3 months from today...

...I'll be running the Saint George marathon on Saturday October 1st.

If I can run it in 4 hours and 59 seconds then I will have qualified to run Boston. At this point I say it's doable but there are so many variables that can affect the outcome. I haven't mentioned this to anyone but you all. I don't know why, but I don't want to tell anyone that I'm working toward that goal.

In the event that I don't qualify I think I'll hang up my full marathon shoes and stick with 1/2 marathons and less. Then I'm gonna really concentrate on muscle building. A girl's got to have some sort of fitness goal..

You can do it!!! I understand about keeping you goal to just us, and I'll be rooting for you.

That's fantastic, Elaine! It's good to have goals and it's a women's prerogative to change them when she sees fit! And I totally understand about not telling anyone. I don't think anyone around me would understand but I know you guys would and this is where I would get the most support.

That's an awesome goal and you can do it!!!! Keep us updated on your training and we will encourage and support you the whole way through. Best of luck on qualifying for the Boston Marathon. Even if you don't qualify, you still ran a marathon and that is something worth celebrating also.

Awesome goal!!! Yes it is true about the many variables that can affect the outcome. One of my best starts in a marathon, I ended up drinking bad water about 13 miles into the run, yes I should have spit it out! My stomach started cramping at mile 17 and I was trying for a 3:40...but ended up walking some and finished in 4 hours.

Stick to your training schedule, get enough rest (take one day off a week), eat well and that will be a great base for you.

Ever run a 30K? (18.6 miles) They are quite fun and as I age I prefer trail runs as they are easier on the body...Good luck and keep us updated Elaine...:)...Carole

>Carole? Just curious. What is bad water?

It is water that doesn't taste right. Hard to explain unless you have tasted nasty tap water. It was a marathon in a big city and I don't think all of the water given out was fresh. I learned to carry my own after that...:)...Carole
