Yoga X substitute

Hi Everyone,

I have agreed to lend my P90X program to a friend, so I will need a tape similar to the yoga X tape. I hate it, but I try to do it two or three times a month. Is there another yoga tape that is similar in terms of intensity? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks, Vickie

Hi Vickie!

You could try Baron Baptiste's Next Challenge. It's about 70 mins. (not quite as long as Yoga X), has some of the same balances and Baron is much better at yoga IMO anyway. I did this quite a few times in place of Yoga X and had a great workout.

Eoin Finn's Yoga for Happiness has several premixes. The full workout run 80-85 minutes. I actually like it better than Yoga X - it has some great hip opening exercises.

Thank you for asking this question. I am in my first week of P90X and so far I feel like I am getting a great workout each day and really challenging my muscles. However, yesterday was my day to do yogaX and I really really disliked it. I am not a fan of the repetitive transition between all the poses. I got totally frustrated after 20 minutes waiting for something to change but when I skipped through to see if he did something different I became even more frustrated to realize that it was an hour and a half of doing the same stupid runners pose, into chatarangu into upward dog then down dog with leg raise.
Right now I really dread even thinking about doing this workout next week especially when I didn't finish it the yesterday because I was too aggravated.
I think I will definitely have to find a replacement, an hour and a half is just too much especially when it is sooooo repetitive.

I love yoga and don't mind long sessions but have never cared for YogaX for the same reason: too repetitive. I do like the second half better, but still, I rarely reach for this one. I like Baron's Long and Lean and Kristin McGee's Power Yoga. Eoin's is on my list after hearing such good things about it.

I also have to agree about Power Yoga for Happiness. This is one of the best yoga DVDs I've bought. I've done three out of the five practices and they're all great. He has great hip openers, a variety of arm and leg balances and I really do feel happy when I'm done with it. The full practice is 80 minutes, there's a Daily Bliss Practice that's 40 minutes, Strong, Free and Happy is 56 minutes. There's a shorter one for 30 minutes and I forget what the last one is.

Marcy - the last is Magically Hips, my personal favorite - it's 55 minutes. I did this after a week of heavy lifting, and it felt so good it was almost sinful... :+

Christine - How could I forget that one. It might be the best of the whole lot. I think he might be favorite as far as hip openers. I don't think anyone does as many as Eoin does. I'm back to full splits again!

Hi all,

Another plug for Yoga for Happiness here! I bought it a few weeks ago based on people's recommendations here on the forum, and I love it! I've only done a few of the routines, but they are all fun, and Eion really does put a smile on your face! The hip openers are pure bliss!!!
