    Turning 30

Those birthdays with a zero in them can be quite daunting. Almost everyone has that experience at some age. It's a good time for self-reflection. Ask yourself where you are in terms of where you thought you would be at this age, and think about whether those goals still make sense for you...

People who make smacking sound when eating

I was researching the topic of why some people make a smacking sound when they eat, and almost everything I read assumed that it was voluntary and caused by "rudeness". That may be true in some cases, but during Thanksgiving dinner it occurred to me that the members of my family who smack are...

    Hard to Lose Weight-PreMeno-Late 40s

Wow, Sandra, I'm very impressed! Every one of your "excuses" sounds like a darn good one to me. I've been "fat" and I've been "thin" and I've been everything in between and I would never, ever judge another person in regard to his or her size. My poor husband has genetics against him and his...

    Hard to Lose Weight-PreMeno-Late 40s

I am 54 years old and literally eat like an elephant. No, seriously. I remember watching them feed the elephants at the San Diego zoo. They had wheelbarrows full of fruits and veggies. The only difference is that elephants are vegetarians, and I generally include about 4 ounces of lean...

    Loving the cowl neck!

Cascading cardigan sweaters. I can't seem to get enough of them. They've been around for a few years, but keep getting more popular. Such an easy way to look work appropriate while still feeling comfy and cozy.

So do you pass out the candy or let them choose?

Nicole, I forgot about trading candy with my brothers until I read your post. That WAS the best part of Halloween. Thank you for that happy memory!

So what was your favorite treat of the day?

My treat was seeing all the little ones in their costumes. One kid dressed up as the Staten Island Ferry and his costume was so big his little sister had to collect the candy for him because he couldn't get close enough to the door to get it himself! Too cute.

So do you pass out the candy or let them choose?

The ones who are too young to tell me what they want are getting boxes of organic raisins (followed by heartfelt "thank yous" from the parents standing behind them). The rest are getting what they choose from among packs of apple slices, boxes of raisins, granola bars, M&Ms and Hershey bars...

Anyone else giving out healthier treats this year?

OMG! The little bags of Mott's apple slices are going like hot cakes! :eek:You would not believe how many kids just chose apples over M&Ms!! I'm actually running out of apple packs! I think it's because we have about 75 apartments in the building and the kids get so much of the same stuff...

No more excuses! I want success.....

Thanks, Catherine. When you get old, "wise" is the best you can hope for. :p (And you'll learn that soon enough, now that you have A GRAY HAIR! Horrors!).

Anyone else giving out healthier treats this year?

I hear you, but what about the tiny tots? Do they even know what candy is? (I've never been a parent).

No more excuses! I want success.....

I agree with everything Dela posted. Remember: What works is fueling your body with wholesome, nutritious, delicious foods that you delight in eating and that make you feel good. Remember too, that it's natural to be hungrier on some days than on others, and you need to follow your body's...

Anyone else giving out healthier treats this year?

My DH went out and bought bags of chocolate, but I just bought bags of mini boxes of organic raisins, little bags of sliced apples and chocolate granola bars. Our apartment building is filled with really young trick-or-treaters this year; it seems like about 75% of them are 5 or younger. I'm a...

    Low carb desserts?

Actually, I do think of apples as being relatively low carb, which is why I suggested them. I don't think a food that is low in calories and mostly water can accurately be described as carbs "galore". To me, pasta, rice, potatoes, cake and cookies constitute carbs "galore", and they cause me...

    Low carb desserts?

Yup, and packed with compounds that can help protect your heart, improve cholesterol, prevent inflammation, regulate blood pressure, regulate production of fat in the liver, inhibit the growth of tumors, prevent certain types of cancers, support the lungs, keep the digestive tract moving...

    What's your pet cause?

City Harvest here in NYC. The restaurants here discard so much food every day. City Harvest buys trucks to pick up the excess and deliver it to those who need it most in the city. Such a simple and brilliant idea. It's my favorite charity.

Do you remember when? OMG!.....Sit n Stands!

I must have been doing them wrong because sit 'n stands was one of the few leg exercises I could do all the way through and still want more. Leg PRESSES, on the other hand, kill me every time. Especially the ones with the extra risers like in Muscle Endurance. I think Cathe does 3 sets in...

Getting sick from eating store bought fruit and vegies

I stopped eating berries completely for awhile because I used to get so sick. Maybe it's all in my mind, but I use a fruit and veggie wash now for all berries and grapes and cherries and I feel fine. I wash and rinse them very thoroughly. This is the stuff I use...
