Help! Forgetful (Unappreciative?) 9 yo daughter

LOL! That's all I had to say, but there's that 10 character minimum thing. :D

Help! Forgetful (Unappreciative?) 9 yo daughter

Disclaimer: Not a parent here, and I work with older kids (MS age). Hi Elaine! I know she's only 9, but I do agree she can learn to be more responsible for her things. You wouldn't believe the kinds of nice things that turn up in our school's lost & found that never get claimed. I've had...

I just LOVE finding good books

Another out-of-control bibliophile here! I have a Kindle but I also buy books for the classroom. I try to read as much YA lit as I can for my job and totally agree about Hunger Games...fantastic. For anyone with a reluctant reader at home (middle school & up), this book has been an...

    Blizzard 2011

IA, the freshly-fallen snow is beautiful. Puppy looked like he(?) was workin' hard there. Cute! Thanks for sharing.

    I can't believe I clicked the button!

WTG, Nan!!! Having done Chicago as a first-time marathoner and also as a spectator, I think you've made an excellent choice for a first marathon. Although the weather can be a crapshoot, it's very well-organized, the course is FLAT and fun, and the million+ spectators are simply incredible...

Styles and Fads from Decades gone by

Guilty! A paper dress??? Wow, I don't remember that one. But our parents bought all of our clothes at Kmart on blue light special, so I probably blocked a lot out! :p

Styles and Fads from Decades gone by

Ah, yes, the Jordache jeans. I was so proud of my first pair. I think it was in 5th grade for my birthday. Nikes were big and then for a time it was Reebok...the bright hi-tops. I had bubble gum pink. Leggings, stirrups, big belts, geometric patterns, paint splash patterns, neon, disastrous...

    80's musical flashback!

I love First Wave, so I hear my old favorites pretty regularly...U2, The Smiths, Siouxsie & the Banshees, The Clash, Michael Jackson, Duran Duran, INXS, The Cure, Squeeze, The Alarm...I could go on. :)

    Paul Katami's Kettlebell dvd's

I use a 15, which is the smallest I own. I feel comfortable with that weight and am plenty challenged. But 20 might be a lot to start with...

    met value in workout manager

My understanding is it's another way to measure the intensity of your workout. One MET would represent the unit of energy/oxygen the body uses while resting or sitting. Anything from 3 to 6 METS would be moderate activity, and anything above 6 would be vigorous.

    Books about Girls' Body Image

Valerie, I can't think of a specific title, but I do know that Barnes & Noble and Borders each have a section of non-fiction (in the teen section), and I remember seeing a good number of books devoted to girls' issues and self-esteem. Some might be appropriate for your daughter. Here is a...

Ha! I know this is a sensitive topic, but this comment busted me up! Love your posts, Clare.

    Ugh! Stupid headcold!!

Sorry to hear! I am prone to sinus infections, and I know sometimes they can really lay you out. Personally, I think I would consider the past two weeks "recovery weeks" and if I could bear doing M1W1 a third week in a row, I'd probably start over. Or, if you still feel pretty lousy, insert a...

    Keurig - What's your favorite?

Oh duh, I left off my favorite flavors: that would be Timothy’s Italian Blend and Green Mountain Pumpkin Spice. I normally like flavored coffees but the GM gingerbread was not a favorite. I liked Gloria Jean’s Hazelnut. Bigelow’s Organic Green Tea, not as much, but I’m not a big drinker...

    Keurig - What's your favorite?

I really like Green Mountain and Timothy's. (Green Mountain makes an awesome dark chocolate hot cocoa, too.) My co-worker and I place joint orders through CoffeeCow.com. (They have a huge selection and free UPS shipping on orders of $65 or more).

Quasimodo in need of a new office chair

Ooh, one of those high-end jobbies...sweet! I had to go with a more entry-level option, but I'll say, having used it only two days, I love it! Or I should say, my back loves it.

    Paul Katami's Kettlebell dvd's

love PK! Nora, I only have good things to say about my new boyfriend Paul Katami! :p I have both of these workouts and really, really like them. Each is about 40 minutes long and delivers strength, cardio, core, and balance work. Each exercise is done for 30 or 60 seconds (measured by an...

Quasimodo in need of a new office chair

My computer desk chair needs to be replaced. As the thread title suggests, I tend to have issues with my back and was wondering if anyone could recommend an ergonomic chair that’s reasonably-priced. I’ve looked at reviews for some different chairs on Amazon and Staples, including the kneeling...
