1st OTC diet drug approved by FDA

If it works as claimed, yes - an extra 2 to 3 pounds for every 5? That can add up. However... it does sound very unpleasant!!

Sounds like that Olestra stuff that they added to chips awhile ago...may cause anal leakage! YUCK No thanks. :)

Here is the website for this stuff:

Does alli have side effects?
In many cases, that’s up to you. alli works by preventing the absorption of some of the fat you eat. The fat passes out of your body, so you may have bowel changes, known as treatment effects.

You may have:

gas with oily spotting
loose stools
more frequent stools that may be hard to control

Sounds like a good time, lol! Why didn't I think of this? "Let's make a pill that makes everyone get the runs and lose weight while they're doing it..." Brilliant... Question is, are they losing the extra 2 pounds from having the runs or from the pill actually doing something???

I did try this stuff called Xenical about three years ago,I got tired of the "unpleasent" odor, and the "leakage".I had to wear panty liners too! I know, yuk!I did it for about a month.I also rememember it being expensive(90$/mnth supply).I don't rememember loosing any weight, maybe didn't take it long enough!

If you buy it,buy some panty liners!:p
and good luck!

Amy:)

I don't know about that, but I do know I am absolutely in LOVE with Slimquick. I just started it a couple of weeks ago. It's anti-stress factor actually works for me. Nothing has ever worked, not even St. Johns. I really think the stress factor was preventing my scale from budging. I can now safely say I'm now a size 14 jeans, from 16 two weeks ago. I eat 5-6 times a day and exercise with Cathe faithfully.

Just my 2 cents;-)

I am beginning to believe that this must be an aversion therapy...eat fatty foods and you will smell bad and your butt will hurt. YUCK!

The theory behind this sounds similar to the chitosan products that were popular a few years ago. One big drawback of those was that they inhibit the body's absorption of fat soluble vitamins like A,D,E, and K.

Never mind, what I said sounded too b*tchy & I didn't want it to. So instead of spending hours trying to make it not sound b*tchy, I'll retract.

RE: Tom Venuta Addresses Alli (Orlistat)

Tom's article brought up a good point, that peolple on the pill may have ate less for fear of unpleasant consequences. Too bad most people can't eat less fatty foods for the fear of the consequence of obesity.

RE: Tom Venuta Addresses Alli (Orlistat)

Kathryn,
Goodness knows, I respect your opinion here and at VideoFitness. You always have helpful and intelligent advice, but I'm not sure it's fair to call those of us dumb who need a little help. I know it's not your quote, but still I don't think it's acceptable for this article to call people dumb. Some of us are exercising 5 to 6 times per week one hour each workout and watching our calories, and still having trouble losing weight. I think it's okay that the FDA has approved a pill that will help some of us on our journey. I plan to try out the Alli pill when it's available. I might only be able to stand a couple days of the side affects, but I am going to give it a try.

Respectfully,
Lisa
