40s Amazing August!

Good morning! Today did L&G, fun one! Murphy, tabatacize is a hard one! When will you get your port out? I would imagine it feels annoying in there. Lisa, did the rice help? The hip is no different than before surgery, he thinks the cortisone might work better because he changed the structure of the joint. I'm not a candidate for a replacement because I have no arthritis. Good news tho, I'm done with therapy! Yay! Jody, are you still working so much? Ronne, come home! Busy weekend, it is our city's homecoming weekend. So, we have a fair and parade. Twins are working the junior class booth, DD and smallest DS are marching with the band, so I might not make it back til Monday! Have a good one! Mary

I only walked the dogs 2 miles, and then did Cathe Live Imax workout. It was good but she did get confused a couple of times, ah the joy of live (yet taped) workouts :)

Mary, I read on the forums that L&G is good for the posterior chain, so go booty! Yea, for being done with therapy! You are doing awesome with navigating the workouts for you.

Murphy, don't kill yourself with weights, remember FORM is most important. I've accepted that it will be even longer than I thought with increasing weight and I may never get back to where I was, we are just so used to pushing it, yet what little we do now is more than the normal population! Using light-ish weights feels like nothing is getting worked, but it's keeping what we have!

Shout out to working-a-lot Jody and vacationing-a-long-time Ronne

Did MM today. Did not get crazy, increased a pound here and there. I was able to do the abs with no (major) problem. I hope that means that I am getting stronger and not that I was doing them wrong. LOL. Anyway, I am going to be away for a few days, see you next week. I plan to focus and not eat too much - I have started losing weight and I don't want to gain it back. Focus and discipline.

Mary - I won't get the port out until the end of the year - I hope. Glad you are done with physical therapy.

Lisa - you are right about taking it slow and using good form. It does get hard sometimes, but slow and steady wins the race.

Waves to Jody and Ronne.

Murphy

I did a 2.5 mile dog walk then did a spin/sculpt workout from studio sweat, wow, just wow! I feel like I'll be in burning calorie mode all day, haven't felt this worked since I did cardio coach running on the treadmill. I'm thinking of getting clip pedals and shoes now for the bike....

Murphy, WTG!!! ^5's!

Mary, enjoy the weekend!
Murphy, you, too! Stay focused!
Lisa, the reformer and spinner!
I've been working- 12 mon, 12 tues, 6 then later on 12 Thurs night, 12 Sat and 12 again tomorrow. Lisa, I wore a pedometer today- 1500 steps.

Hi Ladies

I'm back! Had a really great holiday, I feel very refreshed and relaxed. We did some great stuff, went to prehistoric art site cave, canoed for 2.5 hours down the Dordogne river, went to a castle, and a couple of small water parks. Weather was a bit mixed but we did get some nice sunshine apart from a couple of days. Apparently, France has had its worst summer for 50 years, July was a washout, so we did quite well, considering. House was lovely and in a beautiful setting and all the kids had a blast.
I've done nothing active apart from one yoga session and a bit of swimming but I actually feel OK, didn't overdo the food, pastries or wine!

Will catch up with you all personally during the week. :)

Welcome back Ronne! Sounds like a wonderful time, how in the heck did you stay away from the pastries and wine?

Jody, dang you are working hard girl!

Today I did a 2 mile dog walk, then 30 min of spinning and 1 hr on the Pilates reformer, I'm fried and need to rest now!

Oh and, I got me some spinning shoes and clip in pedals, at least some of my birthday money paid for some of it :)

Ronne, hi! What kind of river trip was it? I'll have to google the name of the river. Its nice to see you, I'm glad you had a nice time.

Lisa, I looked at my steps again yesterday. Same pedometer and it read 3500 yet I'm pretty sure I walked less than the 1000 step day. I guess I need a better piece of equipment. Tho a girl there had a fitbit and returned it, it was recording her as steps while she was driving? You are a genuine spinner now, how do you like your new shoes/clips? They are expensive? It seems like something you could bungee, lol.

Mary are you back yet? I got a membership to Costco, I'm trying to get my dd to go w/ me today.

Murphy, still road tripping?

My scale dropped 3 pounds after last week. Maybe working OT will make me rich and skinny. oops, I forgot to say I did LIC cardio step and blasts pm.

