2-1/2 miles....I'm back at it again.

Hey everybody:

I went out and ran 2-1/2 miles just now and feel GREAT! I ran a 1/2 marathon in spring of 2003 and it was the biggest goal I've ever achieved regarding fitness and exercise. Well, I've been in a huge rut lately. Work is very demanding and I really need to lose about 50 pounds. I'm very active and love Cathe workouts - that's for sure!!! But, now I realize that I dearly miss running, too. It's such a wonderful way to let your mind wander and just feel the moment. I'm very excited now to add running into my exercise schedule along with Weight Watchers and, of course, CATHE!! I should hopefully get to my goal within a year or so.

Now - on to a question for all you runner's out there. What type of a diet do you concentrate on with running? More protein to help lose the weight and build muscle or carbs for energy??? AND, one more, how about strength training, what types of workouts do you do? I have most all of Cathe's, but not sure which ones would help me the most. Any advice would be great!

I find that what works best for me is to do as Cathe says and eat 6 small CLEAN meals a day. This way, I can get enough cals in depending on how hard I've worked out, without the cals being empty ones, or having to limit myself on amts and then feeling like I'm STARVING. I hate that.

If I eat very clean, I can eat enough (not too much) for the day in question, but I am assured that they are clean calories. I think every day is different........ Some days (like if you run a long way) you may need more food, and other days less. If I were on a certain amt of food (as in point systems, or whatever) I would end up either starving some days, or eating junk, That's just me. Does WW allow for high activity days. Are there adjustments?

Yay, Marcia! It's so good to "see" you! Congratulations on a job well done! Isn't running delicious? LOL!

My recommendation is carbs. At least 50-60% of your total caloric intake should be carbs. I do 60-65 percent myself with about 15 from protein and 20-30 from fat. Mostly, I flip flop the protein/fat numbers and keep my carb intake high. Very complex carbs.

So, what's uyp with you? I hope you are well. How's the family? Are you gearing up for the coming school year? My kids go back on the 10th of August and Sam's a 1st grader. The three of them in school all day! I have a fantasy my house will stay clean and I'll have loads of free time! LOL!

Hey Bobbi - good to hear from you too. :) It's been a long time!

Thanks for the advice, I just knew you'd help me out on any running advice. ;-)

I am doing great! EXTREMELY busy, though. I received a kind of promotion at work, well, I'm not sure if it's a promotion or just more responsibility and work. :) BUT, I love it just the same. I'm editor of the school district's paper!!! Yes, school starts up soon, but I'm not ready for eveybody to come back. July is "usually" a slow month and I get completely caught up and ready for the next year to start, but not this year. UGH! There's been one thing happening after another between work and home so I'm busier than ever! :) Our bar is busy, too. Tonight we have a comedian coming and we've sold out of the tickets we were selling, so it will be a BUSY night. But, those are always the funnest, too.

Have you kept in touch with the others from Yahoo? I tried to go back there a few weeks ago, but they canceled my account since I went so long without using it. I was just too busy for everything. :)
