Just getting us started I haven't done anything this weekend except say goodbye to dh for the week. Maybe later. I do feel a lot better and am over whatever I got from Elliot.

Joan

HI Joan - Glad to hear you are feeling better. Sometime those bugs hang on for a while!

I am not working out today. Actually I am doing the prep for my followup colonoscopy tomorrow. I have to honest. The procedure doesn't bother me but, hearing the results is making me a bit unnerved. I'll be glad when it's over.

Good evening all,

Jann Sending positive vibes for good results on colonoscopy. I hate to wait for results. You will be in my prayers tonight.

Tricia Glad surgery went well with dh. My dh has hernia also but won't take time for surgery. I know you're not old enough but I hope you keep posting with us after STS. I think my post sts rotation will have to include a lot more cardio because I want to lose weight. But will start next round of STS in the fall with Magnolia.

Hi Magnolia, Beth and Cathy Hope you had great weekend.

Joan

Thanks Joan -- I'll be on the next round of STS with ya too!
Tricia I also hope you hang around. :) Glad to hear DH is doing OK. You certainly do have your hands full!

Off to the hospital.

hi all, sorry to be awol. had an energy meltdown yesterday. was so tired i could barely move. i get those days occasionally. i suppose it is old age. i have no idea why it happens. but, it is not fun. i'm so exhausted i can't even think. very strange. still a bit tired today. but, i did do disc 20, legs. i did not enjoy it too much though cuz i was so tired, but i got thru it. may need to rest extra today, too. see how i feel later.
cathy

do you suppose doing a cardio after STS is too much? i am old, remember! i think i did a 30m cardio after every sts last week and then cardio on off days. but, i was off friday, actually, outside riding horse and taking care of grandkids, so not sure how off that is. but, no formal workout. then , yesterday, i was dying, so obviously , no workout. actually, i barely got out of bed yesterday. i know it is not a bug, do you supposed it is overtraining?
later, cathy

Hi, there, everyone!

Hope each of you had a lovely weekend. Mine was very pleasant. I have a dear friend who is a Franciscan Friar whose community sent him about 250 miles away a year ago. We keep in close touch. Anyway, he's in town for the month and we surprised each other yesterday at church. It was great. :D

Cathy, I have days like that sometimes, too. I think it's just our bodies telling us that we need a rest day, which is par for the course when you work out like you do. But if you have them frequently and you haven't had a check up in a while, maybe you should see your doctor.

Jann, you are certainly in my prayers. I hope everything turns out well for you.

Tricia, I am also glad to hear that your DH is doing well. I hope you will stick around with us, too. I really enjoy reading your posts, and we'd really miss you.:(

Joan, thanks for the moral support. I'm going to order STS this week, I think, while I still have the money left to pay for it. CLX is great, but I'm starting to get a little bored with it. The workouts are tough, but I need a little more variety, and I think STS will give me that. Anyway, I still plan to finish CLX, then start STS.

Hi, Beth. Hope you are doing well.

Did Push Circuit 1 today, and my arms are still screamin.

Have a great night, everyone.

Magnolia

thanks magnolia, i do have check-ups and my dr. always tells me there is nothing wrong. he says i am very fit and healthy. so, why do i have days when i feel like i'm gonna die. do you think i workout too much? i always feel like i don't do enough. i'm very anal. :) i would workout 2hrs every day if my body could take it. but, alas, old age has set in. what a drag. then why can't i lose this puff around my waist????? it is so annoying. i do work hard and i jsut cant get rid of this belly. UGH!!!!
anyway, i feel much better today and i will do some kind of cardio tomorrow. not sure yet.
cathy

Hi, Cathy.

I hear you. There was a time when I had days I was too tired to walk around the block, and I only have those days occasionally any more. I also wasn't sleeping very well at all. Are you having any problems sleeping? That's really a key ingredient in losing weight, I think, but most of my friends around our age complain about not sleeping. Anyway, I also found that I really have to be careful about the amount of sugar in my diet. When I am not eating many sweets, the bulge gets a lot smaller. Also, I think as we get a little older, we tend to have digestive problems that can cause our tummies to bloat. I take a pro-biotic every day, and that seems to help a lot. I think there are lots of things you can try that aren't too complicated. And please stop referring to yourself as old! You're not that old, and keeping a positive mental attitude is just as important as anything else you can do for your health.

I hope I was helpful, and that you're feeling better. It really stinks when you work so hard to be healthy and fit, and that pair of jeans you want to get into just keeps eluding you. Best of luck.

Magnolia

Joan did you see the update on the Power Tower? It's on the boat!! :D The Altus guy said in the webcast it should be here around the end of August and cleared by customs before October.

Cathy I agree. We all have times when our energy goes down. It could be so many things. I know in meso 1 I felt so tired all the time when I tried to do sts 3 x's a week and all of the cardio. I had to back off.

No workout for me again today -- doc said no heavy lifting until Thursday - :(

thanks jann and magnolia, i do sleep well, except for my dern bladder. i have to be careful not to drink to much after about 8 or i'm up 3 times.:(.

and, yep the dreaded diet. i know, i know, i really need to clean mine up.

and i am way better today, thankfully the meltdown days are pretty rare and only last one day usually.

did the firm's cardio core fusion (55m). that is really a good workout. i was dripping sweat everywhere. and then did alison's piliates. felt good after that tough cardio.
well, got a class to teach tonite. so gotta go get prepared. ttyl, cathy

Hi, everyone!

