50 and over week of June 13 check in

Yesterday I worked my butt off in the garden. I had painted an old wood picnic table bench to put it in my back garden. To level it I planted stones, yes planted stones in hard, hard dirt and it was HOT yesterday. I had to change cloths at lunch to go back out. I looked like I had been swimming in my cloths. Then I planted wild flowers all around it. I can't wait until they grow!! :D

Cathy I had a DNA test done for Weight Management by the Inherent Health group. http://www.inherenthealth.com/home.aspx I am so glad I did. I've been eating and exercising wrong for my DNA. The reason I did it was almost all of the "diet" plans out there you answer questions to find your type of plan or it was some generic plan. Some of the questions I could have answered several ways depending on which day of the week. This way I know I am doing what's best for me. Now, I don’t have to diet, I just eat only the foods (which turn out I like better) that are good for me. I also exercise (which is not the way I like but will do ;)) the way that is best for me.
I can feel a difference already. My digestion is so much better, I have a lot more energy, and it's only been since Tuesday.

Joan I've been wearing mine to. I try to burn at minimum 2400 calories a day. Some days that is really tough to get to and I just don’t reach it. I am really good about the 10,000 steps. If we all do this long enough we will get there!!


I am still on that diet and am losing about a half pound a day- Thank Goodness!

I would love 2400 calories. With a workout I usually am at 1800 calories, yesterday with disc 23 legs I was 1697 for the day. I just don't move much.

Oh I have to keep moving. That's why I love summer time. In the winter I curl up with a book or park myself in front of a movie. I have take advantage of summer time.

I've been doing some silly things like, I have to walk upstairs to use the bathroom. I make several trips to put things away when I normally would have put them all in a basket and made one trip. The grocery store mall trick part as far away as possible. When I walk to do things like get the mail, I walk as fast as I can. I try to move in the evenings when normally once I sat down I didn't get up til bed time. These things add up.

Anyone else have tricks you play on yourself? :D
 
No matter what I am buying at the grocery store I go up and down every aisle. I just don't go shopping very often. I maybe go to the mall once a year. I've got treadmill set up again in front of the tv. I'm trying to walk every day.

Good morning, Y'All.

We got back last night from home. Words cannot express how horrible last week was. Beth, pancreatic cancer is about the worst, probably because it is so aggressive. We saw her on her birthday the end of April and thought she would at least make it until the end of summer. Two weeks ago when we saw her, she was literally skin and bones and was totally bed ridden. If you have a health problem, do not hesitate to go to your doctor about it. That being said, during all of this, I found one of those funny-looking moles on the back of my right leg that just popped up out of nowhere. I do not sunbathe, and have not in a long time, but today's top priority is getting a doctor's appointment.

i am so sorry, magnolia, i cna't imagine how horrible and sad ya'll are right now. i pray God will comfort and strengthen you and your family.
Psalm 23 may be of some comfort to you.

Good morning,

I was trying to get caught up before we leave Saturday and worked until 4am. Then we get a phone call at 7 from the nursing home that dh mother is in the hospital again. And the airconditioner is broken. I am not even going to complain.

They are always taking mil to hospital because they mess up drugs. It's very hard to take away the pain in her face and not take too much. I worry that going to the hospital is commonplace and if she is every taken for something else we won't realize the seriousness.

I was down to 169lb Monday. That is 4lb since May 24 with a total of 7lb since May 3.

I walked 52 min on treadmill yesterday. I still need to do the last disc in meso 2.

Joan, congrats on the weight loss! That's really great! :D So sorry about your poor mil. It's so tough to see someone you love in pain. My prayers are with you and with her.

I just finished doing Kick, Punch & Crunch (or did it finish me? :eek:). Anyway, I liked it and thought it was fun. My philosophy for dealing with life is to work out, try to eat well, and get enough sleep.

Since there is no food in the house, gotta go to the store today.

Just checking in to say hi! My AC went out too, it is 100 degrees outside! These poor guys are dripping!

