50 and over month of January 2012 check in

Good morning, Y'All!

Joan, have a fantastic time in New Orleans! I have never been there, and it's one of the cities I'd like to visit. Can't believe I grew up in Atlanta and never went.

Jann, glad you got some mother-son time. I'm sure it was great.

Hi, Beth, Cathy and Jean. Hope you are all well.

I did Basic Step today, and it went well, so I might try kicking it up another notch this week. Have not tried the new Tracie Longs yet, but I watched the Figure 30 one--it looks great, but I think I might wait about a month or two to try it!

We took a cruise last February. It just so happened it was on the Costa Concordia that sank just a couple of days ago. So glad we weren't sitting down to dinner on THAT ship last Friday!!!!!!!

Have a great day, everyone!

Hi, Y'all!

I just finished doing Body Sculpting Basics again. I have a plan in the back of my mind for a rotation to get me back to where I was, but it involves listening to my body more I ever have before.

Have a great day, everyone!

I thought I had a plan but I keep finding excuses. Taking my mother (250lb) in the wheelchair tweaked my back. Sometimes you have to lift the chair and her a little to get around tight corners. No wo yesterday and today I am just too tired. I know it will only get worse with tax season but I refuse to give up.

I did get haircut and color today. That should last through most of my busy season.

IRS didn't send the right forms so I can't finish client's 1099's. I did the 1099 but need a 1096 to send to IRS with copy 1099. They want it a specific color (red) so it isn't printed you order it from them. I ordered 30 and got 1. Now it will take 1-2 weeks to get. I'm glad I am going away.

Every morning I wake up thinking "I am getting back on track today" and by 2:00 - 3:00ish, I have not!! I am getting in walks here and there (I still take Reggie when it's not real cold) and yesterday I did some free weights. My DH gave up on his ttapp, so I have also... even after seeing results -
I am not getting any younger and it's just going to get harder. What happened? I also have a 1000 excuses, none of them good.

Joan have a great time! A calm before the storm is nice. I am sorry about your back.

Magnolia, You amaze me, you just keep going and going. I need to borrow some of your juice. :) I remember you taking a cruise. That accident scared me! Those poor people. :(

Beth -- How are you? Busy?

Good Morning!

I have had a non stop start to the New Year- none of which involves taking off the TEN pounds I added over the holidays!!

We had a week long trial last week which has consumed the office and household ( I am married to the lawyer that never lets it rest till its done) and I also am the on demand paralegal, etc. Also, I am taking a statistics class for that pie in the sky MBA degree.
I have had very little consistant exercise and I am very discouraged. Im starting to wonder what I would look like if I stopped all together...

Anyway, the best thing for me I think are the things that dont make me think too much- like showing up for a class or spinning-yesterday, I was in te middle of cardio supersets and I just got sidetracked..

Somethings got to give with the diet too. I just cant seem to think it through

Magnolia-- THAT was the ship?? Wow! I bet you said a few prayers of gratitude! I am so sad for that couple from Minn. It does not looke good!

Jann-Dexter is still keeping me busy, but we havent started the next round of training yet. How is Reggie?

Joan- I hope you enjoy your trip!! I know you can use it!!

Hi, Y'all!

Beth, yes, that was the same ship. DH and I freaked out when we heard/saw the news. We have been praying for those poor people. While we were on that ship, FIL had to have wheel chair assistance, and we would wait forever after calling for the wheelchair. We were told there weren't enough of them to go around, so we would have to send for one every time. We were just thinking how it might have gone if we had been there this time. On the other hand, the doctors and nurses in the infirmary were really wonderful to fil, and they took really good care of him.

I did Classical Stretch this morning. It doesn't sound like much of a workout, but it's really the most intensive stretching I've ever done.

Joan, so sorry about the back. Hope you will be better very soon.

Jann, I just went through a period of struggling for motivation myself. What finally worked for me was the fact that I am 62 years old, and it's time to choose seriously between making a stand or letting myself go. I thought about all the things I want to do yet, and the fact that I want many more good years with my husband. You just need to find a reason that motivates you and you'll be fine.

