50 and Over : ~Worrying Wednesday~

Cathlete
Good Morning!

Why I am worrying is because we have to take one of our dogs into the vet this am to have all this bloodwork done.. he has some kind of kidney/bladder infection which is being treated with anti-biotics right now, but the vet wants to make sure there is not something more serious going on.. he is there all day today, and 1/2 day tomorrow. ;( . He can't have any food so both of them are looking at me like I have lost my mind because I haven't even given them a treat, let alone their breakfast that they have eaten by now! I can't feed one and not the other!

Today I did an I-Tread and the standing core work from the Slo-Mo workout. The excercises from this series seem to work, at least I feel them the next day, but I think you have to be real careful, as I am not sure how safe they are. Here is a link to the longer clip that really shows what she does...it's down a little and to the right on the screen.

S: apple & stringster cheese
D: Lean Cuisine or Smart Ones with extra vegs
S: Skinny Cow ice cream sandwich or WW ice cream bar

Linny:
I have watched All My Children for 30+ years! All those people that make fun of soap operas, and now all the night time shows are all soaps too! I agree with Garance.. you should see your ob/gyn. Regarding your hives from the summer, I was sitting next to a woman when I was getting my hair cut that was telling us that she breaks out in hives all over, with changes in temperture. If she goes from a warm room to a cool place she breaks out! sounded like when you were going to the lake and couln't go in the water.. her DR actually called it something, but I don't remember what she said..

Garance:
That pre-mix sounds great..good for a upper/lower split week. I was telling my DH your story about the cows passing their personality down to their offspring and he asked where your farm was? also, what university do you teach at? Good for you for getting those flats! Zappos is too easy to buy from:7

Josie:
Do you ever use I-Tread or Cardio Coach when you walk/run?

As for Thanksgiving, I cook for my whole family. We had 27 people last year! This year I think it will be around 20. It is not that bad because our tradition is everyone brings something and DH and I do the turkey, mashed potatoes, squash and the cheese &crackers etc. We do it buffet style and I set up a lot of tables in the living room for people to sit at. Crowded but fun!

Have a great day!

Deb;-)

ood Morning Deb and those to follow:
Deb: I hope your dog is given a clean bill of health. Poor doggies, I can just see them following you around wondering why they can't eat.I hope your appt is early a.m.
I use to be a very loyal fan of AMC but then I started working day shift and couldn't watch anymore:-( I do agree that shows at night are basically soaps geared towards the adult. My MD calls my condition Cold & Exercise Urticaria, thats induced by cold air, cold water or exercise. So basically any change in body temp I get hives.I've been on meds since July, and have helped alot but I do get the occasional breakout.I think I will have to see Gyno,I hate going there..Especially since I just had a Pap in June and there were no problems.
Garance: I'm going to have to buy some shoes now, you guys are getting me jealous with all your new shoe talk:)
Josie:Usually my DH and I stay home for Thanksgiving, and afew of our kids come over. My oldest son has been coming over the last few years but I don't think he or DGD will be coming due to the big fight he had with DH :( .I may have dinner at my house than ride to his house to have dessert.
Well today is my day off so I have lots of cleaning to do.I'll check in later.~Linny~

Happy Wednesday, All,

I'm typing slowly, which is still an improvement. Today is a week since my thumb surgery, which means I was allowed to remove the ginormous pack of gauze wrapped with an ace bandage for the first time. I can also take a shower without having to wrap the hand in a plastic bag and hold it above my head, woo-hoo! I still have stitches for another week, though, which means no weights for at least that long.

I saw the workers' comp doctor yesterday, and was released, so will start back on full days (Boo), but can do any cardio I want (Yay). I'm going to ease back into it a bit. Today, I'm only going to do a Classical Stretch tape.

Linny, can't help you with the menopause question. I've been through menopause, but had a hysterectomy when I was 28, so haven't had a period in many decades.

As for Thanksgiving, I'll probably work, but will probably go to my daughter's house or my sister-in-law's on the weekend. They usually manage to work around my crazy schedule. I always bring pies and a fruit salad. People always rave about my fruit salad, but I have 2 ridiculously easy tricks. Most people just quickly dump the fruit all together. I put in a little at a time, cover it with paper towels, then remove the paper towels before adding a little bit more. That keeps the fruit from becoming too soggy. I don't know why my relatives have no patience for that. Also, that way the fruit is dry enough that a dressing will adhere to it. My relatives just dump in some Cool Whip, but I keep telling them that if they would use 2/3 sour cream and 1/3 Cool Whip, the salad would taste much better because it's not too sweet. They always look at me like I have 2 heads when I say that, but they always scarf my version down.

Deb, I hope your doggie is home soon, safe, sound, and ready to eat!

Have a wonderful day,
Jen

Hi Deb, Linny, Jen, and Josie--

Today I did Kimberly Spreen's Cardio Camp, and stopped a tad early because I could tell my injured knee was not happy. So it was 47 minutes of cardio.

Ahh, Deb, so sorry to hear about your dog. Hope the vet has good news for you.

Gosh, it's really cold here today. Pulled out my winter coat and it felt good. Wearing my Clark's flats today. Very comfy.

I teach at Williams College in Williamstown, MA. It's the northwest corner of the state, very close to Vermont and Albany NY. Our farm is 135 acres, mostly woods, and extends up a mountainside to the Vermont line. My husband calls it East Mountain Farm on his business stationery and card.

Colloquia by my students this afternoon. The first one is on Kurosawa's female characters (he has some absolutely scary lethal villainesses) and the second on the portrayal of the artist in Ingmar Bergman's films. I am really looking forward to seeing what my students present.

You are right about the night time soaps. Watched Cane again last night. It's definitely an ongoing soap, but I really like it.

Any suggestions for a soup recipe that begins with a ham bone? Don't want to waste the last of that picnic ham.

DH does the turkey and gravy for Thanksgiving. I do everything else. My specialty is sweet potato pie for dessert.

Have a good day everyone!

Hi Ladies,

Today I will be spinning and abs.

Deb, I usually use Cardio Coach when I have to use the machines. When I run or walk with someone we just talk.

Garance, My friend Nicki always makes a navy bean soup with the ham bone after Thanksgiving she also makes a turkey soup with the bones and leftover meat. Also, would you mind sharing your recipe for the sweet potato pie. It is my favorite.

For Thanksgiving I do most of the cooking for all of my family, I will be having at least 30 people over. It is mostly my side of the family, so I have a lot of help with the clean up after.

Deb, My dog was just on antibiotics for 30 days and he also had to have blood work done. I have to take him back for a urine test, he is 8 years old and he is a Boxer named Astro.

Jen, I'm glad that you are back working out, but take it easy.

Linny, You are going to need a new closet for all the new shoes.

Have a great evening!

Josie
