I am having a long, lazy, rainy weekend and LOVING it. Yesterday I got to sleep late, go to the gym, organize the apartment (we even turned the mattress; it's probably been a year since the last time we turned the mattress). I even watched a movie! (Million Dollar Baby. Very sad.)

What's everyone else up to?

Hi Nancy!

So GLAD to hear you are getting to enjoy your rainy weekend!! Goodness knows, you certainly deserve one! Million Dollar Baby is a real tear jerker...boo hoo. I had no idea when I watched it that it was going to be so sad. I thought maybe it would be the female version of Rocky. I enjoyed it though. I like a good cry every now and again.

Hubby and I are just cuddling up with a few movies ourselves today. We decided to forego the chores and just nestle. But, now that you've mentioned it...maybe we'll turn the mattress over first...haha

Enjoy yourself!!!!!!!:)

Sounds like you ladies are having a very nice weekend. My SIL and her DH were over last night so we had the fire pit going and we had hot dogs, chili, and smores. :p Then we sat around talking for most of the evening after we put the boys to bed.

Maybe I should go turn my mattress too. ;-)

Me too Lisa! I had no idea it would be so sad, and also thought it would be like a female version of Rocky. But wow, Eastwood is a superb director with a lot to say. I'm not sorry I saw it.

I'm glad you're having a relaxing weekend!

I just started a new job in August. And guess what I have a three day weekend every week!! I love it. My work week seems like it's over just as it's starting.

I agree about MDB- I was so pumped up to see a movie about a women boxer and then BAM!!!

shhhhwing!!! ;) Got that right, baby ;) 3 day weekends RULE! Especially when DH is home to help with the boybster. Oh yeah....

Oh my gosh. Like you guys, I thought MDB was going to be like a Rocky flick...well I watched it on a flight from Seattle to Atlanta and was boohooing for the last 30 minutes!! This was not good as I was traveling with business associates! I was continually trying to get my mind on something else to control the none stop faucet!

I thought it was a great movie though. :) :)

Jo

Agree with all of you on MDB. I also was expecting Rocky and wow.. how sad.. Saw it in the movie theater. My son is going to be watching it in HS for Film writing course. That will be tough for 16/17 year old boys - how to respond.

Agree I love the long weekend - but I dont have Monday off - at least my son does and then they get the jewish holiday off thursday and they had last tuesday.

Nice to have these breaks!

Nancy,

Me, too! I took Monday off for a Mental Health vacation day. I sure need it. Right now I feel so relaxed and calm. I love 3-day weekends!! I am so glad you're enjoying yours, too!! :7

First things first- Million Dollar Baby had me crying for weeks. Weeks! I have purposefully forgotten that Gaelic word (was that it?) for "my blood". I couldn't handle remembering it any more. I saw it in the theatres, and I'm tearing up even thinking about it right now. I had no idea going in what it was about, I was just impressed with her training for the film. And, may I just say, I think Eastwood is fabulous in his use of female characters. They are bright well-rounded and (usually) grounded women all the way through- and not just the main woman, but all of them. I love that. And, since I'm on the subject, I saw Eastwood in person at his restaurant (yes, I have convinced myself he was playing the piano near our table so that he could serenade US, not any of his friends he was with) and it's amazing how in person he has an extra light around him. Love that.

Also love the long weekend!!! I was supposed to read BFFM and get started on that this weekend, but haven't yet. I've been doing long workouts and cooking. I made applesauce last night and canned it this morning. Yikes! I've never canned stuff by myself before- I always ask my mom to help. This time, I tried it on my own. I'm planning to give the canned sauce instead of cookies at Christmas, since everyone always says they wish they didn't eat all the cookies right away.

Having dinner at a good friend's house tonight, and DH should be home soon and we're both taking tomorrow off so we can see each other a little bit! (Yesterday, he went to work at noon, got home at 3am, went back in at 7am and I haven't seen him yet.)

Long post- I guess I'm up to quite a bit!!! ;) The long weekends are marvelous. I also got a tiny bit of studying in there, too!

How do you all get a three-day weekend?
I have one because Friday was our mid-term break.
I used Friday to catch up on preparation for a presentation I'm giving at a conference in two weeks. I was in my office (no one else around), and the phone rang. Thinking it was a friend who calls the office when she can't get me at home, I answered. It was an ADD student I have who had one little question on the material he was reviewing for the test. I answered the question and went back to work. 5 MINUTES LATER, he calls again, with another little question, which I answer. 10 minutes later, the phone rings, and I unplug it because I can't deal with constant interruptions when I'm trying to think. About an hour and a half later, there's a knock on my office door, and I hear a familiar cough. Sorry, but I didn't answer. It was my day off, I was busy, and the guy had already annoyed me.

Yesterday (Saturday), I vegged and watched some movies.

Today, I'm semi-vegging and semi-preparing, like a typical Sunday.

Kathryn, I don't have a 3 day weekend but I know our Canadian friends have holiday on Monday. If anyone else is off, I don't know why! :)

Jo

I have a midterm break from class Mon and Tues. No class Mon because of Columbus Day.

I took Monday off since DH has the day off. It does mean I have to work Wednesday instead. :(

Guys, we have a 3-day weekend because Monday is Columbus Day. Some workplaces have it off and others don't. But I think most do?

Amy, where is his restaurant? Did you notice that Eastwood wrote the music for the movie? Pretty impressive.

I'm still going strong with my weekend here. Did PUB today and went to the gym afterward. Then went shoe shopping. I've been cleaning shelves like crazy.

Now I'm trying to pick a movie to watch. I'm thinking maybe Monster-in-Law. I know it got awful reviews, but there just don't seem to be any good comedies out on DVD or on pay-per-view now. And it's hard for me to believe that Jane Fonda could be in a movie which is THAT bad. At least I doubt it will make me cry.

Glad I inspired everyone to turn their mattresses!! :+

-Nancy

Does that mean that we don't get mail tomorrow? :-( (I HATE those kinds of holidays!:p But at least UPS still delivers.)

Nope, no mail tomorrow. Supposedly, everyone will be too busy celebrating the discovery of America by shopping at malls. Hey, I'm jiggy wit it. A day off is a day off. :+

I love anything Clint Eastwood does! MDB deserved all the Oscars it received.

I saw a really good sports movie yesterday - "61*" an HBO movie (2001) about the home run race in 1961 between Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris. I came upon it after doing a search on Netflix for Billy Crystal movies - he directed it. Just fantastic!

Just Do It! :)

Hi Nancy!

You're so right that we do appear to shop to celebrate Columbus day...haha.

I know Monster-in-Law got bad reviews, but I'd say go for it if you haven't already. Jane Fonda makes it VERY worth the time!!

Shoe shopping...I'm so jealous..haha.

I have to work today, so please have some fun for me, okay?

You deserve it, Girl!!!:)

P.S. Glad you're "jiggy wit it"...too funny!
