50 and over week of Aug 2 check in

Hello, my checkin friends!!!!!!!! I've missed you ladies, I have to say.

Thanks so much for all the well wishes and comments for my hubby, he's doing much better today - starting to get antsy and looking around the house for little projects he can do. (At which point I just shake my head and sigh - he's hard-headed when he get's like this!). Today he did a fun project with the kids, so I wasn't complainin'!

Well, just to keep life interesting I volunteered to help with Vacation Bible School this week. (Didn't know in June that DH would be convalescing! But he's actually enjoyed the quiet 3 hrs a day so it's all good.) I help with the music normally, but tomorrow I get to do Pre-K and Kindergarten, which my twins are in. That'll be interesting, since Marissa sticks like glue to me in the mornings until they get her engaged in something. But hey, I can do anything for 1 minute, 1 hour, 3 hours, 1 day, etc. ect!

The great thing is that I did get back to my STS workouts and I'm slowly moving through week 3 of Meso 3. Today was 4DS Bootcamp plus Pilates based abs (neat, since we're discussing Pilates alot on the thread, huh?). BTW, Beth thanks for that description, it really made sense to me. I'm going to check out Stott DVD's that I tried to watch before and didn't do them. I really think I'm going to do a pilates morning workout once school starts at the end of the month and see how I like it, in addition to my Prewedding rotation.

So, I'm on the list for the Abs Diet book and DVD from the library, I'm #2. Hopefully it's available soon, or I'll just have to go buy it!! I want to try this theory out. Which reminds me - CATHY, have they ever checked your thyroid?? I have hypothyroidism, and I used to get fatigued, cold and blah feeling before being diagnosed about 8 years ago. Just an idea for you to throw at the ole doc!

Jann, seems like we're close to doing the same workouts, what day are you on? Tomorrow for me is STS disc #33. I still can't believe this is the home stretch!! Yep, we did that!

Ok, it's midnight and I have 16 little preschoolers to deal with tomorrow morning, so I better get some sleep!

Oh - just wanted to say before I go that I will definitely be sticking around, you've made me feel very welcome and at home and I would miss you terribly - so I'm stayin'!

TTYL,

thanks tricia, i ask about it every time i get a check-up and he says my thyroid is fine. i wish he could find something , so he could make me feel better. but, anyway, guess i'm healthy, which i am thankful for.
cathy

Thanks Beth. Oh I don't think Cathe would mind at all if we added to her workouts. ;) I took a yoga class a while back. I am going to check to see if they have a pilates class. I have Karen Voight pilates DVD I don't think it's the basics though. I love the idea of strengthening my core. Anything to see a smaller waist again!

Cathy those grandkids of yours sound like they keep you plenty active.

Trica Yes, we are on the home stretch ! I am so glad you are sticking around!

I did disc 34 last night, I just couldn't wait until today. :p OH MY GOSH -- by the last set I could barely push out 8 reps on the barbell/bench exercises. I know I am much stronger than when I started but I could barely get those out. I am doing Plyo legs disc 35 today

Joan I bet you are pleasantly surprised when you get your Tower and do your pullups!:)

Magnolia -- It's easy copy and paste the forum text of any of the smilies just like you do for emails.

Tricia -- You added an avatar! Who's in the pic with you? I hope those kids take it easy on ya today! :)

So Beth you have inspired me so much -- How's this for spontaneous? I just signed up for a pilates class starting Sept 2!!! Smaller waist Here I Come! :D
It's one day a week for 8 weeks.

that is a good description, ironmom. it is much harder to do , though. is there something online to look at or do you have to buy the workout? and i tend to be that way too, "more is best" :) that is probalby why i hit a wall some days. and, yes i do need to take a week totally off. i rarely do that. i think i will after meso 2, cuz we are gonna have company for 4 days that week, so a good time to take off. i am just so neurotic, ihave a hard time taking a whole week off.

today i did tracie long's core cardio , from her "revolution series". i am either really tired this week or i am forgetting how hard these workouts are. LOL! this one fried me too. although i did almost the whole thing on an 8" step. it is a super fun workout and great core work at the end.

tracie talks about sucking your belly button to your spine, like you have a thumbtack in it. sounds like what you're talking about.

Hi, Y'all!

YAY! STS arrived today!:D So I'm taking a rest day to check it out and see what I might need to do in preparation. Looks tough, and I'm jazzed:confused: I want to finish Push Phase first (2 more weeks after this one, then maybe a cardio week?) and then I'm ready any time y'all are. I'd like to start with as many of you as possible, so just let me know when you're set. I can hang back with some cardio days if necessary.

