Kickboxing pregnant

I have KPC and KM. I am wondering you gals who are doing them in your 2 and 3 trimester do you do these, just with less intesity? I really can't imagine it! Wondering your take on these type of workouts.

Hi Julie,

I was doing CTX Kickbox all along up until a couple of weeks ago coz my hip was bothering me and I decided that kickboxing was the culprit...that doesn't mean you shouldn't do it..I just think I was OVER-doing it. If you keep the itensity down you should be fine. As your belly grows, you will find it harder and harder to kick so it will FORCE you to keep the intensity down...

Have a great work out!

Yeah, good point. My doc cleared me for exercise in general as long I was careful not to exhaust myself but docs can be different...Thanks Sunny! I sometimes forget that!:)

Hey Julie!!!!! Congrats!!!!!!! I did Cardio Kicks 2 weeks before I delivered and KPC a little over a month before delivery. I like kickboxing and found the workouts easy to modify. I had no contraindications to exercise and was not at risk for getting kicked in the belly so felt safe & comfortable. :) My docs were in awe that I exercised and encouraged me to do so.

I did KPC the morning was son was born. I modified through my pregnancy, but on this particular day I gave it my all. I really wanted my son to be born as I was getting pretty tired of being pregnant!!! :D :D
As long as you were in good shape when you got PG, you should be okay doing the same fitness program, modifying so you do don't become anaerobic during cardio portions. Listen to your body...most of my workouts were 30-40 min in duration as well.
Congrats on your pregnancy!!

Hi Julie! I'm a certified Healthy MOMs perinatal fitness instructor, group fitness instructor and personal trainer. Kickboxing is definitely NOT recommended during pregnancy due to the rapid directional changes that are involved that make you susceptible to injury were you to fall (due to change in center of gravity) and the relaxin in your joints that make them soft and, therefore, less protected.

On a funny note, I am training an OB/GYN here from Northwestern Memorial Hospital who also loves kickboxing and had to tell her to "knock" it off. I'd recommend finding another activity to do for these few short months so that post-partum you can continue to kickbox your way well into the future!!

Yeah I was wondering about that, my OBGYN was a little hesitant on it. She said abrupt motions of stopping and going (for instance in soft ball, volley ball ect ) is bad for the placenta. So I was kinda thinking, gezz that is a lot of kickboxing. I'm really leaning towards the new Low Max video, do you think that is more condusive with modifications when needed? Btw thanks for the input! :)

Oh btw can I do this up to the end of my first trimester or give it up now? As you can see I'm quite early in my pregnancy.
