12 wks pregnant and the hips are gaining!

Hi, this is my 2nd pregnancy and I was exercising faithfully 5 days a week before the pregnancy. Now I am 12 wks and have only been exercising 1-2 x a week due to fatigue and terrible nausea. My problem is, my hips and butt are growing fast!!! And I am getting upset. I know I have to exercise more and watch what I am eating (bec I have been bad with that too). But I just need some motivation or a good kick in the butt. Is this common in 2nd pregnancies, for all the fat to be going to my hips? I have only gained 2 lbs so far, but believe me, it feels like 10 all on my hips. I think that is bec I have probably lost some muscle and that is why the scale doesn't look that different.

I feel your pain! I am pregnant with my 4th and with my first 3 I worked out right up to the end and my hips/butt did not gain that much. This time, I have not been able to do cardio or weights since week 15 due to some bleeding and contractions and its been really tough. I am currently 33 weeks and have only gained 18 lbs so far but my hips and butt have grown a lot. I think my fat is expanding without the workouts. I just keep telling myself its all worth it in the end but I hate how my lower body is looking now :(

I wish I had more encouraging words for you but at least I can empathize with you.

Marci

Marci....man girl you are doing great, only 18 pounds, congratulations. I always seem to expand in the butt and legs when I get pregnant. I'm not doing quite as bad this time, but it's still the first place that it's added, yuck!! So it sounds like this is pretty normal, but still not nice. With my first four pregnancies I measured about 6-8 inches bigger in my tush and legs, I hate to look back at pictures, but alas thanks to Cathe we will all bounce back post pregnancy (maybe a few xtra LL days??) right girls??!!

Briee

Briee - You sure got that right about the LL!!! Debbie - I am only 3 months pregnant with my second child and I too am noticing a change in the butt area! :( Don't feel bad! Hopefully your tiredness and nausea will subside soon. I have been working out religiously since I got pregnant, but the bootie is still spreading! Of course, we all know it is totally worth it, considering the outcome!!!:D
Just think how much fun we will have getting the weight off with the new body blast series!!! :p

Thanks everyone for your posts. It does make me feel better to know that it is pretty common for the fat to be going all on my hips and butt. I had a great workout yesterday and it really helped me out. I wrote out a calendar of all my workouts I plan on doing, I think this will help my motivation. Thanks again!

Briee,
Thanks, I learned my lesson with my first 3 kids. I gained 65 lbs EACH!!!! I swore I would not do that this time and am surprised I'm still having the hip/butt spread. I thinks its a combo of not working out right now and also our bodies are programmed to store or redistrubute fat there to provide stores to feed the baby.

How are you feeling?? I know you have almost the same due date as me. I'm feeling so tired and getting TONS of BH contractions. I'm ready for this to end and meet my little Rachel finally. I'm being induced 12/1 (due to a history of FAST labors) so I've only got 4 1/2 weeks to go (or less if she comes earlier on her own)

Marci

Marci, I too learned my lesson and gained 60 pounds with all of the first four babies. The last two I'm doing pretty well and will probably gain a total of 25-30, but that back end always spreads no matter what, ugh!!

I'm feeling really good now and thanks for asking. The first two trimesters I was tired and yucky and I thought it would just continue forever, but I'm finally enjoying pregnancy now, FINALLY. I've got energy now and I feel like working out again, after many rest days mind you!!!! I did throw up again last night (can you believe it - still), but haven't done that in a while. I've had a lot of nausea this pregnancy, not severe, just there. x( x( x(

I can't believe you only have 4 1/2 weeks to go. I get BH ALL the time and have for a long time. I have a history of them starting in the third month and they just continue. I ignore them, but they are getting harder to ignore as they make me feel like I have to go to the bathroom when my uterus gets really hard. Lots of practise I guess for the real thing - it should be in great shape!!

Hopefully your tiredness won't get you too bad and remember only 4 1/2 weeks to go!!!! That's not long at all!! (and I LOVE the name Rachel :7 :7 :7

Briee

Briee,
I'm glad you are feeling better! I'm jealous that you can workout. I have been told by my Dr. to stop until 6 weeks postpartum because I was having too many contractions and have spotted some this pregnacy throughout. I can't wait to workout again.

25-30 is great!! You should be able to get right back in shape after that. Hopefully you don't have too much longer either. I've always loved the name Rachel and am glad my DH liked it also. My little girl (Amy Nicole is her name) was named after my DH's mother who died when he was a child so I was really happy we could honor her in that way. I registered with Amy Nicole because when I orginally registered a few years ago, Marci was taken by someone other than me!! My daughter was only 1 at the time so I did not think she would mind I stole her name for a fitness board LOL!

What will your baby be named?

Oh my....what will my baby be named....this question is a source of frustration in my extended family as we have waited sometime up to 3-4 months to name the baby believe it or not, and this makes them absolutely crazy!! I will tell you what were leaning towards if it's a boy...Ezra ??? or possibly Christian ???? If it's a girl I have absolutely NO idea. I really do like Rachel, and I like Grace, but I just don't know. I've always said the hardest part of homebirth is naming the baby because you don't have to have the baby named in order to leave the hospital.

I know what we're NOT doing.... When our 4th was born, a boy, we couldn't decide on a name..I wanted Noah, my dh, wanted Enoch, and we both like Elijah (Eli for short), so we agreed that we would put the names in a hat and I would pick the name (this was after 3 months of indecision). Wouldn't you know it I picked Enoch (I was so mad!!!), but we left it and his name is Enoch Simeon, and there is not another that I have run into. You can pretty much expect that when I announce this baby it will be "baby boy" or definitely "baby girl" as I have no clue what to name a girl. I'd really like to find something different.....just don't know what yet.:7 :7 :7

I have a few more questions to ask you Marci, can I email you off the board? If I remember correctly, your husband is an endocrinologist correct??

Briee

Hi Briee,
You can email me at [email protected]

I was so surprised this baby was a girl- I was SO sure I was having a boy. and like I said I always wanted to use the name Rachel so I set up a new email account :)

He is a physician but he has a different specialty. I would rather not say what it is in the same post as my email address so email me and I'll let you know.

Naming a child is so hard, I always have this insecurity of what if they grow up and don't like their names. I have never really liked my name and when I looked up Marci in a name book I was shocked to learn the meaning was War!! I'm about the most non violent person you could ever meet so my name was definately not fitting my personality. Oh well.