Beth, thanks so much for the info. I found a Stott DVD today that looks about right, so I'm going to give that a try, using your instructions, of course.

Tricia, how cool that you're teaching VBS! ;) ! One of my parishes is having that this week, too.

Cathy, I am always afraid that taking a rest day will make me lazy, but I have found that the fact is it can really recharge you.

Hi, Joan & Jann.

Have a great evening, all!

Magnolia

Hi Everyone!

Jann, Magnolia and Cathy, that is great that you are going to try the pilates. Which Stott did you get Magnolia? Jann, good for you! Is it a mat class that you are taking? We will have to put our data together and see if the data supports my theory.

As for the weights, I did plyo legs, week 1 today! I love that it doesn't get any easier! I love that program!!!

Tricia, are you enjoying VBS? I used to do that when my kids were small. Oh how I miss those days!

My heart rate moniter is ready to die. I think when I replace it I am going to get the one you all got earlier. It would be interesting to know whaqt my metabolism is doing!! Well, I am doing biceps, triceps and shoulders early tomorrow- so I have to get to bed. Talk to you all soon!:):)

I survived my day in Pre-K VBS! Must have been all the positive energy coming my way!!

I didn't get to do my workout today, we worked around the house this afternoon and I am also pooped! Need to get to bed early tonight, but wanted to read up and say hi. I'll hopefullly get to post more tomorrow. Oh, Jann, that's my soldier nephew, DJ in the avatar with me. Can't even put into words how proud I am of that one!

Good night, all!

Good morning, Y'all!

Tricia, I know you are proud of your nephew. I guess it's because I'm the mom of a Staff Sgt., and am from a family that has largely been military, but I love all our troops very much! They are real heroes to me. I always remember them in prayer every day, and now I will add DJ to the bunch.

Beth, the DVD I got is Stott Pilates Level 1 The Secret to Flat Abs. It seemed about right. I'll let you know what I think. I'll probably have questions, anyway.

I'll be doing Push Circuit 3 this afternoon. I generally have very hectic mornings, so I have moved my workouts to 4:30 or 5 to see if this works better for me. It does seem to be better, so I guess I'm going to stick with it. I never would have thought so, but I realized that it will solve the problem of fitting in longer workouts.

Hi, Joan, Jann & Cathy.

Have a great day, everyone!

Magnolia I can't wait to hear what'ca think of STS. I whole heartily think CLX is a great warmup to STS!! Meso 2 is my favorite! tooooo many pushups in meso 1 ;)

Cathy I love my rest days/week I always feel so energized coming back!

Tricia I am very proud of our guys and gals to! It's nice to see his face!

Beth One thing I don't like about my GWF compared to what I do like with my Polar heart rate monitor is how it measures calories and steps

GWF
  • Motion: The armband contains an accelerometer that measures motion from multiple perspectives. ((even if you are sitting using your left arm))
  • Steps: The accelerometer counts steps by measuring the distinct patterns created by running or walking. ((I can fake it out just by jumping))
  • Galvanic skin response: When you sweat, your skin becomes more electrically conductive. This measurement helps the device understand how active you are. ((humidity ??))
  • Skin temperature: There’s an electronic thermometer inside your armband that monitors how hot you are. ((hot flashes anyone))
  • Heat flux: When you move, your muscles produce heat. Your armband measures the heat that’s flowing from your body into the environment. ((I do a lot of work outside))
My heart rate monitor measure calories by heart rate, age, weight. And my pedometer measures steps by stride. Which may or may not be more accurate. I have worn all gadgets at the same time -- (can you say nerd?) --
Steps were always higher with the GWF as are the calories. So I have had to adjust my METS and targets.

Just something to think about. I do love the GWF web site for their graphs and charts -- then again I am a nerd.

Disc 34 done! I liked Plyo legs today. My heart rate go up there and I burned a lot of calories!

Hi Jann, Beth, Magnolia, Tricia and Cathy,

I just finished disc 32, 33 and 34 and a mile of Leslie. By the way you shouldn't do more that 2 discs in a day.

I'm going to look for Stott dvd. I think the dvd I had may not have been with the best form.

I would like to wait for STS until I get Power Tower. But if everyone wants to start earlier that's still ok with me.

Joan

Hi, Y'all.

Well, I finally did Push Circuit 3 today. I had one of those days on Friday, Cathy, like you had. It was hot here. I grew up in rural Georgia, when not everybody had air conditioning, but it never got this humid! Anyway, I was totally wiped out all day. But I did get that workout done today, and it felt good.

Looking forward to STS.

Have a great weekend.
