100 push-ups ~ Thursday

OKay then...taking a few days off was a bad idea at least as far as this program goes! Or, maybe it was the push-up handles??? Whatever it was.....ouch!
I did day 3 of week 2 which came to a total of 46 push-ups. And I must confess, maybe not such good form. I really noticed a HUGE difference using the handles.
My wrists did not bother me and wow! there is no cheating! I used pec muscles I didn't know existed!
I am absolutely terrified looking at next week's totals!
I will check in with my test later this week!

Have a great day everyone!

Becky

Didn't get a chance to check in yesterday. Great numbers from everyone yesterday! Becky, I understand your reluctance to post in OD. I read your post to my DH, and added "Yay, she'll still be posting in the pushups check in!"

I had a feeling the pushup handles would make the pushups harder...it's the one reason I've avoided getting them, although I bet my wrists would be happier. Maybe I'll get them after I do the hundred and start the program again...yikes!

I did week 4 day 3 yesterday: 29/33/29/29/40. I took 3 minute rests in between sets, but still had to stop for brief rests during the last set of 40. Even looking at those numbers seems a bit surreal to me....I can't believe that I can actually do that many pushups. As I said before, it was not all that long ago that I could only do 10 on my knees.

Tomorrow I'm supposed to do the test again...I am curious to see how many I can do in a row now!

Variations day w/ high numbers

Maybe not high numbers in individual sets, but total high numbers at the end of the day - shooting for 200. Using Perfect Pushups handles, & doing variations - wide grip, close grip, staggered grip, etc. Sets with shorter rests, too. Did not do any earlier in the week, but that's OK.

WOW!! Amazing numbers jodijodi. It seems like I may never get there. I repeated week 2 day 2 today & still felt like I wasn't as strong. i din't even match the numbers on the max reps that I did last week. I did follow up with C&W along with LIC total body weights only from both & managed to do the majority of the push ups on those on my toes so I guess that is progress.

Becky~

How are thepush up handles different than using weights? Sometimes I use my 5 lbs & do notice a difference. May look into the handles....

Have a good day ladies

Wow! You ladies are amazing! I can't wait to post your kind of numbers!:D

Jodi&Tami~ thanks for the encouragement! I'm hoping things calm down after the election, but I found myself feeling ambushed in too many threads which I thought might be fun (not attacked personally, but sucked into discord between others) I realize, as a nation, stress is a constant presence, but it was making me sad to see so much animosity entering a fitness/health/wellness forum :(

Tami~ I feel more stable on the push-up handles than I do dumbbells, also, they give you more height so maybe someday (in a year or two! ;)) I can play around with the depth of my push-ups. Plus it seemed easier to move my hands and feel secure again whereas any movement on the dumbbells made me feel like *is the dumbbell stable or is it going to roll?* I just got the Gold's Gym ones and they were only $9 @ WalMart

Cakebaker~ you are an amazing *studette!* You rock!!!!!! :)

Have a good workout everyone!

Becky

Tami, that's great that you can still do the pushups from the Cathe workouts even after doing your pushups for the day! I have been skipping them in the workout if I've already done them earlier.

One reason is that I'm really trying to work on my posture, and I'm afraid if I work my chest too much more than my back it will make me lean forward more. Having said that, I feel like my posture has actually improved a bit since starting the pushup challenge.

Thanks for the info on the handles Becky! I may give them a try soon.

The Perfect Pushups DO make them harder, but in the end you'll be able to do more "regular" p/u's without the handles. It's been awhile since I've not used the, but when I started I could do 50 without but only 40 with. Now I'm up to 50-55 with, and I'm going to test myself on the regular ones next week, just out of curiousity. I'll bet I'll be able to do 70.

All of you push-up fanatics, have you noticed more definition in your upper body? Especially in your shoulders?

Definitely! My shoulders were looking pretty good before, but even better now!

Tami, I know what you mean about the tanks...I was wearing one under a long sleeved shirt this AM when it was chilly, and as soon as it warmed up I took off the shirt so I could walk around in my tank.
