hi everyone.:)

wow, i do not know what is wrong w/me today. i am shakin' like a leaf and i have only done the 30m of SS. i feel like i'm gonna puke and i didn't go very heavy. PHH may not happen. i just downed 2 oreos , cuz i feel like i'm gonna pass out.

Cathy slow and heavy and the Gym styles are pretty close in the way they are made. hth's.

Linda so sorry about the migraine. I've never had one I've read though they are awful! Feel better!

I did LIC premix 1 -- Thanks Linda I forgot about that little workout! You can really burn some calories with this one! :D

linda, i am so sorry about the migraine too, had one last nite. i know they are horrible. mine came on w/an attack of the acid reflux (GERD) i was just diagnosed with. SO, NEEDLESS TO SAY, I THOUGHT I WAS GONNA DIE! i supposed that is why i have been so zonked today.
do you find that you are very tired before a migraine? sometimes, i am. so many different things can bring them on for me.

thanks jann, appreciate it.

have ya'll heard of density training? what do ya'll think of this? well, hope i can do better tomorrow in the w/out department.

," let's pick 3 exercises: the overhead press, the dumbbell row, and the squat.

Setting these up in a circuit fashion, you perform them one after another with little rest in between.

Instead of having a set number of reps, we're going to be forming each of these exercises for TIME–you simply have to do as many as you can in a given time period.

To make it easy, let's say you did each of the above exercises for 30 seconds. In performing such a circuit, your results might look like this:

Overhead Press: 25 pound dumbbells for 20 reps
DB Row: 40 pound dumbbells for 18 reps
Squat: 100 pound barbell for 22 reps

Not too shabby. Now, HERE is where it gets crazy.

We’re going to take advantage of some cool things that happen in the body; triggers that happen which will make you more efficient and more capable.

To do that, we're going to INCREASE the weight by 10-20% and try to do MORE reps.

Does that seem impossible? It isn't. Due to neuromuscular junction and neural activation, in almost ALL cases, you'll be able to do just that.

Your second attempt at that circuit might look like this:

Overhead Press: 30 pound dumbbells for 23 reps
DB Row: 50 pound dumbbells for 20 reps
Squat: 120 pound barbell for 25 reps

Density training is fun, challenge-based, burns a heck of a lot of fat."

oh yeah, i have another question. any of you use a HRM? i have been using one the last week or so, and the calorie burn seems to very, very high. i can't remember which one it was, but it was a long, hard workout and it said i burned 800 cal. i do not think that coudl be accurate. what do ya'll think?

hrm

Cathy,

I have used the polar models for some time, f6, f11 and another one. I have one the f11 that always seems higher than the others, but the sensor is more accurate- so, I wear that one and I burn more calories:D:D

On the other hand, there are some sctgivites that really seem to rip the calories- the HIIT type workouts for me,,, the weights, not so much but from what I understand, the effect weight training has on your body can't be measured by the HRM...

THe density training you described sounds like what I used to do with a trainer in a group- he used time so that hw could control more than one persons workout- the only thing is, we did not increase the weight the way you described- I may try that soon.. Thanks!!

Cathy I have never heard of density training. Thanks for sharing.
I have a Polar HRM also. Mine is an older model M81 it dose not start counting calories burned until my heart rate is above 100. On weight days I hardly burn 60 calories (except for legs ;)). Make sure you put the correct setting in your monitor... age, weight, height, that will make a difference.

I also wear the GoWearFit and have a display that monitors calories burned. On cardio days they are very close. The HRM goes by heart rate the GWF goes my body heat so I fine that really cool that they are so close in calories burned.

Hi ladies,

My name is Joan and I am an addict. I love white bread. I haven't had more than 2-4 pieces a year for 20 years. I eat the nasty whole grain stuff. But my brother came to visit for 2 weeks and bought white, soft, non-nutritional good stuff. I ate it every day. I didn't gain weight but I did watch it. Then. OK I will go cold turkey-after the 2nd loaf is gone.:p

My db retired Nov 1st. For years I think he has thought that dm and I are overweight because we eat so much. He and his wife have always eaten 2-3 time more than me and never gained weight. Since retiring he has gained over 10lbs. His job was the equivalent of a 4hr hard workout every day. Am I evil to get a small amount of enjoyment about this?

