50 and over week of Jan 23 check in

I'll start this a little early. I always seem to forget to do it Sunday morning. I've been playing with the wo manager, putting in daily exercise and calories eaten. Graphs are nice but I wish I knew what "met" to put in. My hour on the treadmill has me using over 700 calories and I know that isn't right. The computer uses 9 mets for treadmill.

Metabolic Equivalent Task (MET) method. The energy cost of many activities has been determined, usually by monitoring the oxygen consumption during the activity, to determine an average oxygen uptake per unit of time. This value is then compared to the resting oxygen uptake. One MET is the energy expended at rest, two METs indicates the energy expended is twice that at rest, three METs is triple the resting energy expenditure, etc.

Joan- good for you keeping up with the new wo manager. I am feeling a little stressed for time right now since I am taking classes and also hosting my book club this week. So, I guess I will try to figure it out later. It would have been nice to have a record from jan 1 however.

I think I am going to do 40/20 now- then get on with my day.

Jann- thanks for the met explanation- I never understood it either!

I just wish I knew what level of met I am using. I think it is closer to half their amount but may be even less. Edited to thank Jann. I finally checked out the site. Walking 3 miles an hour is 3.3met. I was right- not even close to half. I don't want to go back and change wo manager but I should.

I have been keeping track of calories and exercise on my calendar and recently put it in the wo manager back to Jan 6 when I got back from vacation. I thought since it was so early in the year it would be worth it to have the graphs. It does seem hard to get everything in during the day especially if I get in exercise. I have been successful at that since Jan. 9 following my plan. What is hard is finding time to post since I have been so busy with work. I need to make that part of the priority because it does seem to help me keep my commitment to exercise.

I hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Good morning,

I thought I was catching a cold so took airbourne last night. Just what I need for the start of tax season. Will try to get walking in early today. It seems strange to not babysit everyday.

You are welcome Joan, I hope you kick that cold out before it gets comfy!

I can't seem to push myself into working out today. I seem to be finding all sorts of things to keep me from working out. Well, other things are getting done. :p all right, all right, I can hear you. Off I go. I'll walk on the treadmill, maybe that will lead to other things.

Hi, Y'All!

Thanks, Jann, for explaining what a MET is. I have been wondering about that.

This morning, I motivated myself into doing Firm Express, Cycle 3 Sculpt, which I liked okay. I am searching through Cathe's premixes to find some solid strength training I can add. Anyway, I followed with back stretches.

We are freezing here!! I heard that we had temps here that were around zero over night last night. We are having a heat wave today--16!

Have a great day, everyone!

Hi, Y'All!

We're in the middle of yet another snow storm. Supposed to last all day today and until tomorrow morning. They're saying possibly another another 6 - 10 inches. Wow. The fun never stops.

I did The Firm Express Cycle 3, Cardio & Weights. At this point, my goal is to get my endurance back. I hope the short bursts will be a good starting place, but it is also my intention to add some step and some more intense weight workouts. My goal is to start STS in March.

Have a great day, everyone!

We are getting snow too!

I am stuck on the new Firm express workouts too. I like these little 20 minute workouts and adding my own kettlebell swings and abs. I have been doing this mostly everyday.

Back again!

Jann, I love these Firm Express workouts, too, they are short, but they do get the heart rate up and you know you've been challenged. I am staying with them until I'm ready for something more intense.

Just added more calorie burning--Shovel Max. I really earned this cup of tea I'm drinking!! :D

Have a great day!

YUCK! sorry for you magnolia!!!

howdy ya'll, hope everyone is doing well, i have been doing a tracie long rotation this month with all of her new w/outs. ya know, just when ya think things are gonna slow down, after thanksgiving, christmas, b/days, baby births and on & on & on. well, we are now starting on the remodeling of the other house, so, nothing is gonna slow down it seems. i wanted to do STS this year, but just don't know if i'm gonna have the concentration that it takes. didn't do it at all last year, but this looks like it may be a busy year.
so, hope to be able to check -in. i am downloading the mixer thing, but don't know if i'll ever figure out how to use it.

Jann you can keep the snow. At least it missed us this time. It will be over 40 degrees tomorrow. Taking mother out to doctor and lunch.

I did power hour tonight. Only got 1 mile in but that's all I felt like doing.

Good morning, Y'All!

Glad you are back, Cathy. We missed you.

Joan, I'm moving to your neighborhood. Y'all are having a heat wave there. We are getting more snow today (maybe an inch accumulation), and they are predicting another storm for next week!!!!! Please make it stop!!!!!

I just finished FE Cycle 3, Cardio. My problem with all these new workouts is learning the choreography. I still got a good workout, though.

I read that shovel max is really a good calorie burner. Per 30 minutes, you can burn as much as 280 calories depending on your weight. Well, maybe this isn't a total waste of time. I am getting a lot of house max done, too.

Have a great day, everyone!

HI all! No workout this morning, spent the day for my pre-op visit. I have my thyroid surgery on Tuesday. No workouts for 2-4 weeks depending how it goes. I keep telling myself. It's ok -- once I get this thyroid under control I will get thin just because it's gone, who needs exercise??:D I know that's not true. A girl can wish though. :p

I'll still pop in to say hello! :)