Magnolia, I am so sorry!!..you are right... pancreatic cancer is one of the worse.. It is still hard to believe that it would strike a young woman that fast and furiously.. Last year, when my friend had pancreatitis, I was so worried.. she got better but just found breast cancer.. Let us be thankful for every day!!

Joan, way to go on the weight loss. That is from the Mayo diet right?

Jann, your genetic testing sounds intriguing. Did it come with a full plan?

I have am down 14 pounds. I have finally hit upon the right formula for me.. which I will remember if I ever have to do it again, but I hope I don't!
Workouts right now are low key-- walking and pilates.. Will kick it up next week when I add back in more calories.

Hi, Everyone!

I did a 45-minute "brisk" walk today. The weather is beautiful, and I needed to be in the sunshine.

Yesterday was DS's birthday. I knew there would not be anything remotely "happy" about it, but I was worried about him, so I called him just to let him know how much we love him. He and my grandson are coming for a visit in July.

Sorry about not posting I got too busy yesterday. I'm still trying to finish work so we can leave on Saturday.

Calories eaten and used are still good.

Yes I'm still on the Mayo clinic diet but using it like BFFM. I break it down to 4 meals about three hours apart. The 5th "meal" is Special k protein water mix in a bottle of water, it is 5g protein and 5g fiber. I drink it after a wo.

Just a reminder that I will be gone June 19 Sat. through June 27 Sun.

I'm still trying to figure out what to eat next week. I don't care if I lose but I don't want to gain.

Magnolia Have you been to the doctor yet?

Mil is back in the nursing home.

Joan, it took a lot of work and persistence on my part, but I did finally manage to get a doctor's appointment for next Thursday. It was a frustrating experience, but you have to be very stubborn and insistent, and I am. Thanks for asking and I hope you have a safe trip and a great vacation.

Beth, I neglected to congratulate you on your weight loss as well. I'm very glad for you.

Magnolia- I have noticed a difference in my skin also- try not to worry- it is more likely that is just one of those aging things.. You have reason to be cautious but it will be ok--I have fair skin that I did bake when I was younger and I am always finding stuff that turns out to be fixable- even if it is basal or squamous-- I know someone that had a melonoma recently and that too was ok because she caught it early... You'll be in my thoughts and prayers..

Joan, can't you just do what you are doing and maintain? We are leaving for the mountains next week and my plan is to eat around 1200 a day and exercise every day.. then, when I get back, I am going to do another cycle of low calorie eating..

I should be able to maintain unless I go crazy and eat everything. It's worse out there because we usually only eat twice a day. It's working at home because I eat a little quite frequently. I will do better the first 3 days when dh is at the seminar. I will eat like I want to eat.:D

Today was a high day so I need to get on the treadmill.

Good morning, Ladies.

I was doing so well until a dear friend's daughter's wedding yesterday. It was one of those huge weddings featuring a reception that ended about midnight, and people that stayed are going to be waking up soon wondering how that hammer got inside their heads. There was a whole lotsa food, and dinner was served so that the main course got to us about 11 pm. By that time, I wasn't very hungry, since the appetizer buffet had been a major meal in itself meal, and there was a pasta course and a salad course before the main food came. :confused: It was good to be part of a happy occasion, though. We did dance a little, too, even though by rights we should all be doing 42-mile power walks today!! :cool:

I was planning to do one of Cathe's step videos today, but when I get to bed late like that, I don't sleep as well or as long as I would like, so I am just going to do a lot of housework instead.

I ATE WAAYYY TO MUCH TODAY! went out for lunch & supper. and my w/outs have been so rushed this week. gotta make up for them tomorrow.

well, my granddaughter was trying to get away from mama and tried to pull away and it just popped out. we went to the ER and the dr. popped it back in. it was awful! she did scream. but, the pain was gone when it got fixed. my dil felt so bad, but it just happens in kids a lot. they have very loose ligaments. but, she is perfectly fine now, but it can happen again.
anyway, it is friday again, can't believe it. the days just go soooo fast! summer is 1/3 over already.

well, my plan is to workout hard the next 2 days to make up for my rushed workout this week. i am hoping to be able to be around here a bit more this weekend and catch up on everyone.
