50 and Over- *Monday*

Good Morning all:

Started my day with a 20 minute I-Tread and then did S&H Chest. I am hoping to continue this rotation for a couple of weeks to see if it helps. I know that if I could get my eating in line, anything I do would probably work!

Garance: sounds like the ballet was wonderful! I agree, that I will probably do the pre-sale too, because I would like another slow & heavy type weight workout. I did not read the article in More, am considering getting a subscription though.

Have a great day... bbl

Hi all 50 and over.

Finally decided to join up and stop lurking. It is so hard to find anyone in my age group who is doing any kind of exercise involving weights.

A bit about myself.

I am 63, married, 2 shih-tzus, a cockatoo and 4 silkie chickens. I live in the Southern California area but am orginially from Missouri. I am still working full time for the city of LA.
I have owned a step since the early 90's and love Gin Millers videos and dvds. Have messed with weights since the 80's but never followed through long at a time. I get the step out about once a year and use it for a few months then quit. Bought a treadmill a few months ago and decided I needed to get back into strength training. I recently discoverd Jari Love's ripped workouts and it got me started again with my weights and a lot of people on her forum also use Cathe's so decided to check it out. She has some amazing workouts. I have recorded a couple of her workouts from fit TV to try. I don't have any trouble following the weight workouts but find her step workout a little hard to follow. I am used to Gin's straight forward simple moves. Would love to get her new 4 day split while it is on sale but kinda concerned it might be to much for me and I will give up on it.

I would be interested in hearing which workouts of Cathe's any of you are using that are about my age. Since I have done Gin's I don't feel like I need a real beginner one but don't want to go overboard either.

Thanks in advance for any advice,
Susan D

Morning Ladies!

Welcome Susan! The more on board the merrier. 4 chickens? Oh my! At least you have fresh eggs to eat every day.:D I would suggest you start w/Cathe's beginner/intermed dvds. Go check out in the Rotation forum for an intermediate rotation that Cathe devised.

I've been a Cathe fan for 15 years & started w/Mega Step Blast. I've been doing step since 1981. I don't do step very much anymore except for 1x a week.

Saturday I did Kimberly Spreen's Absolute Kbing premix for 68". Sunday went bike riding w/son. Gorgeous day went for 15 miles.

Tonight my Tracey rotation calls for Cardio SF kickboxing + the 1st section of Sculpt SF. This sculpt is all functional fitness. Friday I tried using ankle weights + heavy dbs & it worked well. I'll have to add on more for tris & bis as she was too light in these areas. My eats for today are:

Meal 1: Kashi Autumn Wheat cereal w/blueberries
Meal 2: oatmeal w/flaxseed (made w/water) + 2 eggwhite + 1 whole egg omelette + iced coffee w/stevia instead of sugar
Meal 3: Eating Well's recipe jasmine, veggie & tofu salad dressing made w/EVOO + lemon juice & topped off w/mint & parsley + peach
Meal 4: chicken + broccoli, cauliflower & carrots
Meal 5: fish w/veggies (grilled in a tinfoil packet) from EW mag
Meal 6: protein shake made w/water & 2 scopps of PVL protein powder (caramel dip)

Linny: You've gotten some excellent advice from Deb. What have you decided on your job? I personally think your job is extremely toxic & you need to get out. I hope you resolve this soon. I'm thinking of you.

I'm going to look into today that More subscription. I've never heard of it but it sounds intereting.

I preordered the 4-day split. There wasn't even a question in my mind whether I would or not. She's the best there is!:D My only concern is, the new technology. Will these dvds play in my player? I sure hope so. I'd hate to purchase something new.x(

Have a wonderful Monday! BBL, Kathy:D

Hi Ladies,

I walked on Saturday and then came home and cleaned the house.
I threw my back out and could hardly moove on Sunday.

I feel a bit better today, but I guess I need to rest and take care of it. I can't believe it, just when I'm getting back in the groove
this happens.

Welcome Susan! Where in Souther California do you live?

Josie

Hi Susan and welcome--

I am 60 years old and have been doing Cathe for over 20 years. I had the old Step 'n' Motion video and just kept buying them. I would recommend Step Heat for a beginner with her choreography. Lots of repetitions, so you can get the moves down, and a really good abs section at the end. Cathe's step routines are very do-able compared to some others--and they build on each other, so gradually you just get a couple of really new moves but are familiar with her step vocabulary. I bet you will find Gin Miller a bit boring after you get familiar with Cathe.

