40s - week of 4th of July

Getting us started, probably will be a quiet week here :)

Yesterday I rested after my hike on Friday. I had a blast on Friday hiking 5.5 miles. Strenuous trail, and we found these rocks the jutted out of the earth and we climbed all over them. Pics: Mt. Sanitas w/Cheryl - July 2011 | Facebook

Today I did RS, my legs are still tired from the hike (used my quads a lot). I also got a fitbit. For RS, it says I did 7000 steps, burned 500 calories, and went the equivalent of 4 miles. I think I like this little device. Will see if it helps me to lose some weight, I just can't shake these 5 lbs from the cruise and 10 lbs from starting back to work 2 yrs ago. eek, that's 15 lbs! My back is tight again. I did make it through the hike with lots of ibuprofen :)

Had a nice day with DS22 and future DIL. Resting the rest of today with a good book :)

Hi Lisa and anyone else around

Yes, looks like it will be quiet with Roxie and Mary away. Glad you had a good hike on Friday. Just take it easy with your back though. Don't make it any worse. So, tell me what's a fitbit? Another new gadget?! 500 cals is a lot - I never burn that much on a step workout.

On Sat I did Travel Fit which was really good. I used the blue band all the way through to make it a bit tougher. Weather was quite nice over the weekend so we've just been lazing. I did Imax2 today. I found it really tough - actually felt a bit sick by the end which has never happened before. Guess that's what happens when you don't do something for a while.

Today was STS TB UB PM and ME UB only plus abs. Boy my 4 day weekend is going by fast.

Ronne, fitbit is like a go wear fit or body bugg, but you buy the device ($99) and the website to upload your data is free. It tracks steps, calories, and distance. My weightlifting workout didn't get me as many steps/calories/distance, duh! Hoping this will motivate me to move more outside of my 1 hr of exercise a day. I'm thinking I put on weight from not moving as much because I used to walk an additional 6000 steps walking the dog. I think the 500 cal for the 55 min was for more than the workout, for example, it seems to have you burning calories throughout the day because of basic body functions. I haven't determined exactly how it figures everything out (nor will I as I need to get from behind this computer and move more!). I need to be happy with the fact that whatever movement I've been doing, I obviously have to do more to lose. A sobering fact for me may mean I need to do more like 15,000 steps a day instead of the recommended 10,000. I had 11,000 steps yesterday and my calorie burn was about the same amount as I ate  guess that's why I'm not losing any weight (or losing at a slug's pace)

IMAX2 is a tough workout, good job! My friend is telling me how sore her calves and quads are from our hike...haha. I didn't get DOMS from the hike but she did. She's naturally skinny (irritating), but my muscles are obviously stronger than hers :) I don't do Travel Fit and I don't like the blue band! That's great that you did it!

Off to the grocery store, I can't believe tomorrow is work already. I vow to get up and walk around every hour! Maybe even set a step goal while at work.

This will be quick, my "assistants" are here. I am doing STS meso1. So far I did disc 1 and HiiT 40/20. I am so tired. Between the thunderstorms one night and the pre-holiday fireworks last night, I cannot sleep. The kids were up both nights b/c they were scared of both sounds. Ugh! TTYL
Murphy
Lisa - what is RS?

Hi everyone

Murphy - are you going to go all the way through STS again?

Lisa - sadly, I think it comes down to cutting back on food now. I'm just happy to stick with where I am. There are muscles underneath but I can't be bothered to cut down the food to reveal them! I don't really eat that much just not particularly healthily. ;)

Today I did an easier full body workout - endurance with light weights. Work's really tailed off so I'm trying to fill my time. Did a bit of shopping yesterday while DD was at gymnastics. Bought a few new t-shirts as some of mine are looking really tatty.

I ran 5 miles today, it felt good after I was done but definitely not during!

Murphy, RS is Rhythmic step. Doing Meso1 AND HIIT 40/20 in one day? are you CRAZY?

Ronne, I eat semi-healthy and I eat when I'm hungry! I can not stand to be hungry! Will see if trying to move more (at a low intensity) helps. For example, I was reading yesterday and knew I didn't get as much moving in as I may need, so I read on the treadmill while walking at only 2 mph. Better than nothing. I would walk for .5 mile, take a break to cool off (didn't want to sweat else I'd have to shower again!). I did that for a total of 1.5 miles. I also feel and notice a difference between age 46 and when I was 42, sigh.

Yesterday was an unplanned rest day. Today was disc 2. I am just doing meso 1, unless the rotation for August does not interest me. Was there a rotation for this month? I saw one posted with 2010.

Ronne - I was using the band today and realized that you used the blue band. I forgot there even was a blue band. Are you still sore? I am sore just thinking about it.

Lisa - I wish I could say I did disc 1 and 40/20 on the same day. I typed wrong, one sunday and the other monday.

Murphy

Hi ladies

Lisa - but isn't the danger that you get so involved in what you're reading that you come off the treadmill?!!:D

Murph - relieved to find you're not Superwoman after all! I have to admit I didn't feel anything after using the blue band.

Today I did Cardio Strength - I missed out one of the sections so it was 50 mins. I was purple in the face by the end! We're having our bathroom redone in the summer when we go away. The builder just came round to sort out the last details. I'm so looking forward to it!
Another quiet work day. Hoping it picks up soon!

