Need a Barbell and Dumbells

Blessed!

Cathlete
Hello.. I just decided to purchase STS, but my heaviest weigths are 10 pounders... I suppose that I now also need a barbell and dumbells... :(

does someone knows where I can get them cheap?

Nidya. I would suggest Wal-Mart. If you don't hav one near you try Wal-Mart.com.
I got my barbell which was a 100lb barbell set for like $52.00.
Also you can buy the items separately. Just the barbell and then get only the plates that you need. I think a 10 lb plate cost me about 8 bucks.

Hello Saundra!!!

I do have a walmart were I live.. do you think if I order the barbell and then I order dumbell handles I can use the barbel plates for making heavy dumbells?

sorry about so many questions but Im new at going heavy

what do you think?

I would definitely suggest checking your local Craigslist. You can get great deals off of there. Try to avoid ordering anything online, as shipping will be very expensive. You can sometimes find good deals at your local GoodWill, Salvation Army, or Play-it-Again sports. Sporting goods stores like Academy, Sports Authority, and Dicks tend to retail weight plates at about $1/pound for standard 1" plates and around $2/pound for Olympic 2" weights. A 300 pound Olympic weight set (comes with a 7", 45-lb Olympic bar + 255 pounds of weight plates) typically retails for about $150. If you're located in the Austin, TX area, I'm actually selling some extra weight sets that I have; send me an email if you're intersted. I have the exact weight set that Cathe uses in Pyramid Upper Body and other DVDs, as well as a standard weight set + 2 benches. I have a garage gym, and these items are now taking up space.

At any rate, hope this helps.

Take care,

FWIW, looking at the 2 options you gave in your link, they seem to be exactly what you need. Pick up those (make sure those weight plates fit the dumbell stems, though) and a possibly a cost-effective weight bench, and you'll have a nice setup with weight heavy enough to complete STS safely.

Good luck!

I got my barbell from this site: http://fitness1st.com/Troy-Bars.html
very good service and I love this set however it does not work with my squat rack because it is too short. So I recently had to order a 6ft bar.
this is my 3rd bar. I originally bought a threaded bar-BIG MISTAKE.
Don't buy threaded anything because it takes forever to make changes and Cathe's workouts require quick changes.
