40s - getting back in shape - 2/7/11

Welcome home! We missed you! I just looked at your pics! Looks like you had a great time! Murphy has been working out like a maniac for all of us! Talk to you later, Mary

Hi Lisa - welcome back! Can't wait to hear all about it. Photos look great.

Yes, Murphy's been working out for two this week - so don't worry!

Mary - what did you get up to this weekend?

We had a quiet weekend, just sorting stuff out around the house. I did Slo-Mo Chest, Tris and Bis yesterday. Today I'm doing a 30 min cardio session. Work was really quiet today so I took the afternoon off, went for lunch and to see a film! Ahh, the advantages of the freelance life!

Bye for now.

Hi girls! Today I did HSTA, I thought it would be quick! I thought it was like 45 min., an hour later I was done! Yesterday was the treadmill and rower, sat., I did the upper body premix of STS TB. DH was sick this weekend, cold symptoms and a temp of 102. He was miserable, we laid low and had friends over for the game last night. Ronne, what movie did you see? Funny you should mention SloMo, I just gave mine away! That leg section I remember being miserable! Lisa are you acclimated back to the reL world? We need details! Murphy, I know you did something painful! Tell us! Well, I need to go and scrape the ice off the drive! Talk to you tomorrow! Mary

Hi everyone, I'm still trying to get all settle back into a routine. I did do 4DS legs weights only yesterday, but then I started feeling really queasy after and ended up taking some pepto bismol. not sure if I caught something, but was still a bit nauseous today so I took the day off exercise. I do have DOMS in my legs. I'm feeling discombobulated at work, it doesn't help doing the contact in one eye for monovision since I haven't used it for 2+ weeks. My brain is trying to figure out how to see :) I pick up some RX glasses on Friday I'm hoping those work for computer/reading and I'm ditching this contact. Also trying to get used to the weather change! got 6 inches of snow yesterday and more planned for tomorrow! While we were gone they had record lows -20 ! Guess I picked a good time to be gone, the cat didn't freeze either since I left the heat on for her (aren't I nice?). DH is out of town this week and will have to start traveling more.

Let me try to give some highlights of the trip:

Arrival in Puerto Rico - Expensive hotel, not worth it....extremely HOT, wish we could have seen the rain forest here.

Day 1- St. Croix, we went snorkeling at Buck Island. uh, it wasn't normal snorkeling, it was ROUGH waters with a strong current and waves breaking over your snorkel at times. What did you think of the sting ray? I also saw a shark (24 inches or so long). DH had issues (he isn't a water person), ended up having to have the guide tow him along on a ring, ended up towing him into some coral, got his legs scratched up bad. I felt so bad and let him decide if he wanted to cancel our other water excursion, he did. I've never seen him so scared. There was a point where I got separated a bit from the group trying to avoid some coral and the current taking me away and I had to swim hard to get to the boat, got on it and the boat was pitching around a lot in the water, got sick (didn't throw up thankfully). I failed to use the public rest room before the bus took us back to the boat, bus driver took a longer way back and I had to pee bad! Got near the boat and the bus driver stopped and said he had to go use the restroom and locked us in the bus. He was gone before I could yell, I have to go too! I couldn't figure out how to open the door, so climbed in the driver seat and got out his door. How embarassing! Every tour ended with Rum punch.

DAy 2- St. Kitts, just did shopping, lots of rum here! Some very yummy, amazing all the rum tasting in the street outside the shops.

Day 3 - St. Lucia, Catamaren ride to the pitons.....boring. Water got rougher near the Pitons, wonder if they are in the Atlantic Ocean side.

Day 4 - Dominica - a bit disappointed in the hikes/waterfall/lake....Colorado has much more impressive ones. Wish we would have snorkeled here, heard it was much better than Buck Island

Day 5 - Barbados - our tour got canceled but we ended up hiring a cab to drive us around for an hour. It was HOT! Could swim with sea turtles but of course we weren't, I've seen sea turtles very close in Mexico and I have no desire for them to get near me in the water :)

Day 6- Grenada - very interesting seeing how they make the spices. the yellow one in the picture is a cocoa plant, you open it and there are big seeds in a milky, slimy substance, they take a seed and suck on it. It's sweet, I was brave and tried it.

