~~40 & Over New Year Week Check in!~~

Hi ladies!

Another newby!! Welcome Tobermory!

Veronika - I hope you and your family get better real soon. Theres sooo many nasties going around, we get more than our fair share here too. I'm Australian.

Lisa - I'm doing FF's Jan one too. I read the check in but I'm not checking in, because I don't have PS and I'm not too sure what to do next week. But I'm loving the rotation!

Mary - AHH yeah, my bis are fried and talking to me today. Luckily I didn't eat any chicken - without knowing that old wives tale;). Now that I've been reading the thread I'll be able to go a bit heavier (I think)

Vilma - I should have my Charlean by late next week. It arrived to be sent out to me on NYE, so the hold up with teh holiday and now the weekend, I'll expect it last next week. Thanks for the heads up on PS, Lisa advised me to have a look at the video. But you know what? I reckon, $60 (thats Aust dollar) is a lot of money for DVDs that are very very dated nowadays. I won't be purchasing them at this stage.

Todays workout was 1.5 mins long, Cardio Tae Bo, Buts and Guts ABs, followed by a quick Yoga hip work.

I've been doing some reading about peri menopause. I've have waaaaay more "symtoms". So I think I'll go and have my hormone levels checked or just go speak to my GP anyway. I'm better off burying my head in the sand.

Happy Friday everyone! I did the FF PLB standing legs and PUB/MM shoulders today. That was a long workout and I got a late start today because I slept in because I woke up AGAIN in the middle of the night and couldn't get back to sleep....it's time for the hormones to cause this. If I could get the sleep thing fixed I'd be a happy perimenopausal woman!

Veronika, sorry to hear your sick, are your kids young too? Those young ones catch everything and pass it on.

Andrea, I think I'm going to use 4DS instead of PS for the FF rotation. I'm almost starting to cave on the Chalean workouts. Seems a lot are liking them.

Vilma, any review from you on the Chaleans?

Bye for now!

Hello,
Yes, we are still sick and i won't be working out today. My ears and throat are bothering me and I must have an ear infection because I feel dizzy. I had to go back to bed and take a nap. and it is only 1:15 pm. Yes the children are all young, 11years to 4, so I still have to take care of them .DH is home so that is good but he is just as sick as I am. How sad!

What is the Chalean workout and where do i go and check it out. I am such a diehard Cathe fan that I feel like a traitor if I were to buy something not done by her. But , I notice so many other workouts being done on this forum.

Veronika

Well Hello There Ladies!

Hope you all had a nice New Year's Day.

It was a quiet one for us as we ended up going to the movies and then dinner, last night.

Today is just holiday clean up and laundrymax

Thankfully the medicines my children have been on seem to be working - no more choking episodes and breathing is getting back to normal.

Andrea we didn't do the NYE celebration either - dh was working and so it was just me and the kiddos. Watched the ball fall on TV and that was that.
I'm not much for parties at all maybe when I was younger but now I just rather be home instead.

I need to read up more on perimenopause myself sighs I just ordered a menstrual cup as my insides are drying up w/ tampons where before I never had issues w/ dryness during TOM - weird.

Mary I've never heard of that old wives tale before - oh boy because at the restaurant I had a creamy chicken w/ rice soup lol
I wish our library had good stuff but every time I go in there I am always so disappointed- I can not wait until we put our house up for sale in 15-18 months and can move to the capital city.

Lisa When I am ready to go back to traditional weight work I'll pick up FF's Dec & Jan rotations. I have been peeking in on those checkins and see what you've all been talking about :) I've done her rotations in the past and they are excellent.

For now I'm having a grand ol' time w/ my kettlebells to give them up. Actually my 16kg kbell is out for delivery today so I'll be using it later on when I ladder up & down my swings - thats what I got it for ;) Times when I just don't feel like a dvd I'll just do my own rounds using my kettlebells, usually I end up more sore for days lol.

I have not ordered CLX at all - although I'm highly interested in it. If there was a way to integrate these periodization programs w/ kettlebells I would probably be on the bandwagon. If anything I'm waiting for STS reviews as I canceled my preorder when I got heavily into kettlebells as I was in a workout slump this summer - remember? I needed something different & new.

Veronika so sorry to hear your family is dealing w/ a nasty crud. I swear if you ask the ladies hear they can tell you how much I deal with it here too... bleck

Tobermory - Welcome! Glad you can join our checkin :)

Okie Dokie Gals I'm off to peruse the forums ;) Boy was I chatty or what

Lisa and Andrea, did you see FF post on the breakdown of the PS workout. It seems very easy to follow if you don't have the workout. And it may work to your advantage because mentally you won't be going by how much weight Cathe is lifting. I know that is all psychological but it really plays with your head.

Lisa, I went to the Cathe road trip and I just can't get over how much you look like the girl i was sitting next to. I started working out to Cathe about two years ago with Cathe after not working out on a regular basis for 10 years. Then my sis introduced me to Cathe but it still was hit or miss. Last Jan. is when I really dedicated myself to working out. The eating part is still not good but I have noticed that just working out has improved my endurance and toning. and now I can actually finish a Cathe workout. When I started I thought I was never going to make it. I was so sad and dissapointed that I was so out of shape. A year later, I am much stronger and have muscles. I still have a layer of fat covering these muscles but they are there and my family notices and comments every once in a while. I love cooking and it is real hard to make anything fat free. This is where my problem lies. anyone else relate?