Have a great day, everyone.

Hi Beth, Reggie is great. He just turned 11 months old!! He is so much fun. He really is spoiled though. I am hoping to get him back into training in the spring. He could use it. ;)

Magnolia I have this same argument with myself daily. Somthing has snapped inside me. It's like I have just given up, I really don't seem to care. The strangest thing is now, with a new grandbaby I should be so excited about staying healthy. I have no idea what's going on. I am working on that.

Well, today is my errand day. Out and about. I wish it was a bit warmer, 17 is cold!!

Have a great day ladies.

Magnolia I still can't wrap my mind around the fact you were on the same ship. At one time we had wanted to take a cruise that went from London, to Paris down the coast to Spain and ended in Italy. Never did it but I thought the same thing, f we had taken my mother we would have had no way to save her. Everyone is saying how horrible the rescue was but I keep thinking that other than the captain everyone must have been pretty amazing to get all but 30 off in two hours under those conditions.

YOU ARE ALL UNDER NOTICE- MONDAY I WILL START TO NAG YOU ABOUT DIET AND EXERCISE.

We have to keep our strength. I told you that the shingles had really weakened me. I thought my suitcase was at least 50lb. We weighed it and it was 26lb. I lifted it but thought it was really heavy. That should not be heavy. My mother can not get up by herself if she falls, that can't happen to us.

Maybe we think we have to go all in to get on a program. I don't have clients on Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. So at a minimum I should lift on those days. My goal on vacation is to get at least 1 veg. and 1 fruit in a day. At least I lost last time in New Orleans because I hate fish.

I'm shutting down computer now. Leaving at noon and will be back late Sunday.

Joan

Hi, Y'all!

Joan, thank you. I think it's a great idea to have someone to push me.

I did Basic Step today. This is my strategy, and so far, so good. I am going to involve myself in some sort of movement six days a week. If it is stretching for 25 minutes and that's all, then fine. If I can do some light cardio or cardio with lighter weights, that's even better. I am just doing workouts that are my absolute favorites, whether they are easy (and most of them are for now) or a little more challenging. I remember a tip on some of the older Firm workouts about "just committing to work out for 10 minutes, then seeing how you feel," and that's pretty much what I am doing. Last night I realized that I have gone from having to make myself do even the easiest workout to beginning to enjoy working out again and looking forward to the next one. I am just putting forward my plan as an option. If I can be supportive and helpful, that's what I want to do.

Have a great day, everyone.

Hi, Y'all!

I hope everyone is well.

I just finished The Firm Better Body & Buns, a workout that I used to think was relatively easy. Well, today it was anything but! I cannot believe how out of shape I am, so I guess I will be throwing this one and others like it into the mix now and then. Maybe every week or two. Anyway, this just makes me more determined to get back into shape.

Joan, hope you are enjoying New Orleans--I'm sure you're having a great time! Jann, Beth, Cathy and Jean--Hi, there!

It's supposed to snow late tonight. Thank goodness that tomorrow is Saturday!!

Have a great day, everyone!

Good evening Magnolia, Jann, Beth, Cathy and Jean,

Ok ladies, tomorrow I hope you all weigh in and take measurements. No you don't have to tell me what they are.

On another site I have been impressed by a lady and her exercise. Her group decided that each year they wanted to lose 2lb and keep it off. Lots of people thought she was nuts and they wanted to lose a lot more. She said fine but you have to lose 2lb and keep it off. Out of 10 women only 2 lost the 2lb and kept it off. Many lost a lot more pounds but didn't keep it off the year. She picked the 2lb because that is what she read most people gain every year. She figured that they would be to the good 4lb if they lost AND didn't gain.

We had a great time. The weather decided to be kind. No rain and in the 70's every day.