Cathy I don't have hrm but my gwf is accurate. I know because the calories burned is low. I can stay at 1700 eaten and not gain. On a weight day I will use about that many calories. I just have a hard time sticking to 1200 calories and at 1500 calories I lose sooooooooooooooo slowly.

My DS still buys it on occasion for himself. It's hard not to swipe a slice.

It's OK!

Good afternoon,

I had lots of energy today. I did Disc 17, MMA Boxing, and STS ab circuit yoga based. Still having issues with my lower back on the left side. I'm very sure I jarred it went I did CCC. No more jumping for me. I wanted to make up what I didn't do yesterday. I'm still feeling pretty good.

Cathy - I can't image having a migraine with GERD since really bad migraines can make a person nauseous. I do fine that I get really tired before a migraine attack....I used to get the classic aura that disturbed vision when I was a teenager, but ever since I was in my 30s the warning signs became very subtle...dizziness, very sensitive to light and noise, feeling really neurologically out of whack (clumsy, difficulty in expressing my thoughts, difficulty concentrating, etc.). Before I know it I have a full blown headache. Fortunately I have a prescription that kills the headache when needed.

I do use a HRM (polar 6) when I workout. I don't know how accurate it is, but at least I get an idea of how hard I'm working. Because I'm petite, the calorie burn is lower than the average sized person.

Good for you Joan!!! The first step is recognition{ LOL}

But here's a puzzle, when I was a kid, I ate bologna sandwiches with white bread and mayo everyday for lunch-- and I was skinny!

Just finished p57-- Boy that was intense in a totally different way- my legs were shaking, literally! It reminds me of a very intense pilates full body, with high reps and non stop... I liked it!!:D

Glad your feeling better Linda!! Magnolia must still be sick:(

Joan if you are feeling evil for your thoughts, how this one....a friend of mine, who never works out and who has always been bigger than me, lost a lot of weight recently. So, she gave me some clothes, saying graciously that they didn't fit any more...I guess the assumption being that they were from her fatter days.. Well, of course I tried on the jeans and low and behold, they were way too small -well, not exactly small, I just can't wear low cut pants and these were low cut and for people with no thighs... anyway, I can't shake this one, because she isn't mean but it made me feel bad-- really bad-- in fact sooo bad, that I have become a mad man every since trying to loose this weight...

Hi, Y'all!

Sorry to have been AWOL yesterday. My body was out of whack until this morning. Slowly getting back into the real world. Actually, I had to get my "land legs" back after the cruise. I think you adjust to the ship's motion and then you have to readjust to land. We had rough seas with something that looked like 5 foot swells the first four days out. There was no going to the gym those days, even though it takes a lot to make me seasick. It was a matter of losing one's balance constantly. Seem to be much better today. So I started working out after a long hiatus. I did Basic Step, Stability Ball Abs and the first segment of Total Body Stretching. My plan is to start with the less complicated workouts and work my way back up according to how much I can handle. Those three felt very good today.

I also get pretty nasty headaches. I think mine are severe allergy headaches. They seem to start in my eyes and my sinuses, and I take Advil or Bayer aspirin, which hardly make a dent in them. Think I may try some OTC migraine formula.

I hate to be a dud, but I really prefer whole grain breads. However, I occasionally bake with white flour (good ol' southern biscuits and cookies). I still wonder why I could be so skinny eating white bread, biscuits and grits when I was growing up. I really think we need to remember that life is one go around, and to give up everything we love totally seems unfair. I am a believer in moderation. I think if you eat well most of the time, you should be able to splurge a little once in a while. Lately, I also wonder if perhaps maybe there isn't some truth in the idea that dieting could actually cause weight gain.

Hope you all have a great day.

Magnolia

HI all --- I did disc 17 then jumped on the treadmill for 30 minutes. 17 is really a quick one!