Yay! Ronne's home! We missed you! Sounds like a great trip! Jody, hope you get some much needed rest! 12 hours can be brutal. Enjoy Costco! I love that place, always go for lunch and the samples. Murphy, now I'm going to have to pull out MM! Lisa, you are working out A LOT. How do you like your new shoes? DH has a pair for his bike, most expensive pair of shoes in the house! And they are just for the bike, crazy. Weekend was busy, fair, back and forth to the park, the parade. Nice to see people in all one place. Kids did great in the parade, so cute! Saturday did ME, Sunday did PT, and this morning did Cathe live, all about legs. Hope everyone has a good day! Mary

I didn't sleep well last night, my hips/lower back was hurting, I'm wondering if it's from spinning. So I just took a nice leisurely walk with the dogs 3.75 miles and then did XT disc 2 bi/tri. I kept the weights within reason (8 pounds for bicep work, unless it's single arm then I can go up to 12), but I feel it a bit in my neck, so trying to get that to settle down with rice bag (I think that helps divert it from getting bad).

Jody, I know reviews of the fitbit flex (the wrist one) said it isn't as accurate (but I haven't noticed car making steps), the clip on ONE review said it is more accurate. Congrats on the wt loss, seems I have to work harder for mine  The cycling shoes wasn't nearly as expensive as my running shoes (that I use for walking the dogs), but then for spinning (not true road bike) you want the clips recessed. They were $90. I do notice a difference, not sure I like how the ones I picked feel OFF the bike..... forgot that some of the classes has sculpting parts inserted like lunges.... debating on going back for the other shoe that felt better maybe for off the bike, hnmmmmm.

Mary, I'm about ready (or my body is) to cut back some on the workouts, but I'm trying to hang in there and get my body RT ready.

Ronne, I'm pondering a river cruise in Europe sometime in my future.......

I did some research and found better shoes for less cost! So went up to REI, guess it's the end of the season sale on cycling stuff so got 25% off, so got $110 shoes for $85, Pearl Izumi brand that studio sweat recommends. The feel sooooo much better, can't wait for tomorrow's spinning!
Now I gotta take the others back.....

Hello

Didn't make it here yesterday - went to visit family, brother in law and family we haven't seen for a while. It was really nice to catch up.
I got Travel Fit done on Sunday, it wasn't too bad, thought it would be a good place to start.
Was planning to do something this pm, but our DVD player has packed up. The disk drawer won't open!! So, I will do something but not sure what now. Have to go and buy a new player soon!

Lisa - it sounds like you've been getting the workouts in. Did you have a nice birthday?
By the way, I didn't keep away from the wine and pastries completely, I just managed not to have them everyday! :p What's the point of going to France?!

Jody - it sounds like you've been busy working. How are you feeling about your new job?
I bet you and Lisa are on the countdown for the road trip now.

Mary - are you back at work now or still enjoying the school holidays?

Did 2.5 mile walk this morning then a 30 min spin to test out my new shoes, these feel much better and didn't flare up my PF. Taking it easy today as going for massage shortly, ah, I need it, my neck/shoulder muscle hurt yesterday, and today is just the DOM type feel.

Ronne, when in Rome do as the Romans do, so when in France, PARTAKE! :)

Hello! Today did Brooklyn bridge camp. Sweat fest! Lisa, enjoy that massage! Ronne, sorry about your DVD player, frustrating. I go back to work next Tuesday. I have been going to lots of meetings. Jody, hope you are getting some rest! Hi Murphy! Going to take these dogs for a walk. It's a challenge with the puppy, she's not quite sure what yo do yet! Have a good day! Mary

Hello

Mary - you're becoming a dog walker like Lisa! So do you get a bit of a break between the kids going back and you starting?

Lisa - are you going to spin classes or just doing it on your own? Wasn't there a point when you couldn't do spin?

Hi Jody if you're around.

Did AOLIH today. I set up DH's laptop in front of the TV so could workout as normal. I really felt it, although I think I'm fighting something off as well. Yesterday, I did a few Jessica Smith lower body things strung together to give about 50 mins.
DD gone to stay with her big sister so it's just DH and me for a couple of days. We're going to the cinema tonight to see a French film. Haven't been to the cinema together for ages.

