Will Health Care Reform Increase Life Expectancy?

I don't want to raise a controversy about whether or not we need health care reform. I don't think it really matters in this discussion, so if you can, please leave that out of any response. But I found the ideas of this article interesting and I'm not sure I agree with them -...

    Ideas for Graduation Present

My daughter's best friend is graduating (my dd is a junior) tonight and I would like to get her something, but I have no idea what to get her. I don't mind spending up to around $100. Any ideas?

Service idea for 9 year old girls ????

+1 And not only nursing homes, but homes with patients with Alzheimer's and other special care facilities for the elderly - including Veteran's Hospitals and homes - don't forget our service people. My neighbor's husband had dementia (he passed away a few months ago) and she was shocked at how...

When to take the keys away

Unfortunately, think about what would happen if you don't say anything and something major happens. If you're that concerned to write this post, then I would seriously sit down and think about it at least.

    The Truth About Cardio

Nothing is absolute. Doing only short sessions of HIIT and heavy weight work is a recipe for disaster for me. I lean down by doing circuit workouts and both HIIT and steady state cardio. And I think steady state cardio is crucial for good heart health. Besides, I have no desire to be in a...

So, what was the LAST concert you saw?

America - about a month ago. Oh, wait, I went to the Santa Cruz Blues Fest a few weeks ago and saw BB King. But I'm not sure that classifies as a concert as I also saw some other great artists.

(Long) Dog training update: "The Dog Listener"

Well, if he continues to pull, then go back to the NILF idea. This is a giant pain, but believe me, it works and is not cruel. I'm assuming he loves his walks. If you want him to walk beside you nicely, the minute he starts to fight the harness, simply stop and wait (don't say a word, do not...

(Long) Dog training update: "The Dog Listener"

I think you might want to add in a "NLIF" philosophy - that means - Nothing In Life is Free. You require "payment" in the form of sitting, laying down, etc - in order for your Boston to get food, go for a walk, even getting attention - basically everything. If he wants something, he has to...

Who all here is getting "Insanity"?

I'll probably end up trading for a few of the workouts on VF, but I'm not sure I need the whole thing. We'll see. I tend to change my mind a lot. :P I just have the feeling that this will be one of those that I do all of the workouts and then they sit on my shelf because the dread factor is...

How important do you think looks are to

Hey - I'll bet Richard Simmons has directly helped more people lose weight and take up exercise than about anyone else out there. Yeah he's a bit cuckoo and fruity (sounds like a breakfast cereal!), but I like and respect the guy for being true to himself and willingly being the butt of jokes...

I am so ANGRY and need to vent!!!

I absolutely think the hardest thing in the world to deal with is losing a child. To lose a child to such a vicious disease when so much time and research is being put into working towards cures is unfathomable. My heart goes out to his family and friends.

    Things people say - UGGGH!

What a jerk!! My heavens! Don't let an insensitive, know-it-all jacka... er ah, donkey, drive you from what you know is right. Sounds like your doctors (who, I'm sure, know so much more than this gym jerk) are monitoring you closely and that you are doing everything perfect for a healthy...

    Going to get her wings

Ironic that we call our highly intelligent peers "gifted", when I cannot imagine a more gifted existence than being able to see the joy in everyone and everything.

    Outer Banks, NC vacation

We go to Emerald Isle, which is on the southern most Outer Bank, often. My dad lives there. There are a lot of nice houses and condos to rent in the area. I'd recommend picking an island - most are very nice with lots of family things to do - then calling a rental agent in the area. Just a...

    Going to get her wings

Thank you so much for sharing! I enjoyed reading about her and would love to have the opportunity to meet her. She sounds like someone who just lights up the room by being there. What a special gift! My prayers and thoughts to her, her family and you. That has to be tough.

    Dog question

+1 - this was my first thought. Sounds just like my Eskie when she had a seizure. There are many many reasons for seizures and only your vet can tell you which one caused hers. Unfortunately, yes, get out your check book. The tests are pricey.
