Later on, before dinner, I plan to hit the ship's track for a 2 mile run.

Hope everyone has a great week and pray that I don't destroy any gains I've made doing this challenge while on this vacation!

Bon Voyage!:+

RE: 12 Week Challenge Check In 6/21 First Day of Summer...

Chin up Kathy! You may have hit a rough spot but you are still doing great IMO!:)

Gloria, I did the advanced work out plus abs. It's a goodie IMO. The instructors voice/personality is extremely annoying but I can tune those things out..lucky me!;) The work out is short but pretty tough. Lots of compound exercises. Light weights are a must! The ab work is killer! }(

12-Week Check-in

Confession is good for the soul. It is confession time. I am sliding down a slippery slope again. I do not know what is wrong with me. I am feeling lazy and unmotivated. My jeans are way too tight. My butt is getting bigger by the hour. And I do not seem to care enough to make a lasting difference. The fact is that this weight would have been gone long ago if I had the desire. The 4th of July will mark the 3-year anniversary of my fitness journey, and I am basically back to where I was on New Year’s Day and only halfway to my goal. Ugh! The first 60 pounds melted away. When I got down to 200 pounds, the real struggle began. Did the bottom drop out of my metabolism on my 35th birthday, or is this a mental block? For the past year or so, I have been bouncing between 200 pounds and 180 pounds and back again from a size 18 to a size 14 and back again. What is my problem?! Yes, my weight is back up to 200 pounds again, so 6 months of hard work just went down the toilet. :-( I cannot begin to imagine how I managed to gain 15 pounds in a week. I have been careful not to eat anything that causes an allergic reaction. It is time for my cycle, but that is only good for 5-7 pounds.

How did I respond to this? Well, I went to Cracker Barrel with a friend last night and ordered my usual fare. It did not taste good at all. It did not taste good when I ate there on another friend’s birthday. I just picked at my dinner and had a Blue Bell frozen mug sundae for desert because I was hungry. That was the last thing I needed. Weekends are tough for me, but eating out is my biggest challenge. The old Heather rises up and orders without thinking. The new Heather does not enjoy it and ends up just nibbling and grazing on food that does not satisfy. When will I learn that eating out does not require me to order fattening junk?

I am planning to go out to eat with another friend tonight, so I will get a do-over. I hope I make better choices. I refuse to gain another pound. What blows me away is how easy it is to pack on the pounds now that I am older. In my 20s, I had to binge to gain 5 pounds in a week. Now I just have to relax my workouts and eat too much processed food to gain more than twice that much. My portions do not have to be huge to cause serious damage.

My friend Cynthia lost 16 pounds in one week just walking in the pool. She is in her late 40s, so I cannot use age as an excuse. I have never had impressive results like that. My weight seems to creep off slowly and pile on instantly. It is like trying to hold a beach ball under the water. I look away for a second, and it pops up again. One of the girls in my Ya Yas check-in last year wrote that her weight never truly leaves. It just hides behind the sofa and jumps back on her butt when she is not looking. I can relate. I am so disgusted with myself right now. I am tempted to throw in the towel, but that is not an option.

There was a recent thread in Open Discussion about the important of nutrition vs. exercise. Most of the posters believe that weight control is 80 percent nutrition and 20 percent exercise. Even when I eat clean, I cannot control my weight with diet alone. I guess I could if I ate 1,000 calories a day, but I like to eat around 1,800 calories a day. In fact, I like it so much that I did not adjust my calories for the less intense workouts I have been doing lately.

I need intense exercise to see results. I need to get back on track with a Cathe rotation. This other stuff is fun but does not give me the results I desire. I can still do other workouts just for fun, but I need a solid rotation. My boss will be out of town most of July, so that will be a good time for me to make a fresh start. I feel miserable right now. Forget the way I look. I hate feeling this way. And I did not sleep well again last night.

As much as my flesh wants to roll over and cry and give up, I am far too resilient for that. I will come up with a new game plan and give it another whirl. As much as I hate seeing this in writing, being transparent keeps me out of denial. I am doing so much better spiritually and emotionally, but I am backsliding with my exercise and clean eating. When I get one area of my life under control, something else goes to hell. It is so frustrating and discouraging. x(

I think I am going to win the 12-week challenge for the greatest change in the wrong direction!

