Let's talk about some real news......

This story totally freaked me out. It's about government, but not a partisan issue (fortunately LOL).

So, 8 years after 9/11 & here we are...........http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/07/07/federal.buildings.security/index.html

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Plainclothes investigators sent to test security at federal buildings in four U.S. cities were successful in smuggling bomb components through guard posts at all 10 of the sites they visited, according to a government report.

A GAO report cites lax security in federal buildings after investigators got bomb components past guards.

The investigators then assembled the bombs in restrooms and freely entered numerous government offices while carrying the devices in briefcases, the report said.
The buildings contained offices of several federal lawmakers as well as agencies within the departments of State, Justice and Homeland Security, which is responsible for safeguarding federal office buildings.
CNN obtained the report late Tuesday, ahead of its expected release Wednesday at a hearing of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs.

So, 10 tests, 10 failures. Weird how I'm not allowed to send hard copies of anything to the fed govmt b/c they're afraid of anthrax. Apparently bombs aren't as scary as anthrax. It appears we learned nothing from what happened in 2001.

It's been like this all along! We are spending billions on so-called tighter security, but realistically, the logistics and cost of providing true anti-terrorism security is beyond what anyone could afford and manage.

We are only given the false sense of security by being forced to take our shoes off at airport security checks! Makes me feel so much better knowing everyone's shoes are safe!

What's worse is that they have to publicize how easy it is to sneak the bomb parts in.

Yeah, they put the poles in concrete in front of the doors of my building and said "we are safe" and I look at the rest of the glass windows that are so accessible by jumping a little curb and shook my head. The receptionist is safe, the rest of us ... well... that's another story.

I worked in a government building a couple of years ago. We had a holiday potluck where my coworker brought a smoked turkey in along with a huge carving knife through security. Although I knew he was not crazy and his reason for bringing the knife in was legit, what if he had gone psycho and stabbed us all? Even worse, what else does security let into federal buildings?

What's worse is that they have to publicize how easy it is to sneak the bomb parts in.

Holy smokes, I didn't even think of that! Why don't they just send gold engraved invitations to Bin Laden?

I honestly don't get the point of DHS. I work for municipal govmt right outside of NYC, & there used to be a lot of grant funding for first responders that's completely disappeared to fund the paper pushers at DHS. So if we have another terrorist attack, our first responders have lost all their federal resources. But at least the beaurocrats in DC will be safe.
