake for 45 to 50 min.

Enjoy!

Kim, have fun packing! When's the big day? How fun that you all got to do Insanity together! What did the kids think?