This morning I did the premix on Low Max that is all of the step combos (44 min.) and followed it with the core section from Kimberly Spreen's Absolute Kickboxing.

I pre-ordered the new DVDs. It sounds like it will be premix heaven with tons of options, which I love.

Well, last night I really splurged. Last year I bought this Cuisinart soft serve ice cream maker and never used it. So my husband, teasing me to death about another one of my impulse purchases, provoked me into making some: 2 cups heavy cream, 1 cup whole milk, 2 tsp. vanilla, and 3/4 cup sugar. It was heavenly stuff, especially after I poured some chocolate sprinkles on top, but WE ATE THE WHOLE THING! I hope I haven't sabotaged my 9 1/2 lb. loss, but I will wait until tomorrow to find out. I just couldn't get on the scale this morning.

Have a great Monday everyone!

Welcome, Susan!

I agree with doing Step Heat or some of Cathe's older DVDs. They are less complex than her newest stuff, although she is such a good cuer that I don't think you'll have trouble with any of them after a few run-throughs.

One I would avoid is Rhythmic Step - that one still throws me off.

I am 55 and modify like crazy - sometimes what I'm doing looks nothing like what's on my tv screen. I still get a great workout, even without twirls, pivots, and those dreaded ricochets!

garance, shoot, I already gave away my More (I give them to friends after I read them). Maybe I can find the article online.

I did PUB last night, the whole thing. For about 10 minutes afterward, I lurched through the house looking like some kind of robot, because I didn't want to lift my arms from my sides, not even an inch!

Tonight I'm doing Christi Taylor's Solid Gold Step.

Have a great day,

Jen

Welcome Susan and hi to everybody!

I am 55 years old and have been doing Cathe for about ten years.

Yesterday I did Low Impact Step on the BOSU, some abs, and yoga. I love the BOSU because it presents such a balance and core challenge.

This week I am basing my workout selection on the Cathe June 2007 rotation, but doing one body part a day. I decided to combine it with the cardio workouts in CTX. So this morning I did Intervals and Back with some yoga stretches. SH is just so boring for me when done alone. But the results are great!

Went shopping over the weekend and am now fitting comfortably in size 10 pants...some were a bit loose. Had to buy a few pairs because the size 12's are falling off....and it is good for the ego. Probably will "weigh in" at Weight Watchers tomorrow or Wednesday. Since I am not working for the next few months, I have been trying out different meetings in my metropolitan area. I have found that they vary alot, dependent on the leader and the members who attend.

Bought the new pre-sale. I am really excited because all the components should offer awesome premixes and endless options combined with other workouts.

Susan: If you buy the pre-sale there is free postage on whatever other Cathe workouts you buy. The "whatever workouts" will go out right away.

"More" magazine looks interesting. On the web site they offer 20 issues for $20.

Regards to all,

Rhonda

Thanks for all the great info. I think I will pre order the new one and get the basic step also and I will check out the heat one also.

Josie I am in the Los Angeles area (San Fernando Valley).

Jen, I can identify with what you said about not looking like anything they are doing. I did the one from Fit TV yesterday and my feet got all turned around LOL. But I guess as long as we keep moving its ok.

Garance, the ice cream maker sounds heavenly, I am drooling on my key board. I do like the music in Cathe's workouts and the moves are really cool.

Rhonda, thanks for the tip and I am sure I will buy a couple of more just to save on the shipping.

Gotta go check out the heat one now.

You ladies are sure doing great with the workouts, I will get there slowly but surely.

Hi Ladies:
Welcome Susandean; My parents and brother live in Huntington. I visited in April its beautiful there.I do have Jari Loves dvds and use them once in awhile to mix things up.
Melrose: you're right about the dvds being easier. I do think Lowmax is pretty easy if modified on lower step.
Rhonda: Congrats on your loss. Size 10 yahoo!
Josie: Sorry to hear about your back. Take it easy.
Deb: I'm actually making a list for HR. Will have a lot to say when I leave. I know I should have said something before to HR but my boss is friends with the administrator and I was worried about my job.
Garance: I like the idea of going to her and telling her she is making sick.
Kathy: I did go into work friday to give notice to HR but they took the day off so I left it with payroll and explained it was my resignation and HR needed it. Then was going to give another copy it to administrator today and she was on vacation and so isn't my boss. I had to call my other facility across the street and tell that Director I was resigning. She was sorry about the situation and hopes I will bring up everything to HR when I leave.
Did get the hives again today during workout but not as bad as last week.~Linny~