I did Jari Love R&C, and Intensity Bootcamp today.

Ronne, work is slow here too, but I much prefer this to CRAZY busy. where are you going to this summer? did I miss that?

Murphy, since you're a NorthEast girl, I'm thinking of heading that way in the fall. Be one of the leave peepers :) any suggestions on best place to go for sightseeing and maybe a hike? thinking of anywhere from Mass to Maine.

Hello

Lisa - that sounds like quite a workout! We're having a change this year and going to Spain. We're renting a house in the hills outside Barcelona, about 20 mins from the coast. It's got a pool and we can get the train into Barcelona from the nearby town. I'm really looking forward to it but trying not to wish the summer away!

Today I did some Tracy Anderson cardio. Just have to be careful not to twist anything or trip as it's really dancey.

Today was KPC, was up early with a headache (still have it too), so did this one since it's a bit easy for me and it's longer than normal. My fitbit said I only burned 300 calories which sounds about right to me for this workout.

Ronne, that vacation sounds so divine! Aren't you supposed to invite your 40 friends too? I bet there are lots of vineyards too?

I'm tired of the heat, it's been a warm summer for us, a lot of 90+ degree days already (don't know how many so far), but it's not the norm for us. I was even looking over some wintery pics I had taken (like in Alaska) trying to feel cool that way! :p

Ronne - I agree with Lisa, that vacation sounds excellent. I also agree with bringing your friends.

Lisa - I am in NJ. I cannot think of any sites but I can look into it. We have lots of beaches and there are some good hiking places and nice parks. Do you want me to look into it?

Murphy, I just thought you may know off hand the go to places. I've sent away for all the vacation planners for the New England states. I was thinking Martha's Vineyard (don't know why, just because I may never get up there again). I'd love to see Niagara Falls but it's so far inland and not too much around there from what I can tell. I really wish I wasn't the one that had to do the vacation planning! For ONCE I'd love DH to take the initiative and plan something! It's all a far cry from SPAIN! waaaaa! Ronne, you are so lucky!

Hey Ladies,

Sitting in the car on our way home from a wonderful time. I did some rock climbing in the Badlands and some walking an stair climbing, did a 5 mile bike ride and then walked at Mount Rushmore. We had to deal with thunderstorms an rain. The second night out we hurriedly packed up the tent and moved to a motel due to a lightening storm, then when we got to Keystone South Dakota we were able to stay in a cabin for the same price as a tent an much drier. That's all for now.

Sounds like a fun time! I haven't been to Mt Rushmore in years, may have to make a trip sometime now that the kids are all grown and out of the house (the kids were like 3 and 6 when we went, they are now 19 and 22). Glad you had a good time!

Lisa-I was there when at the age of 12 it has changed alot since I was there. It was so cool as we were leaving the profile spot of Washington there was a mountin goat that crossed the road in front of us. We were headed to Hot Springs and there was and area where the buffalo were so close you could almost touch them.

Hi all

Roxie - glad to hear you had a good trip - despite the weather! Wow a tent in a lightning storm - no wonder you packed up!

Lisa - your holiday sounds pretty good to me!

Murphy - have you got any holiday plans?

Well, I didn't mean to make you all jealous! Spain just isn't that far away for us! Did Tracy Anderson Mat again today. Felt it in my legs. Got a busy weekend ahead, off to a gig tonight and then DH is doing a 10k run in London on Sunday morning. We've got to be there by 8am!! I think I'll be going back to bed on Sunday afternoon!
Have a good weekend, everyone.

today was Circuit blast. We went out for Pizza last night, YUM! and a mojito, double YUM! So much for all the calories I've been burning and not eating, but my body needed it!

Roxie, yes the animals are awesome, here in Colorado at the Royal Gorge (highest-or is it longest? suspension bridge) the deer eat right out of your hand right before you enter the park. They are wild deer (not caged or anything). When we were there there was a bad storm too, I thought the tent was going to end up in another state! but we slept right through it :)

Ronne, Shouldn't you be joining DH in the 10K?

Saturday, Low Max in it's entirety (been ages since I've done that workout all the way through). My hips/thighs/quads are sore, I think from all this walking I've been trying to do. Not sure how long I can keep this up (I think the heat is getting to me). Walking on the treadmill reading a book isn't as fun as it was walking Maddy outside :( I go back and forth with wanting a dog, but bottom line is I don't really want the responsibility of caring for it (especially in old age) or being tied down either. Too bad I can't rent a dog for love and exercise :p Yoshi is hanging in there, had to take her off her arthritis medicine before it damaged her kidneys more, so she's on homeopathic stuff....we get to stuff 3 pills down her a day. It's easier than I thought it would be, manly because she can't see us sneaking up on her and doesn't have as much energy so she doesn't put up a fight. Lot's of people tell me to just put her to sleep, how can I do that? (Dont' think the vet would do it anyway), there's nothing wrong with her but very old age and slowing down of her organs and arthritis. For DS19's sake, I'm hoping she makes it through the summer so that once he's back in school it won't be as hard on him. Always protecting the kids :)