Linda I am looking forward to MMA boxing tomorrow. I am 5'1" myself. That's why I was surprised how close the HRM and GWF numbers were.

Magnolia you are a dud - :D - for liking good for you bread - :D - ... :D
Man oh man, I would have died on that cruise. I get motion sickness just riding in a car. The time we went on a cruise I just drank all day... that helped!:p

Beth that is some friend. I don't like low cut pants either. They just don't feel comfortable. That's why I like Landsend... Fit 3 for me. :D

Good morning, Ladies.

I just finished Tracie's Defining Shape (or maybe it finished me!) Anyway, the balance work was harder than usual today, but that just means I need to do it more. I love all the stretching, it's something I love and need a lot.

I am really motivated now. The winter vacation crowd on the cruises is really different. The crowd on our ship was almost all retired people, many of whom had breathing problems and trouble getting around. There were lots of people in wheel chairs, several of whom couldn't walk because their knees wouldn't hold up that much weight. It was very sad, but cautionary. These were the same people who were always eating, too. It made me want to slow down on the food and take the stairs whenever I could.

It's time for me to hit the shower and then go run some errands. Have a great day, everyone.

Magnolia

Good Morning,

I did Disc 18 and the extended stretch this morning. My upper mid back and buns are sore from yesterdays workout...nice to have something else ache besides the lower back (although my lower back is feeling much better). The stretching felt so good.

I'm packing my bags again and leaving in about an hour. I'm going down to southern MD to help my Dad take care of Mom this weekend while my other sister and her family go to Hidden Valley PA. I'm really nervous because Mom's care is really scary for me. I'm not much of a nurse and hope I'll know what to do in case of an emergency. I already told my youngest sister that I will not give Mom any food if Dad is not around...she chokes all the time and Dad has to do the Heimlich Maneuver almost all the time.

Anyway.....hope you all have a great weekend!

Hi ladies,

Good luck Linda I'm terrible in any medical situation. I guess since my mother was usually around and she was an LPN she took care of that kind of situation. Now that it is her in need of help I'm out of my league.
We just do the best that we can.

No wo I guess I'm giving my self permission to concentrate on work until March 1. I just hope I can make myself start over again.

I understand what you are saying Magnolia. I sometimes what to grab a younger person and tell them not to wait until they are my age to exercise and lose weight. At least I won't let myself get any worse. Everytime I see someone using a scooter who probably doesn't need it, I want to yell at them. Keep moving or you really will lose it. If I could just listen to myself a little more.

Beth I would love to be your size. I'm 5ft 2 in so I think all of us shorties have to work extra hard.

Joan

Good afternoon,

Just finishing up appointments and copying info for tax returns. We are going out tonight for Valentine's day. Didn't want the crowds last week.

It was almost 60 degrees today. I really wanted to get outside but had appointments all day. Tomorrow it's supposed to rain. I guess that's ok since I still have a lot of work to do.

Joan

Hi all--- Gotta check in quickly here -- Yesterday was MMA boxing Today was disc 18. whew!! need a break!

hey all, how ya been?

LOL! that is so funny about the bread. i can't stand white bread anymore. i love the heavy, crusty whole grains. i bake w/wh. wh. flour too. my dil grinds our flour. she gets wheat in great big plastic buckets, and has a grinder. it is as smooth as whlte. i just made some banana nut bread, actually. :) i put wheat germ, and flax in most of my baked stuff too. :) i know, i'm weird. but, i love it. makes my husband crazy. he would love to have all white flour foods.

yesterday, i did CAWT, (the firm) and, it is soooo tough. i went very heavy on the wt. work. haven't done it in awhile. but, i have been getting sick all week, and i guess doing that hard workout just put me over the top. i felt horrible the rest of the day yesterday. have ahad a sore throat, and a bad cough. i am feeling a bit better tonite. didn't workout today. can't even remember what i did on thursday.
oh yeah, i remember. i did calorie killer and firm abs.

but, i'm gonna rest this wekend i think. i need to let my body get better. ya'll have a nice sunday.
