Another book thread - Hmmm I wonder what Clare's reading?

Love this thread so I keep coming back to check for updates. :) I am not sure whether anyone has mentioned Ken Bruen yet. I just finished The Guards, the first in his Jack Taylor series. It may not be everyone's cup of tea but I really enjoyed it and boy did I rip through it. Bruen's...

New 10 mile PR, Thanks to Cathe and Coach Sean!

Jenn, I loved reading about your success! Congratulations to you and, judging from your rotations, you have totally earned it. I have always been impressed with your PR stats but I am so glad to read that Cathe and Cardio Coach helped contribute to your success as a runner. Since I...

Another book thread - Hmmm I wonder what Clare's reading?

Clare, I could not agree more with this entire assessment. The most torturous part of the Fifty Shades experience to me was the whole "Inner Goddess" thing. Ugh. I have read far better erotic romance than this and I can't understand how this... THIS... made it to the national best seller list...

Another book thread - Hmmm I wonder what Clare's reading?

Oops! Correction to my post: It's Julia Spencer-Fleming (not Laura).

Another book thread - Hmmm I wonder what Clare's reading?

Janis - great thread and thanks for starting it! I am always looking for my next good book and the last book thread on these boards led me to read The Pawn by Steven James, which I really enjoyed. Will be picking up The Rook from my library soon. I second Clare’s recommendation for Julia...

Im training for a half marathon. Ideas Pls

I’ll tell you about my experience with the foam roller. Best. Purchase. Ever. This is something you can use to self-massage, since most of us can’t necessarily go get a massage after every run. :) Use before or after your runs, or both. I also use it on my IT band area if my hip is feeling sore...

Im training for a half marathon. Ideas Pls

You have gotten great advice here so I don't have much to add. Just wanted to say congrats on your decision and have fun!! I finished my first half in March (RnR DC) and it was awesome. To me, the training was harder than the race itself but so rewarding. I joined a 1/2 training program...

    starting running

Congrats on starting running! I agree with all so far, do go to a running store and try on several pairs of recommended shoes, have them watch you run in them and find something that fits your gait. I am a pronator (my ankles tend to bow inward as my foot strikes the ground) and I wear a...

    Thoughts on invisible fencing?

I feel exactly the same! We still send pictures and updates to our breeder and I believe they are happy to know that the dogs are being well cared for.

    Thoughts on invisible fencing?

Also wanted to add that our breeder was not keen on selling us a puppy when we told her about the invisible fence. We provided her with documentation on how it works and how they are trained and she even called the Invisible Fence company to discuss. In the end she was fine with it.

    Thoughts on invisible fencing?

We love ours and our dogs have not crossed the line in the 4 years since we put it in. If you train them properly you can get away without them ever feeling the static shock (fyi, it is not "electrocution"). There is a beep that warns them when they get within a certain distance of the line and...

    Strength Training for Running

Thanks for your suggestions. I do feel better hearing that I really should be keeping it low impact between runs. At first I was disappointed because I am an IMax and Intensity junkie and it just felt like I was taking it too easy. Well, since I've increased my running distance I don't feel...

    Strength Training for Running

Hi everyone, I recently started running back in June and am really enjoying it. I’m still pretty slow, about a 10:45 mile most of the time (10:30 in my first 5K!). The purpose of my post is that I’m looking for suggestions as to what kind of leg/core strength training would be most...

    Earthquake across the east coast

So true. I am in MD near the APG I thought that it was an explosion, or a helicopter, or something from the proving ground... until the house just would not stop shaking. Crazy!

    Earthquake across the east coast

I'm in Baltimore and I sure felt it. It was rather frightening, actually! Hope everyone out there is ok.

    Why do YOU workout?

I am enjoying reading everyone's reasons for working out. My reasons are... - It makes me feel stronger in everything I do, I LOVE that feeling. - Gives me more energy throughout the day. - Keeps me lean and fit and I don't feel shallow for enjoying that. I work hard and I feel...

    Book Series??

I second the suggestion of Gabaldon's Outlander series, I love it. I also really enjoyed Sara Donati's (aka Rosina Lippi?) Wilderness series.

    CTX or 4DS?

I love them both. However, if you must choose one set, I would recommend 4DS for no other reason than the Bootcamp workout. It's great by itself or as an add-on to another cardio session.
