2nd day of the dreaded flu, should I workout?

This seems like a silly question, but I had IMax with some other stuff scheduled for Monday. On Monday I felt somewhat tired (no I'm not overtraining people) so I did the first segment of Kick Max and second segment of Core Max thinking I was going to do whatever I was supposed to do on Monday the next day. On Tuesday I felt extremely tired. One of my coworkers had to leave with flu symptoms and I guess I caught it from her. I only felt tired so I said ok I'll workout on Wenesday. Yesterday I woke up with flu and sinus symptoms: all my muscles hurt, I got a sore throat, I'm dizzy, etc. I went to work anyways and it made things worse so when I was back I was in bed all night. Today I woke up worse than yesterday, but as the day progresses I'm feeling better, the question is should I skip my workout today AGAIN, should I do something lighter (for example the step portion of Low Max), or should I do what I had scheduled for Monday? What would you do?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Thanks Judy. I will check my temperature before I attempt to workout. I've read it is dangerous to exercise when you're sick, but I'm feeling better now (not 100% better yet), but I would hate to miss another workout and besides I lost my appetite and I'm not eating as I should. I think that if I exercise I'll get my appetite back.

If your not eating like you should, then your body is lacking fuel. Your body is giving you a hint now with the tiredness. IMO, you should rest before your body gives out completely.

I think you should rest. Your body needs time to heal and you need to refuel. I don't think your body can support exercise when you aren't eating. ;)

I've been eating, but I'm not hungry so I'm eating less than what I normally eat when I'm not sick and I'm exercising regularly. I took my temperature and I have 99.2 deg F The normal body temperature is 98.6 deg F and MY normal temperature is around 97. Yesterday it was over 100 so it's going down. I think I'll "enjoy" my sick day and stay in bed. Hopefully I'll feel better during the afternoon and I can do some exercise. I'll probably have to eat a big meal before attempting any kind of exercise today.

Your body is already under stress from fighting off the flu; don't add to that stress by exercising. Isn't this just common sense? Would you rather take a few days off to fight this bug, or prolong the illness by overstretching.

I hope you feel better soon. I run into that dilemma at times when I become ill. My problems usually always begin with upper respiratory symtoms which I try to exercise through and sometimes I get better. Other times I end up completely crashed and it takes 3 or 4 days for me to recover and try to get my energy back. I would take it easy too and maybe when you do start up, I know you will be anxious but maybe start up with just the step portion of Low Max just to see how you feel when your finished. Once again I hope your feeling better.

Another vote to rest. Missing a few workouts isn't going to matter in the big scheme of things. Pushing yourself could make things worse and extend the amount of time you're sick. It's not worth it.

No! Listen to your body! I worked out through my last bout of bronchitis/phneumonia until I was so short of breath I couldn't walk. If you must workout, do yoga or stretching. Wait until the body aches go away, that is a sign of a very active virus. FEEL BETTER SOON!

Rest, rest, and rest until you are better. Missing working out a few days will not hurt you, but working out while sick probably will. There is no reason or benefit to working out when you are sick...fever or not. There are times when your body screams REST ME and this is one of those times. I hope you feel better really soon!

Hi everybody. I have to say you were all right. Yesterday morning I woke up and my body was telling me to get some rest (even when I slept about 8-9 hrs the night before). So that's what I did I slept it off. I went to bed again at about 11:30am and woke up at 3 or 4 pm (crazy the things that this bug does to you.) Then I had a sandwich with turkey breast I had for dinner the night before, a little bit of cheese and lettuce, yogurt, and a low fat shake. My body aches were 90% gone by 6pm. An hour after dinner, about 8pm or so, I did 20 mins of very light low impact cardio because I felt a whole lot better, but I didn't want to overdo it so I stopped at 20 mins and did 2 sets of 3 compound exercises with light weights, then I stretched my muscles and I was done in about 35 mins or so. I think the light cardio helped to unclog my sinuses which is what I'm dealing with now. All the other flu symptoms (body aches, nausea, fever, dizziness, etc.) are gone. I guess I must be healthy if I can beat the flu in 2 days. I'm easing into it slowly though. I don't want to put my muscles to more stress after what they've been through this week. So today I still don't know what I'll end up doing, probably the low impact premix of KM and some abs, but I really doubt I'll be doing IMax today. Thank you all again for all your replies.