As a matter of fact while I am typing here I am watching a baking show.

Hi everyone! Hope you are having a good day. My legs are still tired from PLB yesterday, and today was BM2! I don't really care too much for that one, I like the original better! Veronika, I too am a baaad eater! Love my cookies and sweets and salt! Would hate to see what I would look like if I didn't w/o! Hi Vilma, I need to clean the house and get rid of Christmas, too! Have fun! Well, the children are screaming , gotta go! BBL. Mary

Hi guys.

Did you hear that John Travolta's 16 y.o son died today in the Bahamas! Gosh thats sad news. Kathyrns' in the Bahamas.

Today I did the PLB, but used a 16inch platform for the leg presses. Now, I don't have a high step, so I make do putting my little ol' step up to three risers (usually) and I go really really heavy. Today, using the higher platform, I had to lighten the weight! Lighten the weight! I was fried! OMGoodness! I will probably do it again as I am insane :).

Lisa - i am going to stick with the rotation as is. After much confusion, i've worked out Debbies break down of the PS. I've written it all down and will continue. I had to find out what w/u meant! Dumbell shrugs - are they shrugging the shoulders holding weights?

Veronkia and Mary - Yep, i am a very very bad bad eaterer too. Love my sweets - lollies and chocolate.

Vilma - The more I read about perimenopause the more I don't understand. They have a few very "basic" symptoms. Hot flashes, night sweats, headaches, vaginal dryness, itchy sensation under the skin, anxiety, moodiness. Couple of others that I can't remember right now. i'm trying to find out more about the "cycles" and the changes, if any. And most of the sites "seem" to minimise these symptoms too. They say, most women are O.K going through this, this a small percentage of women who have severer symptoms and some go on hormone replacement therapy. That description I find slightly insulting. Maybe i am just being hormonal today!

Keep me posted on your thoughts and investigations, i am very interested.

Veronika and Murph - Hope everyones feeling a bit better in your households.

Just a quick fly by. Sorry for the lack of personals! I did CF all step premix. My legs/glutes are sore from the leg workout yesterday, good thing that I have time to recover before our day ski trip Monday. We found a sweet deal on lift tickets too!

I'm a lover of sweets and it takes a lot of willpower to not eat them. I'd say the threat of diabetes in the family is a bigger sway to not eat them than a smaller waist. I take after my Mom so much, she'd eat her dinner just so she could have dessert. I'm trying to not do that and hopefully have a longer life span!

Andrea, here's an example of a dumbbell shrug, HTH.

Andrea, I don't have a high step either, I use the full size step with 2 risers and then the little step with 1 riser and I think that equals almost the same height that Cathe uses in the high step. My set up is 14" that I use. There's no way I'd go higher as my heart gets up high on those leg presses anyway ( I don't like leg presses at all ). Good on you!

I'm back!

Happy New Year to all my 40+ pals! I just got back from the Bahamas last night, and I'm happy to check in before I start unpacking (ugh!).

The weather was pretty good. You'd think it would be hot there, but this time of year it doesn't get into the 80s, and is often windy. If it's the least bit cloudy, you can feel pretty chilly when swimming. I have a short-sleeve wetsuit top that came in very handy. Un-stylish, yes, but at least I wasn't shivering like so many other (including my kids)!

We saw Magic Johnson while in Ben & Jerry's one night. (Okay, I actually did eat ice cream ... and everything else! ;) ) He was very nice and signed a couple of autographs while there. DH thinks he saw Leonardo DiCaprio at the fitness center the day after we arrived, but he wasn't sure. (I worked out in the room with Cathe videos). And the death of John Travolta's son was headline news there. It's very sad -- I can't imagine losing a child. It's got to be the worst thing ever.

I'll admit that I took a complete break from eating well, so now I've got my work cut out for me in the New Year. But it was fun and I'm so glad that we were all healthy enough to be able to go!

Welcome to Veronika and Tobermory. I'm glad to see we have a couple of new members. Veronika, I grew up in CT also. I can't say that I miss the winters, but I really feel the cold and prefer living in the less-chilly South!

I'd love to write more, but have to face the suitcases ... So Happy New Year to Lisa, Mary, Andrea, Vilma, Murphy, Ronne, Rhondalyn (if you're lurking),Veronika, Tobermory and anybody else I may have missed!

Hi everyone! Hope you had a good weekend. I just finished putting away Christmas, now the house looks naked! I took a rest day yesterday, today will be PS back and biceps with BM2, should be interesting! Kathryn, so glad to see you back, You were so good to w/o on vacation! I'm glad you had such a nice time! Lisa, I saw your weights over on FF rotation, HOLY COW!!! You are doing a great job! Andrea, I did the PLB w/o on Thurs, my hamstrings and calves are still sore! Vilma, what is a menstral cup? Sounds interesting. Veronika, hope you are all feeling better. Hi to Ronne, Murphy, Tobermory, and anyone else that follows, talk to you later! Mary
