your exercise routine

I would like to get ideas of what is a typical "do-able" workout when your pregnant..I suspect I am, and I can already imagine my butt getting wider(thats what happened during my other pregancies) I would like to keep things in check this time around, but I dont want to hurt the baby or myself. What is off limits..I know kickboxing is..but what about weights..if I could just keep lifting, I'd be happy.. Are any of the new hardcore ones do-able?? I'll take all the advice and help I can..thanks

Hi. Congratulations on you pregnancy.

A "do-able" work out routine during pregnancy is so very much based on the individual.

I have been pretty much doing everything I used to do with the neccessary modifications. Aerobics (step, hi/low, even kick boxing until I hurt my hip and then was told it's not a good choice. OOPS! lol)and weight training.

I work out 6 days per week (usually) for about an hour per day and this is what I did prior to becoming pregnant....Basically, I have just lowered the intensity of all of my work outs (lighter weights & keeping all aerobics at low impact).

As you go through your pregnancy you will know what's right for you...what you can handle and what you can't. Just please make sure your doc ok's your exercising first. There shouldn't be a problem with it if you have a healthy pregnancy but you need to make sure to be safe.

HTH:)

You just have to listen to your body.

Have a great work out!

Yes, I was wondering the same thing, I just found out that I am pregnant, and I am not due for another 71/2 months or so. BUT (or should I say "butt") I know that my family history is to gain about 50 lbs. (my Grandmother gained 75 with my Mom!), and I don't want that to happen to me! 20-30 lbs. is PLENTY! Not to mention that I would like to have a healthier pregnancy by building my abs and back before the baby puts a serious strain on them. I have been walking everyday with the dogs for about 2 years, but I haven't been doing much with weight training. I just did ME Express this afternoon -- well, I did half the number of reps for each exercise and mostly using no weights except for some of the upper body exercises (2 lbs.). I am hoping it is safe to begin weights as long as I go SLOW.

I am only 7 weeks along with my first but so far have not worked out at all. I am so exhausted by the time I get home from work that I have not even been cooking dinner. I hope to get back to it soon.

I was just going to mention that you could ask you doctor what they recommend as well. My doctor said no to kickboxing. Partly because I am a klutz and she knows it but she had others reasons too, I just can not remember them now. She also suggested weights no heavier than 15 pounds, again for klutzy reasons and also because she said you do not want to risk hurting your back at all since you will be needing it in labor and delivery.

Good luck to you!
