Muscle Twitching?

I've had this muscle twitch to the side of my left knee on and off ALL day!

Anyone else get this ? Know what it's caused by? And how to stop it? It's driving me crazy!

HI Chris:

It is so funny (strange, not haha) that you post this! I woke up this morning at 5am with a funny twitch in my right tricept muscle... It still hasn't really stopped, and a few hours ago, my left eye started...

about 6 years ago when I moved to Alaska and was having trouble sleeping, my eye twitched DAILY, ALL DAY! so I went to the optomitrist... He said it was probably due to both stress and lack of sleep! so that explains the eye, as I haven't gotten much sleep the past few days...

Here's what google says about other muscle twitches:

Definition
Muscle twitches are fine movements of a small area of muscle.

Considerations
Muscle twitching is caused by minor muscle contractions in the area, or the uncontrollable twitching of a muscle group that is served by a single motor nerve fiber or filament.

Muscle twitches are minor and often go unnoticed. Some are common and normal. Others are signs of a nervous system disorder.

Causes
Diet deficiency
Drug overdose (caffeine)
Drug side effect (such as from diuretics, corticosteroids, or estrogens)
Exercise
Twitches not caused by disease or disorders (benign twitches)
Often affecting the eyelids, calf, or thumb
Normal and quite common, often triggered by stress or anxiety
Come and go, and do not last for more than a few days
Nervous system conditions that can cause muscle twitching:

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS - Lou Gehrig's disease)
Damage to the nerve that leads to a muscle
Muscular dystrophy
Spinal muscular atrophy
Weak muscles (myopathy)
Symptoms that suggest a nervous system disorder include:

Loss of, or change in sensation
Loss of muscle size (wasting)
Weakness

Home Care
There is usually no treatment necessary for benign muscle twitching.

When to Contact a Medical Professional
Call your health care provider if you have long-term or persistent muscle twitches.

Hope your twitches go away soon too! I"m about to go take a nap! :)

I get an eye twitch too sometimes. It's actually kind of funny ~ I think of Chief Inspector Dreyfus (DH and the kids can be very Clouseau-like :p ).

I get those from time to time but they're gone within a couple of minutes. My late mother used to have to get Botox injections in one of her eyelids because of uncontrollable muscle spasms that started around age 72. I guess it's extremely common in the elderly because her doctor always had one day per month dedicated to doing nothing but injecting botox into twitching muscles.

It's so weird, it's only in one part of my knee. I did Step yesterday, but not any leg work in almost a week.

I wonder what kind of diet defficiency it is that causes them. Maybe it's that?

It's annoying. I can't imagine it in my eye though!

thanks for the info!!

It is usually electrolytes, magnesium or potassium, I think.

It can also be from exercise: like a certain set of muscle fibers got fatigued and now are spazzing out!