Hope you are all well. Don't know if I will get to work out today, maybe during my DH's afternoon nap. I have a lot of studying to do, so that may take up my time. I don't know, though, I find that breaking for a workout is good sometimes. If I do, it'll be Low Max again, which I am learning. I did, however, finally break down and order STS today. :D So we'll be starting that in the fall (had to order now while I still have birthday money left!). I guess doing CLX has made me love the heavier workouts now, so I think I'm just about ready. Looking forward to the challenge, I think.

Hope y'all all have a great evening.

Can't wait to go at it again myself!! I still have the last week to do, will start that on Thursday.

Hi Everyone!

I've been reading but too busy to log on until now when I had to laugh at that goofy creature that Jann uploaded!! Where in the world do you find those things Jann?

I think the fatigue must be the heat- I am feeling it too! I am trying to get motivate to start the meso 3- maybe I'll be done in time to start with you all again in the fall. As far as the belly fat, I have to chime in here. Ever since I went to the pilates training in June, and was taught the mat workout and how to really pull in the core when working- I have lost at least an inch to 2 inches in the waist and hips and the top of my thighs-- the STS is working it's own magic, but honestly- the pilates is giving me a waist again- It takes about 25 minutes and I am doing it at least 5 days a week along with whatever else is on the plan- Cathy, I can't swear it will work for you, but maybe you could give it a try.

Good night!! I am exhausted!! TTYL Beth

Hi, all.

Beth, is there a specific DVD that teaches how to really work the core in pilates or is it necessary to take a special training class? I am always watching my form on all ab exercises to make sure I have the muscles pulled in, but if this might be of more help, please let me know.

Magnolia

Hi everyone,

I still haven't done anything. My brother and nephew came into town last Friday and we have been busy but not really too busy to exercise. I don't know what my excuse is. They are leaving this afternoon.

Cathy I definitely believe in one or two rest days a week and a week off after the month. I don't necessarily follow the STS week off. Like this week since I have 5 days off wo exercise I won't take a week off if I ever finish meso 3. Do you take vitamins? Your work and life keep you so busy maybe cardio should be cut back. I think everyone is different. I seem to get energized by two workouts in a day. If bad days aren't that often, I would just consider them rest days and not worry about it.

Beth Pilates sounds good but I know dvd I used wasn't that good. I pulled a muscle in my back and was sore for a week. I didn't try it again.

Jann Yea for Power Tower. I hadn't seen that. I do at least want to try to do some pullups.

Magnolia Looks like we will get almost everyone doing sts this time.

Hi Tricia.

Joan

Hi, everyone!

Jann, love the smilies! I used them in a couple of emails, now I have to figure out how to get them onto the forum replies.

Joan, I am really happy that so many of us are going to be going through this together. I'll need all the help I can get, and having friends who know the ropes will really be to my advantage.

Hi, Beth, Tricia and Cathy.

I did Push Circuit 2, followed by a segment from Ab Hits, followed by a segment from Total Body Stretching. (I really needed the stretching--my muscles felt like they were about to get all knotted up:eek:). I just got word that my STS order has shipped. One of the things I like about Shop Cathe is that when you order something that's in stock, it usually gets to you pretty fast.

Have a great evening, y'all.

Magnolia

thanks joan.

jann, where did you get all those cute dancy girls. I LOVE THEM.

WHEW!!! disc 19 KICKED MY REAR!!!! i don't remember it being so hard, but those double wave loads 'bout killed me. i hit failure several times before i finished my reps. WOW! tough workout.
went and swam w/my grandkids this afternoon, and had dinner w/them. they are so fun. so, i'm kinda tired. will post more tomorrow.
cathy

Hi Ladies!

I finally started the meso 3 again today---whew- heavy weights really wipe me out! I am ready for bed.

Magnolia and Jann- about the pilates

The “core” is really the muscles above and below your belly button and wrap from front to back. Start by squeezing your thighs together, tighten your rear-end, think of wrapping the muscles tight around your hips, then starting at your pubic bone and working up, draw in and pull up on your abs, think of pulling your belly button to your spine. That is what the “scoop” means. If you haven’t made a practice out of this, it not only seems weird at first, but it is hard to hold.

Now if you lie on your back and breathe in and out slowly, you notice that on the exhale, you have a smaller waist. So, in pilates, if you are doing it right, every move focuses on the scoop, and you use you exhale to remember and continue to scoop. The basic mat exercises are designed to rely on the core, even when it seems as thought you are working the legs. As a result, after a few days, you can really see the difference.

Stott pilates has some mat dvds that explain the exercises really well. I am usually a "more is best" kind of person so I really did not anticipate the powerful effect of these exercise if they are done right. I decided to get certified in pilates because I love the classes and wanted to learn to teach them. But it wasn’t until I went for the training that I found out that I had been doing them wrong- Once I understood the difference- I saw results.

I am not trading in my Cathe or anything, just adding to it!!:):)