Blessings,
Heather B.

“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31 NIV).

RE: 12-Week Check-in

Real Fast this morning as I'm late to a summer program with the kids. Next week will be even worse with Vacation Bible School. I promise to go back and reread all this later. From what I can see HeatherB needs some prayers and hugs. You got them girl.

I did muscle endurance today and my eating was fantastic for the last two days although the scale would never tell. Talk to you later. Have fun Wendy!!!

RE: 12-Week Check-in

Good morning all. Last night the temperature outside was so nice I went for an hour bike ride. Threw in some hills to increase the heart rate. My high was 171(probably not a good thing?) The june bugs came out at dusk and were pelting me like rocks. yuck. I will check back later after my personal trainer app.

Heather, I am so sorry that you are feeling this way. I recently started reading the BFFM book and one of the things in it that is helping me with my thinking is that if what you are doing isn't working, you're not failing. You are learning that what you are currently doing doesn't work for you. You only fail, by quiting. So change it up. Try something different. These are some things that I have come up with and am trying. For example, try adding a vegetable to each meal. (I haven't added 1 to breakfast yet, but I have done that in the past) If you currently eat 1, try eating 2. Eat the vegetables before everything else that way you will fill up faster on the lower calorie foods first. Eating out, make up you mind ahead of time as to what you are going to eat, salad, fish etc. Write it down if necessary and stick with it. If you currently eat alot of carbs, add more protein. If you are eating alot of protein, make sure it is lean protein and add in some of the good carbs, potatoes, whole grain etc. As for gaining 15 lbs in a week, that cannot be 15 lbs of fat, unless you are consuming 7500 calories per day. Hopefuly it is water and some will disappear when the tide goes out. As you are aware, due to your allergic responses to certain foods, there are multiple health conditions that can cause rapid gains. You can do a search on the web for "hidden causes of weight gain" and there are alot of articles out there. If you suspect any medical condition, please consult your doctor. It doesn't sound like you are ready to give up. You've come to far for that. So take a good look at what you are doing and see what you might be able to change. If you are not currently journaling your food, start today. It can be an eye opener. If you have been journaling, journal before you eat it. That way, when you go to write ti down, you see what you have already eaten and may realize that "Hey, I'm not making a good choice here" and pick something that is beter for you. Try not to compare yourself to your others. Each of our bodies respond differently. What works for one doesn't work for others. If it was simply "Do this, you'll lose weight" then millions of health companies would be out of business. So keep your head up, make a few changes, see what happens. If those changes don't work, change again. When you find something that does work, market it and I get 50% commission, just kidding. Really now, when you find something that works, stick it out until it stops working (our bodies like to adjust and throw us off track) and then change again.

Hope something in there helps. I know I kind of got long winded there.

Hello to everyone. I'll be back later.

Jean

RE: 12-Week Check-in

I agree with Jean. Heather you have to give yourself a break. I can totally relate. Let me tell you this. Last week I ate relatively good. Just a few espisodes over the weekend. Mind you I worked out with Cathe and ran 30 miles last week and gained 3lbs. How does this happen. Beats me. I use to lose at least 5 lbs a month when I started to loss weight and over the past two years it's been a power struggle. What I have learned it if it isn't working I need to fix it. I am looking at what I have done and I'll let you know what I come up with to see if if may shed some light on you. Hang in there. Were all in it together.

I just reread yesterday's post and I told Wendy - Von Boyage instead of Bon Voyage. Maybe I had too many daiquiris, or I needed one.LOL

Hi ladies,

Finally made it back here, if only for a few minutes.
I didn't get a chance to check in yesterday, although i did workout. I went to the gym and took a lowerbody toning class and turbo kick. My favorite instructor, (wink, wink i meant my second favorite instructor :p ) taught both classes last night and they were excellent.

So today i went for a drug test for a new job I am starting on Monday. I am so excited, yet nervous at the same time. How will i fit it all in?????

