Barbell advantage?

Does anyone know the advantages of using a barbell to work biceps. I notice that when I use the exact same weight with dumbells (taking weight of barbell into consideration) I can do more reps easily. With the barbell my wrists and arms are killing me- even with an EZ curl bar. Does it work the biceps differently? I was able to use the barbell last time I did GS BSB and was realllllly sore the next day - in a good way. Just wondering if the barbell is more advanced? Thanks anyone for you input...

Cathe mentions that using a bar "uses the biceps in a different way" and since she's all about doing exactly that in all her workouts it makes sense.

Personally it drives me crazy; I can match her with everything but then she loads her barbell for biceps and I have to go down 5-10 pounds. :(

I personally prefer DBs for curls. But I think variety is good. Keeps your muscles guessing. And of course Cathe knows best ;) So if she uses a BB, so do I

Check out this for some good, basic info:

Anything that causes me real pain (as opposed to the aching resulting from muscular challenge, which is good) I modify. I often have to use an E-Z curl bar on some moves to keep my wrists and right elbow from hurting. And, though I don't usually have trouble using the barbell for biceps I occasionally have to do all the moves with dumbbells, which also give me a greater range of motion and ensure I'm not letting the stronger arm compensate for the weaker. We are all made differently so anytime you feel actual pain you need to modify until you find what's comparably effective without doing damage. If you get hurt you just end up laid-up, not doing anything.

Thanks for the input - and the article- guess I'll keep plugging away at using the barbell on my strong days.