Hello girls! Today did Rumble, missed hitting! Ronne, enjoy time with DH! Like another vacation! Lisa, how are you feeling after massage? Jody, are you still working? Hi Murphy! Not much today, cleaning, getting ready for school. Hope everyone has a good day! Mary

I'm having a low energy, blah type of day. Dog walk of 2.8 miles, I need to figure out a new route for days I need to stay off the off road paths(because of rainy days), the last 2 days I hit too much school traffic. The sound of cars for too long just makes it so unpleasant for me. I then tried KCM Plateau Buster premix, I did it for 20 min and just decided it wasn't what I wanted, finally decided on a Pilates reformer 60 min workout. I'm just proud of myself for sticking to it and doing something, many times I wanted to crawl back in bed and cover up my head and....(you finish the tune).

Ronne, I haven't been to the movie theatre in ages either, I'm so much more comfy at home so wait for it to come out on DVD. MY DVD player is on it's last legs and I better replace before I Run into what you did. I went to press the open/close and felt a click, now I have to press it with my fingertip to make sure it works, I can just see it stopping to work and here I am ready to go! Yes, early in my recovery I couldn't hold my head up without causing pain later when in the bike leaning on the bars, and the standing drills was too much for my neck, but it's ok now, the only thing is I STILL can't have the fan on me, if it blows on my left shoulder it will hurt the rest of the day no matter what, and I hate being hot! Massage lady thinks that might not get better and I'll have to deal with it.

Mary, I was actually not as sore as I thought I was (and normally am) for my massage, she said the neck was really good. No knots in left shoulder blade but extremely tight (and sore feeling to me). The other day when I did bi/tri, my head from bottom of skull to 1/2way up hurt on the back of head, I finally figured out it was from attempting incline curls on the ball (I only did about 5 before I gave up). I am getting there! I told massage lady how I busted out in tears at my birthday dinner when I was trying for a speech but ended up crying at the point when I turned to DH to tell him I never would have made it through everything without him. There were times I didn't think I'd make it to 50 and other times I didn't want to make it to 50. Massage lady said what I went through is a 10 on a scale of 1-10 (I always wanted to be a Bo Derek 10 :D ), she said she would put a hip replacement at a 5 from her point of view. Anyway, I never would have made it without DH, my family, friends and YOU ALL!

Murphy (and all), massage lady said women can build strength with light weights... we build more strength in the tendon where it inserts into bone (and hence will help with osteoporosis), whereas men build more in the belly of the muscle. And not surprisingly, you get more strength on the eccentric (the one going down) doing it slowly. Hope that makes sense.

Mary, I thought that was sort of a pocket book dog, not a leash dog? Yes, I'm putting in some hours~~
Ronne, ooo la la, a French film, tres chic, enchant e, croissant! I hope you fight off whatever might be bugging you.
Lisa, that is interesting about massage thoughts on women and muscle building. I've not heard that before so I'd like to see the research, or at least read the article about the research, lol. I'm glad you made it to 50!
I did Step Fit today this morning and Flex Train this eve, my first time for that one. So an oldie and a newie. I'm off to bed early, I'm on tomorrow days and then Fri and Sat night shift if I don't get cancelled.

Hello

Jody - what did you think of FT?

Lisa - your massage therapist is a wealth of knowledge! I know those kind of days, well done for finding something that worked. I don't know how long it's been since you bought a DVD player, but a lot has changed! I bought ours 7 years ago and the price has plummeted. There are only a handful of simple DVD players that don't do anything else but they are so cheap. I'm paying a third of what I paid last time.

Mary - do you do the extended stretch on Rumble? I tried it last time but skipped a few repetitions.

Made up my own UB weights workout today! I was all set to do KCM SS UB on DH's laptop but the DVD wouldn't play. I didn't want to get another DVD and then have to set up the equipment so I just did my own thing. Did 3 sets of back/chest, bi/tri and shoulders supersets. Took about 35 mins and I didn't go heavier than 12lbs. Felt good.

Tonight we're going to the pub with some work colleagues of DH's. Making the most of DD being away!