Day 7 - at sea - we were a bit bored on the boat, entertainment on this cruise wasn't as good as the last. We ended up doing a lot of wine and champagne classes learning about them. One time it was an hour of the upper end wines (6 white, 6 red)---we got a bit sloshed :) Oh, the cruise had a get together for the anniversary people, just really had a champagne and cake.

Day 8 - curacao - just shopped, we were getting tired by now! bridge was interesting.

Day 9 - Aruba - more shopping (and spent a lot here)--was to do parasailing but we canceled with DH's fear of water

Day 10 - at sea - lots of rocking of the boat going across the Caribbean sea, ready to be home. another wine class. Food starting to taste the same.

Deparature - LONG day at the airport, Puerto Rico airport is a mess. Luggage was overweight, had to open it up and take stuff out (how embarrassing). ended up carrying a bag of dirty clothes as a carry on.

The people on the islands were very nice (but not in Puerto Rico). St. Croix is a little sketchy, police everywhere....I would not feel safe venturing on my own there! The others were relatively safe. The biggest language barrier was in Curacao and Aruba.

I think that's about it. Had fun, glad we went, but happy to be home!

After this I promise to do personals tomorrow :)

I took it "easy" today. I only did plyo legs. I wanted to add the barre workout from LBB but I did not get up in time. The little one threw up last night and I was up cleaning that up. I wanted to rest more this morning.

Lisa - I am so jealous. Can I go with you next time?

Hi all

Lisa - take it easy, you don't need to rush back into your workouts. The temperature change must be a bit of a shock. I like the sound of all the rum! I love Caribbean rum! Did you bring any back with you?!

Murph - Sick Max! My least favourite workout! Yuck!

Mary - It's funny today I did Slo-Mo Legs. I haven't done the DVD in ages so thought I'd work through it this week. I've decided I don't really like the legs section. There's too much strain on my back. I like the UB work though so it's worth keeping for me. And the premixes are good.
I went to see Rabbit Hole. Thought it was really good.

I'm going out to see Black Swan tonight - ready for some mad ballerinas! See you tomorrow!

New to check-in

Hi ladies,

I just found your check-in today. I hope you guys don't mind me joining in. I'm working on getting back into shape after several years off. I love Cathe workouts and she is the only DVDs that I am doing. I started back to exercising and eating right on Dec 26, 2010 and have already lost 16 lbs. I thought joining a check-in would help keep me motivated. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone. For a little more about my story, here is a link to another thread.

Hi Everyone, feeling better so I redeemed myself and did 4DS UB premix (67 mins!) then had to go shovel 6 inches and more is coming. What a shock, why did I complain how hot the Caribbean was?

Murphy, ONLY plyo? You must have been a working out maniac! But I do believe you are the youngest here :)

Ronne, Yep we brought back a bit more Rum than we should have. My BFF is coming over Thurs night so I can give her some of the spices I picked up on Grenada and do Rum tasting. Loved the Rum in St. Kitts.

Mary, I always underestimate how long a workout is....maybe we do that so that we start it, once you start have to keep going, right?

Welcome Healthy Plate. Sounds like you are off to a good start. This group keeps me going, especially after a hiatus. Sometimes I feel like I can't do as much as I did when I was 42 (I'm now 46), but I just continue and do the best I can do and be the best 46 I can be. I've had a few stops/starts lately will illness and vacations. Sometimes it's tough working back up to where I was, but it comes back eventually, just keep at it and don't get discouraged.

I'll be doing another shovel-max at the end of the day....yep, paying the man for all the time off :)

Hi everyone! Today will be cardio of some sort. Ronne, was Rabbit Hole the one with Nicole Kidman? Where they lost their child? Let me know what you think of Black Swan, it looks a little scary! Murphy, easy day? Sorry about the vomit, I don't do well cleaning that up, I usually have sympathy vomiting! Lisa, what a weather change for you! We are at about 13 degrees right now, I don't like it at all! Hello to you new person! Welcome! Well, I better go look at my w/o collection and see what speaks to me, hopefully it won't be a long one! Talk to tomorrow. Mary

I started out doing Low Impact Step this morning and was interrupted by company:( so i only got about 15 mins in on that one. Then this afternoon I did 4DS Kickbox premix. It felt great!

