If your TV is mounted on the wall...

Have you found a shelf to mount under it to hold the cable box and DVD player? We've tried everything and no luck. We're going to have to return the one we ordered from Lowe's because it doesn't mount well. I thought I'd try this just in case anyone out there has discovered a solution. Thanks.

Do you happen to have a closet behind the wall? I would put it in there if so. If not, maybe you could run the cables/wires through the wall to somewhere convenient.

Of course, thinking about it, guess use of remote would be difficult with the boxes in the closet. Do you have somewhere beneath you could put the boxes and just run the wires down behind the wall to that place so the remotes would work?

We just need a shelf to put the boxes on, but most of them are WAY too deep for just a little cable box and DVD player. I was wondering if anyone has found a shelf that is the right size?

Are you or DH handy with things?
You could buy some nice pieces of wood, shelf size, and stain them the way you like, then set them up as shelves beneath the TV using brackets (they would be 'open' shelves, not enclosed like with a TV stand, and that could look pretty nice! You could leave them natural wood color; stain them to a darker color; bleach them out to a lighter color; paint them to match the wall--or even put wallpaper on them, if that's what you have on the wall; or paint them to match the TV).

Nancy, they make the TV wall mounts with a shelf already attached underneath for VCR/DVD players. I got mine at Lowes I think. Home Depot has them too.

Also, if you can't find one in either of those places, check out this link: http://www.mountsandmore.com

Maybe a solution...

When we set up our fitness center we bought TVs with built-in DVD players. And my husband said that we're just not going to use VHS at all (goodbye to all of those "original" Firm workouts!). They're wall-mounted at eye-level.

It's nice to have the TV up at that height, rather than sitting down on a piece of furniture.

Ahhh... I see. I misunderstood! Darn! That does make it harder.

I hope you can figure something out. How much trouble would it be to change out the mount?

Well, the mount is great because it tilts and swivels, etc. and no way would my DH consider switching it. But additionally, those beautiful shelves that come with the mounts are usually very deep, like 18", which is great for a living room, but ours is in the bedroom and if we had that kind of shelf, I wouldn't be able to get into bed! :(

I suppose Kathryn's idea of creating our own may work best, although for some reason my DH, who is very handy, is nixing the idea.
