Weighted Vests

Can anyone recommend a durable, weighted vest. I'd like to use it for squats. I'm looking for something at least 20 lbs if not more. I'm 5'1" with a short torso and wider hips so I'm worried about getting one that wont fit! Thanks!

MIR weighted vest

Hi Stacy,

The weighted vest recommendations are on previous thread posted , i believe, by justine weeks ago.

I can recall MIR weighted vest being the most suitable for women. I believe it's the only brand which make specific vest for women.

Here is the link http://cathe.com/forum/f97/weighted-vest-recommendations-293477/

I am interested in purchasing it. I live in UK and the shipping could cost a fortune :(:(. Shame really!!!

All the best,

Hi Nathalie and Stacy!
Yes, I got the MIR - love it! Plus, I got a weighted belt from a scuba diving shop - and I like that even more. I can clip weights on and off, and I don't get as hot and sticky as I do with the vest. Also, carrying the weight through my hips takes any strain off my shoulders.
And, of course, if I'm feeling very brave I can wear both the belt and the vest.....

Thanks for the info!! Justine, do you use the diving belt for squats in addition to a barbell?? How much weight is the heaviest dive belt? I'm still eyeing a squat rack too but they take up so much room and I'd have to buy more weight plates too.

Justine,

Would you mind posting ,in private, the shipping cost for both belt and vest? a link would useful.

Thanks ;-)

Thanks,

I've got 15kg (about 33lb) of weights for the belt - they are 3kg each. I wear the whole lot and then lift about 10kg less on the barbell. In other words for squats if I normally do 30kg on the barbell (I put it behind my head), I'd wear the belt and then lift 20kg.
If I'm feeling really strong I wear a 20kg weighted vest + 15kg belt and then pick up 2x10kg dumbells - but that's squatting 55kg or about 120lb, and I don't do many of those
The belt works out considerably cheaper than a vest. The belt was about $10 and then I bought leaded weights which thread on - just a few $ each.

OMG Justine :eek::eek::rolleyes:,

This is a great idea to safely add on weight.
Please send me the link :)

I got the belt from a local shop - however if you google scuba diving belts, there seem to be plenty available. Are you in London? I seem to remember there being a big diving shop right in the center of town - near the strand. It'd save on p&p, but the tube journey home might be tiring!!!!

Where did you get your MIR vest from.

Thanks for the scuba diving belts, i will google it.:)

My sister in Canada got me the vest, and shipped it over when she sent a load of other stuff - no help to you, I'm afraid! I wonder how much it would be to have just the vest shipped, and then add weights bought over here?

I'd thought there was a MIR supplier in UK i didn't know about.
No worries, I have travelled in USA more than a couple of time!

If I am very desperate I will get it shipped from third party freight companies.

Another option would be to get my sister who live in california to ship it.