Lisa- Thanks for the welcome and encouragement. I loved your pictures. It looked like a fun trip.

Mary-Thanks for the welcome.

:) Vickie

Okay, today was BC. I was not sure if I was going to complete but I did. I think I may increase the weights next time. Does anyone else's BC (from the Intensity Series) volume go low in some places? I was going to contact customer service but I really don't feel like bothering.

HealthyPlate - welcome and congrat's on the weight loss.

Murphy

Hi everyone

Vickie - welcome on board. Looking forward to getting to know you :).

Murphy - I sometimes have sound problems on some of the DVDs but I can't remember if BC is one of them. Not major problems, just sometimes going from quiet to loud.

Mary - yes, that's the right film with Nicole Kidman. Black Swan was great! A bit nasty at times. It looked great, the music and costumes were fantastic. So what did you go for in the end?

Lisa - it's looking like we might be done with snow for this winter. It's got a lot milder in the past couple of weeks. The garden is full of green shoots.

Today I did CTX All Step, just the cardio and then a portion of Stretch Max. Work has picked up again so no more lazing around for me!

Well, not a good morning for me. I woke up with a monster headache, it did ease up (coming back now), so I got in an easy w/o of MMA KB.

Ronne, Oh my, how I wish I could see some green shoots, soooo much snow. I probably shouldn't complain, it's been a mild winter for us (until the last 3 wks or so), glad I missed 2 wks of it! I wanted to just laze around in bed this morning and read and maybe sleep more but instead finally got ready and drove into work. Roads weren't too bad but I still slipped a bit, I hate that!

Mary, sympathy vomiting?!?!?! lol Same thing happens to me.

Vickie, so what you'd pick to do today? I hate getting interrupted during a w/o. Once I'm sweaty I normally want to finish :)

Murphy, what's the maniac w/o today for you?

BTW, I have lots of DOMS in the UB, I really pushed it hard yesterday and after my 2 wk hiatus, my muscles are saying, WTH? Feels good though!

Hi girls! Yesterday did the treadmill (got up to 6.8 mph) and the rower, today will be PH. Vickie, I get so irritable if my work out is interrupted! Usually it is just my kids arguing tho! Lisa, this weather does make one want to hibernate! It was 6 when I went to work, I wanted to run right back in the house! Hope you feel better! Ronne, I love to go to the movies, just not enough time! I do go for the romantic comedies tho! Murphy, haven't done BC in awhile, next time I do I will pay more attention! Have a good day! The dishwasher and washing machine are singing my name. Mary

Mary, WOW 6.8! Good for you! Don't you hate when those appliances sing your name? LOL It was -3 this morning, by the time I was driving in my car said it was 4. DH is in Omaha and all this cold is going that way. It's supposed to be 60s by Saturday!

My headache is finally better, got bad after I got to work, I think it's from all the glare from the morning sun and the sun bouncing off the snow. now that the sun is on the other side of the building much better....maybe I need to start wearing sunglasses at my desk in the mornings.... hahahaha

Murphy-Thank you, I've got so much to lose but I'm taking it one day at a time.

Ronne-Thanks for reminding me about Stretch Max I really need to get that out and use it.

Lisa- That's pretty dedicated to do a workout in the midst of a headache. You're a better woman than me:) I did 4DS kickbox premix again today. I wanted to do step, but my knees were still a bit sore. So, I gave them a break.

Scubagirl- That's amazing (6.8)! You must be a workout machine;) I also HATE to get interrupted during a workout. I'll just have to lock the gate next time;)

Well, it is snowing and I'm all in for the night. They think we may get 1-3 inches, but they are off so much lately, that I'll just have to get up in the morning and hope for the best. I'm ready for spring!

Vickie, I'm not sure I was so much dedicated as that I didn't want to drive into work yet. Where do you live? I'm in Denver,CO, our snow might be coming your way.

I did not want to get up this morning. I had a dream that I forgot to do something at work at it jolted me awake! I still overslept but I got up and did the STS TB single set premix. I served its purpose but I feel like I did not get a full workout. ???? It is 46 minutes and I used heavier weights and I worked so what's the problem? I am sure I will get over it. :)

Hi to all who follow. Happy DOMS!

Murphy