Since I have been pretty faithful to the walking, I decided the 3 month rotation was too much time to do an hour a day walking and another dvd. I will try to do the rotation with the lifting on the days I don't have clients and just the hour walking the other days.

See you tomorrow or I will come and get you.

Well, here is it Jan 23 and I checked in my weight this morning. It is going to be at least ten pounds worth.. So, I think I may go back on the killer diet while trying to exercise. The other thing I thought I might do is put a picture that I don't like in the kitchen so Im not tempted to graze.

Ive got my gear on to do cycle max. What I do now with that is put my own music on and turn down the volume. With cycling, once you know how to do it the directions are more distracting than helpful. But what is helpful is watching the pace and keeping up.

How is everyone else doing?

I was wondering....

if you ladies had room for one more 50+ in your group? I need some motivation from women my own age and who can share and understand the challenges that I'm dealing with-with myself  - at this period of my life.
Menopause is kicking my butt!

And if at all possible :) be some source of motivation for anyone else. I do have some good days and manage to take care of myself.

Anyway, just let me know.

Hi Kims! Welcome. Motivation is why we are here! We seem to kick each other in the butt when needed. :p

Menopause -- yup I know exactly what you are saying. Every bit of extra weight seems to hang right in the middle and seems to be impossible to lose.
Not sleeping a full night is also becoming a problem.

I had every intention, Joan, to work out today. I did walk Reggie for about 30 minutes. I kept moving most of the day. No real workout though.
Tomorrow --- I will hit my workout space and do a dvd, Yes, I will! I need a rotation.

Joan are you doing sts/lis?

I weighed in this morning. I am 5 pounds heavier (I truly thought it was more) than last year at this time. ugh ugh ugh!!

Hi Kim's!

Yes please join in! We've all dealt with the midlife struggles. Sometimes, things seem to work and then they don't. The holiday food was responsible for a record breaking ten pounds on me. But I'm going to get it off!

I did a double today. I did turbo barre and then cycle max. 1300 calories. I'm going to do two a days until this fat disappears!

Jann How are you feeling? Walking Reggie is good!

Joan, this was your idea so where are you?

magnolia. I hope you are well.

Good evening,

Kims welcome. We all need all the help we can get.

Jann I think I can only do the sts portion with an occasional lis. I am walking the hour but don't have a second hour.

Tax season has started. I got on the boards a couple times today but then the phone would ring or a client came to the door. I will probably be posting at night.

Weigh in -176lb. It took 3 days to gain what it took 2 weeks to lose. I was afraid it was even more. I think 176 is my highest ever and I don't want to think about getting fatter.

Here's the challenge. Record your weight somewhere you can find later. The Monday before Thanksgiving I will ask if you have lost 2lb. I will ask that same question Feb of next year. I will give you a little time after the holidays.:D

I seem to gain the weight back quickly when I go on an extreme diet. I either need to learn how not to gain back or just go on a less strict diet. That is what I am doing now. I have been reading and we may need to go on a 3 month diet then try 3 months of maintenance and then go back to dieting. Give your body a rest and get used to eating more calories and then go back. Of course if the dieting is going well I wouldn't do that.:p

The next thing I think we need to try is not go more than two weeks without lifting. The cardio helps me lose weight but the weights give me strength. You start to lose strength after two weeks of not lifting. I was really scared at how weak I had become with all the down time.

Shingles are all gone except a slight tingle/itch on the side of my nose where the nerves must have been damaged. My eyes still bother me but are not too bad at home. At the casino and all that smoke they felt terrible.

Since I will be posting more I will go back to a weekly thread on Mondays.

JOAN -- I worked out today!!!!! yay for me!!! :p:p:p

I decided to do a rotation I know works for me, no dread factor, short and effective. CLX!! Burn circuit 1 done!!

Jann I think you are right. We need to do something/anything and keep at it.

I was so busy yesterday and only got 1.9 miles in. I want 3-4 miles. I think the solution is just to make sure I get on treadmill in small increments throughout the day. Instead of looking for the best solution we need to find the one that will work for us.