Kathy-I am ususally on these boards wearing pj's:D . don't worry you are doing great! could it be muscle gain since you have been loosing bf?

Heather- don't get down on yourself. we've all been there and/or are there now. Sometimes i feel like i sabotage my own efforts. I will do really good for awhile start seeing some real results, get excited and then start eating crap:( All we can do is pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and remember tomorrow is a new day to make improvements. maybe 1800 calories is much or could be too low for you to loose weight.

Jean- long winded is A-OK with us:D

Karen- i've grown to love ME. I am supposed to do it today. Although time may escape my workout todayx(

ok ladies i am off to run some errands. ttyl

Sunnydelite, good luck at the new job. Is it a major change from previous jobs? Being nervous is normal, unless of course you are nervous about the drug test part.(evil snicker) You haven't been eating any poppyseed muffins lately, have you?

Jean

Jean- lol. no, poppyseeds, i promise}(
I am just nervous because i haven't really worked in a long while. It's been about a year now. I've been home with the kiddies. Now i am working full-time with 2 little ones (3 if you include dh,LOL) to take care of.

did i miss wendy:(

RE: 12 Week Challenge Check In 6/21 First Day of Summer...

Oh my, I just realized I forgot to check in today!!!! Whoops.

I did S&H biceps and abs. Hubby and I might go for walk, we'll see.

Heather, I was going to recommend getting BFFM (Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle). I think it could help as being a fantastic reference, not to mention the first Chapter which is all about, well darn, here's the title of the chapter:

Chapter 1: Goal setting: How to set powerful, compelling goals that will propel you forward and charge you up with unstoppable motivation

How's that for a beginning chapter! :) Sounds gimmicky, but it really isn't. In fact, I think I'll pull out my copy of BFFM and re-read chapter 1 for myself! :p

RE: 12 Week Challenge Check In 6/21 First Day of Summer...

good afternoon all challengers!
gosh, I could have sworn I had already posted!!! must be old age!! LOL

today's workout: did TJfatblaster....3x!!! YIKES!! LOL...actually, I did the 8turbos 3x and did just one warmup and one cooldown and the tai-chi at the end. It ended being 60mins long!!! WHHEW!!!

Heather: gosh, my heart aches reading your post. I really feel for you my friend. The girls here have given you some great ideas, advice, and motivation. I can only say that we are here for ya...hang in there...it's not over!!!!

Wendy: hope you are having a GREAT time!!

Kathy: sorry about the way you are feeling w/ your clothes. Sometimes, we have to go through some rough times before the good times roll in. Maybe it's the same w/ your weightloss???? give it some time...I'm sure you are anxious to lose this weight, but it will come off eventually...CONSISTENCY CONSISTENCY CONSISTENCY!!!

hello to everyone else...gonna get ready for dinner. Eating chicken breast, salad and corn tortillas for some chicken tacos!! yeah!!

Well, I'm back from the pt session. Today was shoulder s, triceps and some more core work. He had me do uneven pushups, shoulder press in a Y shape instead of straight up, Tricep Kickbacks using the bands, side stretch with the kettle ball and these weightball roll outs which I'm sure I will feel tomorrow. When we were done, I asked him if what we were doing is what they normally do if I were to hire a personal trainer. He said they fit their approach to the individual. Some people just want the accountablity of having an appointment with someone to make sure they go work out, while others want the drill sargent type to really push them to the next level. We then started discussing the memberships that they have available and the pt fees. He asked me what I was trying to accomplish. I told him I wanted to look like the girls in the pictures on the wall (several of their memebers have actually done fitness/muscle competitions). Unfortuantely I didn't get the response I wanted to hear. I wanted to hear, "That's entirely possible, with a lot of hard work and commitment you could do that".(since in my dreams I am already close to that goal,LOL). Instead he answered by telling me what packet of personal training sessions I should buy. He did tell me that with women, their sessions are usually more free weight/dumbbell exercises instead of using the machines. This made me think that what I'm doing with Cathe is already a good plan and maybe I just need some more discipline to keep pushing myself. Anyone know where I can find some extra discipline?

Jean
